This isn't the dumbest thing I've ever heard, but it's the dumbest thing I can think of right now that I have a screenshot of:

I would have blurred out his name, but this was like 7 years ago and anyone that stupid deserves their name known.

I was wondering how strong a cheetah was, found out instead how dumb people are

Could a female cheetah bring down and kill a 13 year old girl (experts only)?

I'm not going to find the link to it, but there was a guy who mentioned that if a jaguar tried to bite him he would just grab its tongue and pull it out.

Girl from Craigslist: "What's the point of knowing all this? Why thermodynamics is important in mechanical engineering anyways? Isn't all you guys do is just tighten some bolts with a wrench?"

Me: *Stares in despair... Stands up... Throws money on the table to pay for the food... "Leaves like a lunatic running full speed...*

True story, though I may be the stupid one for trying to find a date on craigslist. Oh desperation, you suck. Luckily I got smarter and dated a girl from my college who had similar interests. So hopefully I cured that f*ckup xD

Anything related to Astrology. I want to leave the room whenever someone starts talking to me about their emotional situation being related to the fact that they were born in July.

Although, if you play it right, you might end up using the horoscope as a pickup line...

I had a snake in high school and my mother put it in my small feeding tank left it outside in the sun all day. When I got home from school I saw the tank out back with a cooked snake in it and was like WTF. When I inquired about said WTF I was met with "I thought snakes like sun". I hold up nuked snake with a "really" face and get "go put it in the shade and see if it comes back to life" as a reply. The moral of the story, I clearly beat the odds making it to adulthood.

Dumbest thing ever: First day of middle school and I have a couple friends from elementary. In history/geography (they call it social studies) we have to go to the front of the class and say something about ourselves and I said "Hey I'm B***l and I was born in Canada." Don't get me wrong this is one of the best Middle schools in the greater Houston area (Fort Settlement Middle School), but one of those random Dumb people said, "What state is that in?" Then me, My friend who is a Brit, another friend who is a Aussie, AND my teacher all face palm at the same time while half the class is still waiting for me to answer the question. At that moment me and my friends knew we should have taken Honors History.

Don't ever go to Reddit. If you ever ask "What ______ is this?" (replace underscores with anything from music to Australian rodents) you'll get 99 "Darude - Sandstorm" replies and the one person actually replying correctly will be so downvoted you will never see their comment anyway.

I don't think Ty meant don't design at all, just don't over-think it. The way I see it, the more you design or plan or the less you'll want to deviate from it and while sticking with your plans, sometimes things just don't work as you'd like but after all the work of designing it you'll be more and more hesitant to remove/replace/scrap a feature to go for something that works/fits with your project better.

Some design makes a good outline of course

Thats a parody site. It hardly counts as stupid if its meant as parody. It is pretty silly though.

My vote would be the time I heard about Ken Ham actually trying to "re build" the ark. That in itself is pretty silly, alright. But he tried to do it to proove the story was accurate, which graduates this from silly to outright the dumbest thing I ever heard. Not sure if they are still building it (on dry land, because it would never float without breaking, no less), or if anyone who is building it realizes that it is pretty big, but nowhere near big enough to fit everything into it that was supposed to do so.

So yeah, its borderline fractally stupid.

Eh. Whatever floats your boat, surely (barely a pun). To me, religion is okay as long as it keeps you from killing each other. In my language, the word "religion" is translated to essentially mean "no chaos". I may not be as religious as my parents want me to be, but by God if I can use my religion to keep chaos out of my life, I shall.

I guess in the end it's not about religion, but morals.

Religion has cause the most deaths than anything else in the world; from Inquisitions, to "Holy" wars, to excuses to make war and everything in between, religion is a sickness on the world.

That doesnt sound like you actually heard anything he said or read anything he wrote. But changing his name like an elementary schooler would - I guess you would have a hard time to understand it anyway.

I rather enjoy his work, and do find it food for thought - even if I dont agree with everything he says or writes. Which is kind of the point of his work and writing style.

I've read/heard his views and disagree with them due to how much of an 'arrogant atheist' he is, and I'm saying that as an atheist. Also despite my university education I still find it funny to refer to him as dick dorkins after that infamous tweet to the nytimes.

You have to be more specific. The honey thing, the down syndrome thing or the elevator gate thing? The man tweets a lot of stuff ;-)

I can imagine the down syndrome tweet is the most controversial one. However, its what I would do if I was in this situation. At least I think I would - you cant be sure about stuff like that, and there is always another human involved :-/

Probably not the dumbest thing I've ever heard, but this is definitely up there - several people have come onto these forums, where Tynan is active pretty much daily, and openly admitted to pirating the game. I mean really, you've just said "Oh, hey, I stole your game, hope you don't mind. I'll pay for it one day, I promise. You can trust me, I'm a complete stranger on the internet."

Really, how did you expect that to go down?

*Begins a slow clap*

To be fair, some have admitted to pirating and then purchasing it. But those that you describe do kind of make you laugh.

what i don't get, is how people would go through the hassle of registering to a forum just to tell tynan how much they like the game and intend to purchase it in the future..

that's like lol.. too much effort for a typical pirate.
most would just cut-and-run, instead contacting the developer to give them feedback.. haha..

It does seem like a terrible idea but it just goes to show how great the community is... even the thieves want to help make it better. ;)

yea.. apparently "that" thread got locked by Tynan 'coz it spun out of control. lol.

i think the weird twist was that the guy who started that anti-piracy thread, who was asking to add "a security system, so this game can't get pirated anymore!" was supposedly a pirate himself.

it was a shocking plot twist! (if true)  :o

Thread necromancy! Nice!

The stupidest thing that i've ever heard came from my confused friend, who thought Half Life was made by EA.

Well I think the dumbest thing I've noticed these past few months is people loves criticizing things negatively. They dont even suggest ideas that could help but they keep on uttering bad statements. Instead of levelling up, they just becoming dumber.

Not the dumbest ever, but yesterday a client on one of my jobsites recommended a place for lunch. After praising it, he finished with "Oh. Wait. Nevermind. You can't get there from here."
