BROTHER SNAY
Brother Snay saved my life today! I was chased by a pirate and he kindly offered me his protection. The bad guy was equipped with a revolver, but Br. Snay had only one knife, so we made an ambush in his living room and attacked the pirate from close distance. I jumped at his face while Br.Snay approached him from the back and killed him with his knife. "It is not good to kill, - he said, - but if someone comes with this intention, we must protect ourselves". While I was treating his wounds, he told me that I will not be able to stay here, because in their monastic order women live separately from men, and if I want to join them, I may go to Whiterock Convent half day journey from here. I offered him my help for at least a couple of days, because I feel sorry for him: he is all alone here with only one knife (well, and with a revolver now) and he can not even make a campfire for himself or build a trap (for some reason in this Rimworld building a campfire require more skills then building an electrical stove for example, or any other piece of furniture – I could never understand it myself), but he said I must leave in the morning. So, I decided to see how sisters live there and possibly stay with them? Monastic life always seemed mysterious to me... let's give it a try!

13th of Septober 5500, Spring (3 am)

WHITEROCK CONVENT
That morning I had to leave from Br.Snay, I got food poisoning and he let me stay for one more day. The following morning, I left around 7 am and it took me about four hours to get to Whiterock Convent, where I met Sister Estelle and Sister Albina. For some reason they were not too happy to see me. Sis.Estelle was kind but seemed cautious with me, while Sis.Albina did not like me at all and looked hostile. They gave me obedience at stonecutter's table and the rest of the day I was cutting granite blocks for Sis.Estelle, - she works on construction of our rooms and defenses. When she heard how desperate is the situation with Br.Snay (he convinced me even to take his only ranged weapon to have some protection on my way), Sis.Estelle decided to visit him tomorrow to help with some construction projects and return his revolver to him. Br.Snay is a very nice man: caring for sisters, he sent with me 10 packs of herbal medicine for them, and I noticed how they were touched. Despite his settlement is only four hours away, it is a different biome and things like plants and animals are quite different here and there.

SISTER ALBINA
I am usually very quiet and kind person, but this constantly depressive btch made me really angry today! All week I was trying to be nice to her despite all her looks and faces. And what do I get in return? She opens her dirty mouth at me! I just lost it and beat all the crap out of her... I agree it was a bit too much, but I do not regret! Instead I even feel better now. Sis.Estelle got very upset about our fight and as soon as Sis.Albina recover her health, she sends both of us to Br.Snay for confession. I hope she keeps her mouth shut until then, especially on our way there. Otherwise I may just kill her! Oh, how am I going to become a nun having such an evil heart?

THE ABBESS
When we came to Br. Snay, we found out that he rescued another woman named Klavdiya. He had a deep talk with me and Sis.Albina, teaching us to forgive each other. "There is so much violence and evil in this Rimworld, - he said, - and our mission is to bring at least a little love and good in here. Refrain from any unnecessary violence, especially between each other." Privately he told me later that I must be patient with Sis.Albina because she has kind of mental disease and suffers a lot from depression. Well, I said I'll try my best. He also told us that since now we will call Sis.Estelle our Mother and she will be an Abbess of Whiterock Convent. He sent her this letter with us:

"Dear Mother Estelle,
According to the rules of our Order when community reaches more than three people, an Abbot/Abbess is being appointed to it. I am sending to you a new comer Klaudia and I appoint you to be the first Abbess of Whiterock Sisterhood. Be a good Mother to all your spiritual daughters. Prepare monastic clothes for yourself and Sister Albina. Any new comer may become a novice after one season of testing and become a nun after one year at your discretion.
Asking for your holy prayers,
Brother Snay."

IRREPLACEABLE LOSS
We are all in tears!!! Today is the saddest day of my life! Brother Snay died, and I can't believe it! Klavdiya was there at the monastery taming animals when Br. Snay was attacked by a wild fox. She heard his screams from very far away, and when she got there, everything was finished. This crazy animal did not calm down even when he was downed, but it killed him and ate his head. What a horrible death! Klavdiya brought his holy body on the muffalo she tamed, and we buried him here at the Convent in a slate sarcophagus. We all feel like orphans: who is going to guide our souls now? No, no, it wasn't supposed to happen! I can't stop crying, I just can't... And even skies are crying (raining) together with us. Rest in peace our beloved Brother Snay!

