Hey all, I've been working on this mod that adds new biomes to RimWorld. It's still a work in progress. I want to make it available for people who are interested in helping me test it and improve it.
You can download the mod files by following this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8m6fj9enom2u4cl/Biomes%2B.zip?dl=0
Biomes+ adds 5 new biomes to rimworld:
Poison Forest
A thick, poisonous forest. The stale air carries millions of fiberous spores. The terrain is soggy with scum and muck. Spiney thickets of poplars cover poison briar and plump fungi. Warning: Permanent toxic air, colonists who go outside will be slowly poisoned.

Savanna
A savanna is a rolling grassland scattered with shrubs and isolated trees, which can be found between a tropical rainforest and desert biome. Not enough rain falls on a savanna to support forests.

Wetland
A wetland is a land area that is saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, such that it takes on the characteristics of a distinct ecosystem.

Volcano
A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planet, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface. This biome contains hot lava, which heats up anything built around it.

Wasteland
A highly radioactive desert. Nuclear contamination from weapons testing, war or meltdowns has permanently altered the landscape.

I've been testing this mod myself and it runs fine with all my other mods without any errors. The only issue is compatibility with mods that add new wild plants and animals. I would appreciate any suggestions or comments if you have any.
Posting to follow awesomeness in progress.
Think I just found my new favourite biome mod, and holy crap, that poison forest looks beautiful and surreal. It looks like something out of Space Funeral, and I know what biome I'm gonna be playing on for a while.
The volcano biome does look a little jarring though colour wise, the bright red and deep black kind of clashes with the rest of the muted greens. I don't know if turning them grey would help at all lessen the contrast? Or perhaps turning the magma orange and turning the other terrains more of a maroon-brown.
That is my only gripe though, the rest looks gorgeous. I think regarding other mod animals, one would have to make compatibility patches for them to spawn there, though I can say for sure people will more than likely make them for their own creations in regards to this awesome mod.
I agree with you Serpy ..
the black of the volcano biome a bit brighter ( with a hint of purple like Minecrafts Obsidian ) and some gradients for the red similiar to the gradients of water.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I definitely agree with your points about the volcano biome. I'll see if I can incorporate your suggestions.
The wasteland biome must be looking real good with Tiberium Rim mod.
This looks awesome! Hopefully I'll have some time to try it out this week.
YES! Looks amaze balls will be testing this soon!
Some daylight photos of volcanic activity

These biomes are awesome! Keep it up!
I've been wanting a savanna biome for a while now, can't wait to try this out!
ok this is one of the best mods i have seen yet. ^_^ keep up the good work.
I want to use this I can't lie it sorta scares me though.
Oh my gosh the poison forest looks just as I imagined the forests of Fairy from the novel Yukikaze to look! Delightful.
Some brain food for your mod.
-Island biome
All water with some islands (Maybe add some sort of floor so you can cross from one island to the other over the water)
-Dead Marshes
Filty water that gives diseases when you cross is, only dead plants and you can't grow anything on this ground.
-Mystic lands
A magic-like forrest that holds some mythical creatures. (Also a place where you can find thrumbo's, because thumbo's fit the catagory mythical :P)
I've been playing a bit with these biomes for the past couple of days (though I didn't have time for Wasteland yet), so here's my feedback/opinions:
Poison Forest
- Looks absolutely gorgeous
- I like the idea of poisonous air and the challenge it provides
- As much as I like the poison, it does feel too similar to permanent fallout.
- Thinking of the point above, perhaps you (or another modder) can create animals endemic to the biome that could survive the poison.
Volcano
- Love the idea of areas near lava being naturally hotter. It creates some interesting base-building options
- I find the colors of the biome a bit jarring.
- Solidified magma, in particular, looks too black and artificial. It should somewhat lighter imo.
- Likewise, molten magma could also use some color adjustments towards a red-ish orange tone to look more natural
Savanna
- Probably my favorite of the biomes at this point.
- Gameplay feels balanced and the biome looks visually appealing.
Wetland
- Dealing with all the marshes is an interesting gameplay challenge if you're not using some bridges mod.
- Really like those mangrove trees.
- Not sure how feasible it is, but creating some impassable marsh areas (thinking of sinkholes and things like that) could be interesting gameplay-wise.
- I find the biome somewhat dull visually, but that's to be expected from a marshland, I guess. Perhaps you could add will-o-wisps or something to the marshes to make it more visually appealing?
Wasteland
- Haven't had time to really play here yet, so just some quick feedback based on the preview.
- The toxic waste pools feel kinda squareish on the preview. The lava pools on the volcano biome feel more natural on that sense.

This is an interesting observation, which I have to agree on just based on the screenshots.
It is funny though, because as far as I can see, all the new fluids are just recollored versions of the games own water.
It could help if the different depths were used and the colors of the new fluids gained some gradiants.
I was thinking for poison forest the land would mutate plants and turn them into a spawner of vicious mutant stuffs that are hard to kill and angry all the time :D
Really really looking for this mod to be released!
You are talking about the Tiberium Rim Mod ?
Not quite as tiberium rim doesn't outright affect your entire map plus most of the things happen are event based.
It should be permanent on a map like this :D
Attaching the mutation effects to map markers sounds reasonable.
Distance to toxic waste or poison lakes. Or Biome related plants and animals.
Similiar to Tiberium Trees and Monsters
First Ingame Feedback :
Toxic Waste : the toxic lakes are much to bright, in comparison to the dark and bleak surroundings.

Could you be more detailed about that, because I noticed, this kills about every modlist I have ..
I was also thinking about a possible solution for that .. "sub-biomes" .. if youre biomes were to inherit settings of similiar biomes ( jungle -> poison forest ) .. than the mods that add stuff to biomes would be integrated by the game itself .. ( theoretically )
I totally adore your mod and would really like to see it adapted for B18 :)
