Title: Request
Post by: Jdalt40 on June 14, 2014, 10:44:09 PM
could anyone make a gate mod or something where if you built like a castle or something you can build a actual 4 by 1 gate? just asking :)

I can't mod a thing, but I can probably refine your requirements for those who can.

So, you're saying a 4x1 object, would you accept a smaller one, say 3x1? Does said gate transmit power? Also, does it need to be opened or closed like the doors? If not, does that mean anyone can go through it (so it's more of an opening than a gate)?

well yeah it can be any size but I am thinking instead of opening and closing it .
why don't make a order to close it or open it manually and your men have to go to the gate to close it?

Ah, so it's an interactive object that changes between open and close. When it's open, anyone can move through without any hindrance. When it's closed, it's might as well be a wall.

Ugh this is alot of work :P
Normal doors cant be resized atm, to make them resizable you would need to write new door class and new draw class for doors.
Another way is also to make a object that changes its <passibility> and texture change of movment of texture, this is kinda easier way i think. Possible with custom class that would facilitate <link>, so it would stuck with walls nicley.
And the third easiest way is to spam tynan for it :D

Alright, so doors can only be 1x1. You can perhaps just make two side by side to make it kinda like what you want.
Can an object be made to change its passibility with a command?
Or, yes, we can just spam Tynan for it :D

It can be made passible, but im not much of a coder so from what i tested with similar stuff it will affect every same object in the game. Something like normal lamps, if you change color in the code all normal lamps will change thier color glow not only one that you want.

Doors can be made any size but the texture is drawed to 1x1 size only, and the funcion that move textures to. Thats why you need custom door class and custom draw class i think :D

So apparently this request will require a whole new custom class and draw, as well as textures and lots of code.

...Good luck! :D

What about if I added Redpower from Minecraft's frames to BetterPower+. Would that cover this in a more roundabout way?

Not sure how it would work, could you be more specific ?

The Redpower frames he's referring to are a quite amazing mod for Minecraft.  They move a block, and any attached block, one square over.  Instead of making doors that are a single functional tile, you could make stone walls that change location.  I would LOVE to see such a thing.  Being able to make vault doors that slide into the walls would be one of the simpler things to produce.  If turrets, lights, or even furniture could be attached, combined with timer switches, you could make a base that reshapes itself every night, and reverts during the morning.

So they basicly work like pistons, without a piston itself ?
I guess he could do it like convoyer belts, only the item that they would carry would be a bigass pice of steel :D

Well, in terms on Minecraft, pistons just push/pull whatever is in front of them.  Frames would connect to each other frame (up to like 512 blocks, or whatever) and form a single large unit that would move at once.  I had built whole buildings which would descend into the ground at night while bringing up lamps from underground, covering the farm with a large roof, and close a big obsidian gate, and in the morning it would all reverse.

Basically, imagine if your base's preparation for battle wasn't merely to turn on the guns and get behind the sandbags, but to actually change its structural shape.

So, is that support for this idea then? Because if it is I'm gonna need to give it its own update time in BP+. Maybe move 4.2.0 back and make 4.2.0 the frames and motors update instead.

Mate if you can and have time compressing device and some clones then yehh :D

I would adore having frames as a standalone too.  BP+ is fun, but in a long-time colony the landscape ends up covered in geothermal vents, and when I used it last, nuclear power was impractical due to the massive amounts of nuclear waste that was flooding out of the hallway and had to be manually designated to haul every piece that'd spawn every few hours... then the announcement spam when it would all decay spaced apart every few hours...

For that matter I'd also say that conveyor belts should be available as a standalone option, because those aren't interconnected with power systems and could easily be used without any other BP+ component.

Well, I was thinking of changing BP+ to be a mod pack consisting of the original mod split up into smaller ones, but I don't know. If this is a discussion you'd like to have, by all means bring it over to my forum page, but I think we're going a bit off of the original topic here :P