RALPH
After the funeral Mother Estelle took me with her to the Monastery. She did not want to leave that place abundant after Br.Snay's death. Meanwhile Sister Albina and Klavdiya stayed there to take care of our Convent. When we arrived at the Monastery, we offered our protection to another lady named Candice chased by a native tribesman. We captured him and in about five days of sitting in our tiny prison, he decided to become a monk. I told Mother Estelle that most likely he will not be able to survive here all alone, especially with his brain injuries – three huge scars disfigured his head. Not being capable of hauling and slowed down in everything he seemed useless to me and I advised Mother to send him away. But she rebuked me very strictly saying that it is not appropriate for a novice to give advises to her Abbess, especially if you are not asked. Then she looked at me kindly and explained that it is our mission here in Rimworld to show mercy and accept everyone who desire to explore monasticism, regardless of his/her condition; and Br.Snay would do the same. "The reason we are here, - she said, - is to give everyone an opportunity to change their life from criminal to holy". This is how Ralph joined our Whiterock Order.

OUR NATURE
As soon as Ralph was accepted, I noticed his dirty looks towards Mother Estelle. It is unthinkable, but he was attempting to create a romance with our Abbess! Of course, he was rejected, but I got very angry at him because of that. Next day Mother Estelle and Candice got a flu and I was treating them. Being a doctor, I secretly use better medicine for Mother, and herbal medicine for everyone else. If Mother Estelle would know it, she would forbid me to do that, therefore I keep it secret. The thought that we may lose her as we lost Brother Shay terrifies me. While she was in the bed I opened her my confusion about Ralph's behavior. She said we shouldn't be surprised by such things. "Attraction between men and women is a part of our nature, - she said, - and it is stupid to expect a sudden change from a new comer, especially from such a wild tribesman as Ralph. Our monasticism supposed to raise us above our nature, but it takes a lot of time for one to change. That's why Brother Snay was so strict about living separately from us: as soon as we landed on this planet, he got his knife, ten packaged survival meals, five med packs and left. Everything was so simple those days. Now I must come up with a plan how to do two opposite things at the same time – to teach Ralph monastic life and to stay away from him. Oh, Brother Snay, why did you leave us so early?"

INCAPACITATED REFUGEE
Me and Mother Estelle just left our Convent for a rescue mission. No, no, no – I don't understand her. Our community is a disaster (from colonial point of view): two ladies who are incapable of violence, always depressive Sister Albina and a brain injured tribesman. What a company! It seems like Mother Estelle and I are the only normal people here. And what now? We received a help request and we leave our hopeless people for risky and dangerous journey for several days. No, I do not understand Mother, and I am still very far away from understanding monasticism. It seems to be opposite of survival. Instead of taking care of our own people, we are leaving them to rescue a stranger. And I am really scared, there are only two of us with a muffalo and three cats... what if we will get in ambush? I understand the concept of love as a sacrifice, but it just does not fit in my heart right now... Well, I am a novice. Let's calm down, dear Poppy, and show obedience to our Abbess. Oh, I pray we survive this trip!

FIGHT FOR MASON
When we arrived at the place we saw that Mason (this was the name of the guy we were trying to rescue) is bleeding to death in the middle of the fortified position. We could see two pirates there and their defenses included one mortar launcher and five turrets. I wanted to go back immediately, but this was not an option. We were running to a safe spot were turrets could not reach and were it was to close for mortar fire, but before we got there they were able to launch a few shots. And then slowly Mother Estelle started to shoot at the mortar and turrets with her long-range bolt action rifle. One of the pirates, seeing their mortar destroyed, attacked us, but we quickly were able to put him down. Unfortunately, there was no way we could approach Mason before we destroyed all the turrets, and while we were shooting at them, he died. Mother said from now on we are not doing to respond for such requests, because it is not just helping someone, it involves attacking other people. And we are not a military unit, we are just poor and peaceful nuns.

ASH AND OUR CATS
Some time ago out of the blue ten cats came to our Convent. We were playing with them and feeding them, until they delivered eight more kittens. After that Mother Estelle said that it is too much for us and started to think how we can get rid of them. Of course, we didn't want to kill them and finally Mother decided to sell them. She gave her blessing to our new sister Ash (who we rescued from a crash pod several days ago) to visit a friendly base near by and try to sell them. Her journey was going to last for about three days, but she came back the following day with 875 silver in her pockets. She told us that she met another caravan on her way and they gave her all their money (because the full price was 1663). They must be real cat people!.. We also have three Labradors now, two caws, two muffalos and five turkeys. Some of the animals are at the Monastery, where Sister Albina, being an older nun, is helping Ralpf to keep up the Monastery. Something weird is happening in this Rimworld with men: they seem to be a great rarity here!

