This is my vary first mod for any game. I have no experience in coding or much artistic skill but the lack of science stuff in the game has always bothered me. So i decided to make some stuff myself. I'm learning as i go so don't expect top quality stuff or a speedy release. It will be done when its done and even i don't know when that will be. Any help with coding or artwork will be much appreciated.
I'm trying to keep the Rimworld look so i am repurposing a lot of the vanilla textures. Yes that is a piece of Yayo under a modified telescope to make a microscope. And yes that is the VitalsMonitor i use for a computer. I like to think it works :)
This is inspired by the More Furniture mod! I would also like to thank sulusdacor (https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=26276.0) for his tutorial on how to make his mods work with other mods. This is what got me started.
What this mod will add
More furniture to get that sciencelab feeling and to boost research speed
More research to unlock more advanced pieces of furniture
New scientist outfit (spoonshortage kindly gave me permission to use some assets from FashionRIMsta (https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=24432.0))
Labrats. (https://youtu.be/GBkT19uH2RQ) Two genetically engineered rats that will help out with research. Just don't leave them alone at night (and yes i know they are actually mice ;) )
Research outpost. A small research building that can spawn on your map at the start of a new game
What it doesn't add
A monkey faction
Money in my pocket
What's done so far
Well not a whole lot. The only thing that is actually done and working ingame is the Science Computer (placeholder name)
Science Computer
Cost 100 of any materiel, 50 steel and 1 componen
Needs 100 power
Requires Microelectronics Basics research
Gives 10% research speed when placed near a research bench.

Here are some concepts i had in mind. Please note that these are more like doodles and not the final product!
LabRats

Microscope on a small table

To do list:
Stasis Pods (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/32/41/0e/32410e864cc0e453f5916cf99641afa9.jpg)
Different from the CryptosleepCasket this will act like a grave. Why waste a perfectly good body when you can study your enemy to come up with more ways to kill them
Planetary survey (http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/xcom/images/b/be/XCOM-EU_Mission_Control.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20121109184154)
Study your surroundings to get a better understanding of the planet
File cabinet and storage closets (probably from more furniture if i get permission)
Add new research
Research outpost
A small research building that can spawn on your map at the start of a new game
Come up with more ideas
Wait for tonight
Try and take over the world
My goal is to make a complete set of furniture that other mod makers can use for their mods. For example if you ad a new space gun it could need the Science Computer as a requirement to research.
If you have any suggestions or things you would like to see please let me know. Want to help out? Please let me know!
I really like the ideia of this mod. I think I can help you with some codes (I'm still learning to mod, but you can look at my new mod called '' the monkey faction '' and see what I already did).

Its funny that you replied coz a friend of mine suggested i added a monkey faction based on planet of the apes. And then you posted your mod yesterday. I was against the idea at first that's why its in my post lol. Maybe when i'm done with this we can work on that. Tho i was more thinking on the lines of Winston from Overwatch. This is a science mod after all.

Interesting mod. Will keep tabs on it.
Could be cool to animate the mice in the cage with a little bit assembly :D.
