Title: [A18] Could not resolve any root: logentry debugLabel: combat interaction
Post by: Yoshida Keiji on October 27, 2017, 08:05:52 PM
Red background when opened the panther stats but disappears when closed so whats covered cannot be read.

Breixo was a raider, haunted by the manhunter rage.

Moderator's edit (Calahan) - This was incorrectly posted in the A18 feedback thread (so moving it to bugs where it belongs).

Do you still have the save file where this is occurring? And either way can you please confirm which version of A18 this occurred with (18.1700 or 18.1704).

I'm playing 18.1704

This is my first save file sharing so I hope it works, and that it helps regardless the incident having had taken place earlier, or does share files like this only help if I pause the game and save right away only?

Thanks for the save file.

Unfortunately some bugs need to be caught (saved) in the act in order to identify them and fix them. And sometimes even caught before the act (so the save file needs to be from just before X is about to happen).

But that's not always the case and other bugs can be identified and fixed from the save file regardless of how much in-game time has passed. Or from just a description and/or reproduction steps, or just the error log message, or the log file. (by the way if you still have the log file from this playing session it wouldn't hurt to post it as an attachment. Although the log file resets itself each time you start the game so if you've exited RimWorld and restarted it since this playing session then the log file won't contain those log errors anymore).

It usually all depends on what the devs need in order to identify and reproduce the bug. So this is why users are asked to provide as much info and a log and save file when submitting bug reports, because it's never known what the devs might need to fix a particular bug until they try to reproduce it. So someone could provide a lengthy and detailed description of the bug and a log file, but all for nothing if it's a bug that absolutely requires a save file. And vice versa, where a save file is all that's needed and no detailed description is necessary.

Anyway, thanks again for the save, and hopefully it, along with the screenshot of the error is enough for the devs to fix this bug. Although if you do have the log file as well (just in case) then that would be extra insurance.

(btw, glad to see you've managed to solve the mystery of how to find the save files on your Mac :) I need to remember to add that info to the pinned thread when I get a chance Edit: Done, before I forget again).

I found the log file, but since the incident happened a day ago, I think it was reseted.

I appreciate your responses they are very informative, to the point that I wandered myself that maybe you could add a portion of your last reply to the actual pinned post as:

* The bug catch timing.
* Save the Log before computer shut down or game restart.
* Why pairing both save file and log.

You will probably remember this if you get asked about it again repeatedly. :D