EVIL SPIRITS
I can not find another reasonable explanation to what just have happened except that we are being attacked by evil spirits. Why foxes? Do they fit to be their vessels the best? First Brother Snay was killed by a fox and today another fox almost killed Mother Estelle! It can not be just coincidence. They are attacking the head of our community for the second time, the best once. Why they did not attack me? Or Ash? No, they are fighting against our spiritual leaders! We were lucky that this happened very close to the Convent while Mother Estelle was digging compact machinery. We came as quickly as we could and killed the mad fox. Mother was downed, and I carried her to her cell. When I was giving her treatment, I counted fourteen (!) wounds. If we would come just a little later... no I can't even think about this! Tomorrow I will kill all the foxes in the area!

LIFE AT THE MONASTERY
Today Nun Albina returned from the Monastery to take a part in our First Annual Meeting tomorrow (yes, tomorrow will be exactly one year since she, Mother Estelle and Brother Snay crashed on this planet and founded Whiterock Monastic Order). Sister Albina spent all winter at the Monastery managing life over there by the blessing of Abbess Estelle. She brought a female prisoner with her and told us many interesting stories. This winter was not easy for them. They had to survive extremely low temperatures, fight forest fires and stand against pirate raids. One new sister named Ayana was accepted in the community, but she left her with Ralph, who is still the only man over there and needs some help, mainly with hauling. It seems like this situation with Ralph will be discussed tomorrow the most, because it breaks the rule of the Order about men and women living separately. Let's see what Abbess Estelle and Nun Albina will decide: only nuns will be able to vote on the Meeting. Novices can only participate in discussion. And if two of them will disagree in something, the final decision will be made by the Abbess. I am very excited about how it will go!

PETER
Early morning, when everyone was getting ready for our First Annual Mitting, we received a help request from a man, named Peter. He was chased by pirates and as usually we offered him our help. It was five of them well equipped with auto pistols, one club and one incendiary launcher. We never were attacked by so many raiders before and we got a little scared. But our defenses protected us very well. Two of them died from our granite deadfall traps and the third one was shredded by Ash's frag grenade inside our yard. The other two decided to retreat. All this took about three hours and I was thinking that the Meeting will be rescheduled for tomorrow, but Mother Estelle asked us to clean up and be ready for Meeting this afternoon. No one from us did not get even a single scratch!

FIRST ANNUAL MEETING
Around 14:00 we all gathered in our dining room and the Meeting was called to order. The first thing we discussed was the situation with the Monastery. Mother Estelle said that before this morning raid she was going to temporarily close the Monastery and use it as a Convent Farm, but the providence sent us Peter just a few hours ago. And everyone was agreeing that it was like a miracle. Peter is going to join Ralph, but until they have their own Abbot, the Monastery will stay under supervision of Abbess Estelle. The second business was about the wild animals danger in the area. "You all know, - Mother Estelle said, – that our beloved Brother Snay was killed by a wild fox, and I almost died from it. A cougar killed our poor cow a few days ago. Therefore, I ask everyone to stay behind the walls and do not leave the Convent without my blessing. But even then, make sure you are not doing your work outside alone, but be accompanied by another sister or at least a Labrador!" We discussed a few more minor things and the Meeting was adjourned at 16:00.

TOXIC FALLOUT AND AARON
Chemical fires somewhere near by covered our Convent with toxic fallout two days ago. We moved all our animals indoors and Mother Estelle strictly forbade us to go outside. It was not much to do and we got a little bored until out of this poison sowed up a man named Aaron. He was very funny and with his spicy stories from his past aristocratic life he brought some entertainment in our rather dull life here. This made Mother Estelle a little nervous. Of course she could not send him to the Monastery right away because of this fallout. And she decided to make everyone busy as soon as possible. We all started to build a special guest room for men with its own separate access to food storage. This way any men visiting the Convent can stay isolated and avoid any contact with nuns. And we all started to work on this project. I could not stop smiling from his funny stories, but there was nothing funny in his desire to leave all his past life and dedicate himself for monastic life of the Order. I just could hardly believe he will be able to make such a change. It seemed like those soft hands have never done any useful work. Pure Brother Ralph! I afraid he will get another sponger in his brotherhood.

