Title: How to troubleshoot bad mods
Post by: Cifer on March 14, 2017, 08:58:30 PM
So I finally decided to try some mods with RimWorld, I went all in and enabled about a dozen. Then realized I could no longer load a game I had put a few hours into. I decided to take a few mods off, same thing happens. I take a few more off, play for a few hours then log out and in as a test and it loads fine. But then of course today I try loading the same game and I can't. I started a new game every time I removed some mods.

So it's getting very annoying that I keep restarting games because the save won't load, due to mods. But it seems impossible to tell what mod is causing the problem. The problem doesn't seem to occur until I'm a few hours in.

Is there any way to tell from the error text I get which mod is not working?  Because no mod names are listed in the text, at all. I really want to use some of these mods, but if I have to abandon one more game I'll probably rage quit/uninstall. (Then eventually reinstall)

Anyone have any advice?

Edit: The error text I get when I try to load changes every time, but now it does list a couple mod names. But I can't make sense of the text.

Sounds like you've learned the hard way not to change up your mods mid game. :(

I didn't change mods with an active game, when ever I got the error I'd change the mods and start a brand new game. Thinking one of them was bad and causing all of this.

With one exception, with this most recent error, I tried changing the mods AFTER I got the error but just received the "mods out of order" error. I put them right back in the order they where in for this game, and back to getting these error messages.

Core
HugsLib
WorkTab
hand me That brick
Medical Tab
Efficient Light
I Can Fix It
Stack Merger
Temperature Gauge
Tilled Soil
Expanded Prosthetics

and thanks for the help. I really appreciate it, I'd really like to use some of these mods.

Thanks for clarifying. This is less of a Support Issue and more of a Mod Bugs issue. Moving the thread there, and you should get better help then I can give you.

I understand, thanks.

To anyone trying to help, could it be the order they are saved in causing problems?

Ok first of all, I`m not a programmer nor a modder nor any sort of tech-savy person, so take what i`m about to say with a grain of salt. The first thing i noticed is that it says that you have a problem with the medical tab mod. First thing i would do is un-install that mod and start again to see what happens RE-INSTALLING the mod would be something OPTIONAL. BTW gan you click on the red text of the Debug log, i`m curious to see what it says since i don`t think i`ve ever encountered a prom with that mod (although i don`t use it anymore).

BTW, i don`t see anything bad in your mod order, i would personally put EPOE first but it is a good MOD order, i would recomend you to read a small guide about MOD order in RW, shoudn`t take you more than 5 minutes

The error mentions fluffy tabs. Can you post this error (as a log file if possible) on the thread for that mod. Fluffy will be able to tell you why that error is occuring and you may have found a mod conflict he needs to be aware of. Also make sure that mod is up to date before reporting incase hes already addressed it.

Big thanks to both of you, I've been refreshing this page frequently lol.

I did a couple more trials with new games, without Medical Tab, and was still getting the error. With only Efficient Light, Temp Gauge, Expanded Prosthetics, and Tilled Soil it works fine. But I really want that HugsLib/Work Tab.

I'll do what you guys recommended and update here this weekend.

Thanks again.

As a rule of thumb I would load WorkTab as far down the load order as possible. Otherwise make sure you have the latest version of HugsLib/WorkTab.