I AM A NUN!
Today is the happiest day in my life! After one year of testing I became the first nun who was tonsured in this Rimworld! Mother Estelle dressed me up in black monastic clothes and explained me that they are black, because it is the color of mourning for the old Poppy, who spiritually died today. Now the new Poppy was born, and she will not be full of evil like the old one, but she will be good, and she will be bringing the light of love in this spiritually dark and cruel Rimworld. Aaron, who was permitted to stay for my tonsure, made a present for me: a small granite sculpture. It was so ugly that everyone was trying to escape from sharing their opinion on it with him. But you know what? I liked it! He sincerely wanted to make me a present for such an important occasion and I appreciate it. Everything seems me so beautiful now, when my heart is full of joy! Even this awful sculpture with the idea of confinement delivers me a beautiful message of resigning my own will today in favor of holy obedience.

HEAT WAVE
On the 3rd of Decembray two mad boomalopes attacked the Convent. One of them was shut and exploded in the middle of our garden starting big fire. As we were fighting it, the solar flare has begun, and all this was not enough – almost at the same time an unusual heat wave covered us. We all got in panic. There was no wood to make passive coolers and Mother Estelle immediately contacted the Monastery asking to bring some wood. Peter loaded their new tamed muffalo with 260 units of wood and in the middle of the night he was already in the Convent. But in the morning the sun flare ended. Peter looked very tired. He complained about brothers, especially about Aaron, who doesn't want to do any work except making his useless sculptures and trying to tame animals. As he was trying to tame a muffelo yesturday, he was attached by a wild fox and lost his right pinky. What? We almost jumped in the air with Mother: a wild fox? Again??? And we told him how our beloved Brother Snay was killed by a fox, and how Mother Estelle almost died from it. "I didn't know that", - Peter said. He seemed to be puzzled. Mother Estelle wanted to see everything in the Monastery with her own eyes. She took me, Novice Klavdiya and two our moffalos (together with their lovely newborn baby) and we left for a Monastery visit. I was so glad to escape this terrible heat and to see how the brotherhood is doing, of course!

SIX BEERS
At the Monastery we helped brothers to build three small guest rooms for ourselves and one more cell for Aaron. He did not change at all and looked like having good time, always joking and smiling, while other two brothers where floating around like small dark clouds overloaded with work. Even Brother Ralph with his brain injury was working hard, but not Aaron; Aaron was taking nice walks in the woods or was banging at his sculptures in the studio and it seemed like he did not notice any askance glances in his direction. To understand how valuable his artwork is, it was enough to see him selling it to a pirate trader for the money enough to by exactly six bottles of beer. But what I must admit - he is not greedy: he immediately shared his beer with us and everyone (except me, because I do not drink at all) got a little drunk. Aaron was laughing louder then everyone, showing his right hand with missing pinky and colorfully explaining how artfully he killed that wild fox...

MEMORIAL DAY
At her memorial speech Mother Estelle said: "One year ago at this very day we lost our beloved Brother Snay, who was killed by a wild fox at the Monastery. We did not expect to land on this planet, our mission was to start a monastic Order in Glitterworld. But Providence changed our plans. When three of us crushed down here, it was Brother Snay, who accepted it as a mysterious sign of our destiny. Instead of Glitterworld we founded this Whiterock Order here in the spiritual darkness of Rimworld. And look at us! We have eleven monastics in our community and two nuns were already tonsured here – Poppy and Klavdiya. And this is only beginning! Let us carry our mission of Light here always with the memory of our founder Brother Snay. He will always be for us an example of humility and dedication to the rules of the Order. May his memory be eternal!"

BAD THOUGHTS
I am terrible. Mother Estelle must be a holy person and I have bad thoughts about her. She sent me and Sister Ash to the Monastery to dig some compacted machinery for the Convent, because we depleted all our reserves. As soon as we came, Brother Ralph got very sick with plaque. I told Mother through Comms Console about it, and she ran here all night carrying two packs of Glitterworld Medicine for him. Ok, I can understand many things, but not this one. By the time she got here this medicine was not needed (Ralph's immune system was doing well) but what if we had to use it? Some time ago I convinced her to get those three packs for herself. She is our Mother. If something happens with her, what we all going to do? This Glitterworld Medicine was reserved for something important. And now what? How a novice can be more important then the Abbess? I cannot understand it. Or he can? Is this how the true love she is talking about, looks like, - when you sacrifice yourself for your brother? But this "love" is not reasonable... It looks really stupid. I am all confused now, and I am not sure if I will ever be able to do something like that.

POOR AARON
Poor Aaron does not look happy anymore. Loosing his right pinky made him a hero, but loosing his nose crushed him to the ground. How did it happen? He was hunting beavers when two of them attacked him. He was very lucky that three of us were there (it happened at the same day when Mother Estelle came with Glitterworld medicine), and we rescued him immediately. Since then he does not smile that much anymore, and everyone is trying to avoid looking at his face: without a nose it looks scary. Maybe his eyes are shining like before with sarcastic grin, but somehow it is impossible to notice now on his disfigured face. Well... every cloud has a silver lining: maybe now he can really forget this deceptive world with its meaningless pleasures to become a true monk!

HEALER MECH SERRUM FOR BROTHER RALPH
Today we got an offer to obtain a Healer Mech Serrum in exchange of 54 units of Gold. Mother decided to get it for Brother Ralph's brain injury. "He is going to become an Abbot in five days, - she said to me secretly, - and he will need his health back for this important obedience". I am going to be a head of the caravan and Sister Larussa and Brother Aaron (as our best shooters) are going to join me. We also are going to take Ares, our male muffalo and a few Labrador pets for sale. We are leaving immediately to pick up Larussa at the Convent and then we will be heading NW to Hacker's Municipalyty of Andaslor Federation. This trip all together should take about seven days. I am very excited! We have never traveled that far before...

ALERT!
After five hours of our traveling I got an emergency message from Mother Estelle: The Convent is being attacked by a strong group of pirates.  It was not appropriate time for us, the best shooters, to leave! Poor sisters are shaking in horror. Two of them are not capable of violence, Mother Estelle is equipped with a sniper rifle (which she just got and did not practice a single shot with it), Nun Albina has poor (35%) autopistole, Sister Ash has frag grenades, Ayana has a pump shotgun, and this 17 years old Emmy (to whom Mother unfortunately offered her protection) is running to the Convent literally naked with five beers in her teenage hands. How did she end up in this situation? Well, we will ask her later, if we survive. We split our caravan immediately and left puzzled Aaron with Ares and poppies, starting our run to the Convent, because those four sisters will not be able to stand against seven well equipped pirates with almost no defenses, - oh why we did not spend some time for making more traps and at least a couple turrets? Mother also called to the monastery, and Brothers Ralph and Peter are running for help as well. My heart is going to jump out from my chest as I am flying through this chilly night towards the Convent!

THE HEROES
After about two hours we got a message from Mother Estelle about sister's victory over the raiders. One of the pirates had dementia and got lost far away from the Convent. Mother's sniper shot of course did not work in the dark, but Ayana's pomp shotgun made some damage. Two of them where killed by the traps, and other four got under crossfire at our yard. Ash's frag grenades finished the deal. Everyone is ok, except Ayana who got shot in her leg, but she is going to be fine. All pirates are dead. But the young girl Ammy that joined the Convent in such an extravagant way seems to have alcohol problems and will need a decision being made about it. Anyway, we returned to Aaron and continued our journey.

AMMY'S STORY
Our trip went very well. We got a Healer Mech Serrum for Brother Ralph and sold all the poppies. But as soon as we were back I wanted to meet Ammy and hear her story. This is what she told me. She grew up as an apprentice in the foundries of an industrial world. Her master had a weakness for alcohol and taught her not only metalworking, but also to drink beer, so that at her fifteen Ammy already got an addiction. In the back of her mind she understood that this environment will kill her, and one day she secretly snuck into a cargo ship leaving with a load of metal parts to Glitterworld. After 380 years in cryptosleep, the crew found her, and the captain dropped her off in a transport pod on our planet. Suffering from alcohol withdrawal she was ready for desperate actions. Behold, she is sneaking in a pirate's camp in the middle of the night and stealing a case of beer. Soon the pirates realize it and start chasing her. In a few hours they found her drunk in the ruins at Small Sardine Peaks not far from our Convent. Of course, those monsters wanted to abuse poor girl and already ripped off her clothes, but they did not expect she had such strong muscles and such a good reaction (even under alcohol). She pushed away one of them, punched in the stomach another one, and slipping between them, Ammy entered the night absolutely naked with only five bottles of beer in her hands (which she did not want to leave behind). This is how she showed up that night at the Convent being chased by the pirates. After she told this heartbreaking story to Mother Estelle and expressed the desire to change her life, Mother accepted her with only one condition: she is going to quit drinking. And Ammy promised to quit.

ABBOT RALPH
At the ceremony of monastic tonsure Ralph was made also an Abbot of Whiterock Monastery. It took almost two years before the Monastery became a fully functional monastic community with its own Abbot. He used the Healer Mech Serrum for healing his biggest scar and it performed a miracle. He still has two minor scars, but he says he feels much better. Aaron got a war vail for himself when we were in Hacker's Municipality, and he wears it all the time now, covering his missing nose. I must admit, it helps a lot. They are leaving right now for the Monastery and all sisters are trying to get his blessing for it is known that the blessing of a newly appointed Abbot has a special grace. We are all going to pray for him and for all the brotherhood!

Nun Candice is like an angel – she has good relationships with everyone! I have no idea how she can do that; I always get irritated when I see Nun Albina for example (did not like her from our first day) or Ammy (she is a nice girl, but her addiction...) I can't do anything with myself, and I am amazed observing how Sister Candice is kind and patient with everyone. Yes, she is a true nun, not like me, a sinner. She is the only one in our community who was born in Glitterworld and she knows it not by hearsay. She traveled a lot as a reporter and she know how to deal with people: her social skills are very high. That's why Mother Estelle gave her an obedience to be a warden and to communicate with traders. So, when we got this peace talk opportunity form the Orange Mesa Tribe, it was her who Mother Estelle choose to go. Not being capable of any violence though, Sister Candice needed protection. Therefore, Mother sent me and Novice Ayana to accompany her. Our best shooter Larussa after the last raid experience is staying to protect the Convent. She is getting used to her new superior sniper rifle, hunting everything that moves around the Convent. And we are going to leave today...

PRISONERS POLICY
Our peace talks with Orange Mesa Tribe went very well. But when we returned to the Convent, we learned that right after our peace talk a group of Orange Mesa tribespeople attacked the sisters, probably not knowing about improvements in our relationship (those wild people do not have any comm devices anyway on their hands). Four of them were captured. I got really scared about some of them: one shaman woman is pyromaniac, another young girl with chemical fascination and the third man is a gay! I ran to Mother Estelle and sheared with her all my fears, begging her not to recruit them, because they may be a thread to our community. But she kindly reminded me about our mission: to accept everyone who will express this desire to join. "Those are all lost souls in need of salvation, - she said, - and we do not have any right to perform a selection. First, we will heal their wounds and then, while they will be recovering, we will keep offering them to join our path of salvation for one season. If during this time they reject it, they will be free to go. But if they will decide to stay, we will accept everyone regardless of their personality. And then we will look for solutions." I returned to my cell with a bad feeling about this new Prisoners Policy. It seemed to me like very soon our peaceful life here will come to the end.

FORMIDABLE ABBOT
This is what happened. Mother Estelle sent us with Nun Ash and Novice Ayana to the Monastery to get some marble blocks and turkey leather for monastic clothes (because it was time for a few tonsures, but we did not have any dark fabrics). And while we were there, Sister Ash comes to me in tears complaining about molestation of Brother Aaron. What this nose less freak is thinking about himself? I went to Abbot Ralph and told him everything. He got very angry. Usually he is very quiet, and I have never thought he might be so furious. He went to Brother Aaron and wanted to throw him away from the Monastery for such inappropriate behavior. But Brother Aaron fell down to his knees and was begging for forgiveness. Finally, he got punished by the Abbot and was locked in his cell to repent for three days without any food. And all this instead of monastic tonsure he was going to receive tomorrow at the Convent (because it will be exactly one year since he joined our community). We've all been terrified by such turn of events, and I was not glad already that I told him everything. Poor Brother Aaron; even Sister Ash was shocked by such cruel punishment and she wanted to ask Abbot for mercy. But I persuaded her leave it as is, to avoid something worth, because Abbot Ralph seemed me very unpredictable now. We had to leave for our Second Annual Meeting at the Convent and Abbot Ralph was also invited to attend. Before we left he instructed Brother Peter strictly observe the punishment and let Brother Aaron out only in case of a raid. And we went to the Convent...

SECOND ANNUAL MEETING
On the Second Annual Meeting Mother Estelle made her report about past year and thanked all the sisters for their hard work. She announced the List of obedience for the next year. During this coming third year we are planning to finish our defenses and help to the Monastery with their construction projects. Abbot Ralph was sitting at the meeting dark as a cloud. After the meeting Mother Estelle wanted to hear what happened with Brother Ralph and we told her everything. She suggested to Abbot Ralph to deal a bit easier with brothers: "There are only three of you there, - she said. – What if he would leave?" "Good riddance! – Abbot replied. – I will not tolerate inappropriate behavior! And he will not become a monk for another year. Let's see if he learned the lesson." This is how we are entering the third year of our monastic life on this planet. For today we have eleven sisters at the Convent and three brothers at the Monastery. Ammy thou was arrested: at her 82% withdrawal from alcohol addiction, she wanted to get on ambrosia, and Mother locked her up. This is why I hate chemical interest in people!

CRAZY OLD MAN
Soon after our Annual Meeting Mother Estelle sent me as a part of mining team to dig some compacted machinery not far from the Convent. At the very beginning of our trip a naked old man sows up from behind the bushes with a wooden club and offer us to give him all our belongings (including our six muffalos!) and then he says he will let us go. We lowered our eyes of course not to look at his naked body and I said: "Hey, gaffer, please, go your way. Don't think that we are just innocent ladies, we got our guns, but we don't want to hurt you." Hurt me?" – he laughed like crazy and rushed out at us. I tried to aim for the legs and put some bullets in him from my revolver. But Blue's single shot from her pump shotgun killed that crazy man. We dug a grave and buried him. Now I feel like I need to go to confession.

BACK TO THE CONVENT
Our mining trip went well, but boring. We were sleeping in the ruins right on the floor and worked all day. In about a week we returned with 105 plasteel, 104 jade, 60 components and 194 steel. While we were unloading muffalos, sisters told us all the news. The main one was about the raid they had, when one of the raiders on his way to the Convent opened a large ancient room with two cryptosleep caskets and two hives. What prompted him to dig at that random spot, remains unknown. The raid was stopped successfully, and two raiders were captured. One of them died a few days later from infection and another one is imprisoned. The other two prisoners from that tribal group I was bothered the most, were released after one season – they did not want to stay. From four of them only two joined the Convent: Blue and Lemur. Blue is ok, she was a part of our mining team and I got to know her a little better; but I still think that a pyromaniac is a thread and may put our community in danger any moment. And Lemur is a separate story, I will write about her some other time. "And you know what Ammy did after the fight was finished? – Larussa whispered in my ear. – She rushed to the beer which one of the raiders dropped! And this is when she almost overcame her addiction! It is good that Mother Estelle was there and forbade her!" "You can never trust those addicted", - I replied trough yawning. I was so tired that I felt like sleeping for three days in a row after this mining trip! I hope next time Mother will send someone else, not me, please...

INSOMNIA
Despite I thought I am tired, when I got to my cell I couldn't sleep. The ugly face of Sister Lemur was stuck in front of my eyes like a freeze frame from a horror movie. Sometimes I doubt we can ever overcome our human nature: in my mind I understand that this 17 years old tribal girl needs some compassion, but when I investigate my heart I can't find there anything, but aversion. And it seems like every single sister has the same feelings: everyone hates her. On top of everything this poor child lost her right leg during their attack on the Convent. What a cruel fate! And besides being staggeringly ugly and limping on her new peg leg (kindly installed by Sister Klavdiya), she has a chemical fascination, which means we must keep an eye on her all the time. There are no drugs allowed at the Convent, but it seems like this girl will look any possible way to forget the reality, because obviously it is not pleasing her at all.

MORNING COMMOTION
Early morning, I was woken up by Sister Ash saying that Mother Estelle is calling everyone for emergency meeting. When everyone came to our dinning room, Mother said: "Sister Larussa just told me that the hives in recently opened cryptosleep room North of the Convent are spreading and there are much more insects now then it was in the first place." "We have to react immediately, - Sister Larussa said. – I know those hives. If we will not take care about them now, they will go out of control." "Why don't we bombard them with mortar fire?" – asked Sister Ammy (she looked very fresh by the way after she finally get rid of her alcohol addiction). "No, - Mother replied. – We are not going to bombard them, because we will destroy cryptosleep caskets and there may be people inside." Finally, everyone agreed to build a closing wall with doors for shooters and dig a tunnel to the room from the South. After a short breakfast we all went to work on that wall.

FIGHT WITH BUGS
Nothing went according to our plan. When Sister Blue opened the tunnel to the room it was already about 16:00. Her first bottle of Molotov went in the wrong direction, and if she would run way after that first try, she would be fine. But she decided to throw another bottle. Now she got one of the hives on fire, but the bugs noticed her, and she did not have enough time to escape. When we saw her exiting the tunnel, she was already bleeding and a Spelopede with several Megascarabs were chasing her. Everyone started shooting and poor Blue was downed by the friendly fire. The rest of the bugs went to different directions and it took us about seven hours to kill almost all of them. By midnight everyone was so exhausted that Mother blessed everyone to take some rest. There was at least one Megascarabs sleeping somewhere outside of Convent walls and almost all our turrets were destroyed.

LOST HAND
It took us two days to clean up all the mess after those disgusting bugs – I just hate them, especially their slimy filth. Despite Sister Klavdiya did everything she could, Blue lost her right hand. In her medical record she just wrote: shot off. And with her prosthofobic beliefs about human body she will avoid getting a replacement. Why would you believe in something like that? If helpful thing, like a prosthetic arm can improve your life, why reject it? But Blue looks happy with her single arm now (which is missing its index finger as well), and as soon as she felt a little better (practically in two days!), she went mining compacted steel. "Well, - Mother Estell said seeing her off, - We will see how obedient she is when we find a prosthetic arm for her. Monasticism is not about what you like or dislike. It is about putting your own will away!"

SPACE SOLDIERS
The same day in afternoon Mother Estelle blessed us to open two cryptosleep caskets. We came to the ancient hall and Sister Albina opened them. A bunch of megascarabs and two pale space soldiers fell out of the caskets. The soldiers were bleeding and after thorough vomiting they slowly started heading North. First, we got very scared and wanted to run away, but those megascarabs seemed peaceful. We decided to leave them for now and Mother said that we should probably arrest those two soldiers, because apparently they do not understand what they are doing. "If we leave them to go, - she said, – they will bleed out to death." This is how we got two more "prisoners".

BROTHER PETER
It is not good to overhear, but sometimes I can't help myself. I did not do it on purpose, I was just going to pray in my cell when I heard their voices through the vent installed between my cell and the cell of Mother Estelle. She was talking with Brother Peter. He brought some skins to the Convent and was going to pick up new monastic clothes, that Sister Ammy did for him. Abbot Ralph was supposed to tonsure him about a month ago, but his clothes were finished only yesterday. So, I heard how Brother Peter was complaining to Mother Estelle at his life in the Monastery. He said he was very tired from doing all the hard work there, while other brothers just enjoying their easy life. They converted a raider a few days ago, who, before joining The Poison Assassins pirate faction, used to have a famous high-class restaurant and who is a cooking wizard. But he also does not do any dumb labor! "None of them is doing any hauling, - Brother Peter was almost crying, - I am working for all of them there like a damn donkey!" Mother Estelle was trying to calm him down, saying that there could be nothing more then serving our brothers and sisters; this is true love and it is not easy. Tomorrow Abbot will make him a monk, and being a monk means dying for yourself and living for others. And many more words she said to him, admonishing him to have patience. I am so bed, my curiosity will destroy my spiritual life one day: at least I will not share it with anyone. I will keep it secret!

UNDERCOVER AGENT
The prayers of Brother Peter were heard! Next day one of the space soldiers Troy Weiss joined the Order (yes, that was surprisingly fast!). Peter did not care that he was incapable of violence, he was very happy they are getting another brother, who can haul. But I got puzzled. How a space soldier can be incapable of violence? What kind of soldier is he? And a thought came to me, that he may be not a soldier at all, but some kind of secret agent undercover. However, an agent also needs to know how to use a gun... Maybe he was a soldier who sits at the computer and develops a code which will help to launch nuclear missiles? I guess that might be considered as non-violent participation in a mass murder... Anyway, it is not my business, and if he sincerely decided to change his life for good, who cares about his past? Repentance is offered for everyone.

MIDNIGHT RAID
Around midnight we got eleven Poison Assassin raiders approaching from the South. They were all in armor and well equipped (including frag grenades and Molotov). They did not go to the East or West side of the Convent, where we have our best defenses, but they started attacking our South wall with grenades, planning to get inside in some unexpected spot. We all prepared for defense and this was the first time we were going to use our two mortars. As pirates were destroying one wall after another we covered them with mortar fire as good as we could: some of them got wounded and two were dead before they entered our trap corridor. At the end of the corridor Mother Estelle met them with a few shots from her bolt action rifle, but soon she got a bullet in her shoulder and had to retreat. Our traps killed another two raiders. And after two more were shot, they started to flee. We captured three of them and Mother (despite some of us got minor wounds) was very happy to see everyone alive.

HELP REQUEST
We haven't had enough time to clean up the mess after the midnight raid, and Mother already sends us to the Monastery. An Ancient Ship Part just felt from the sky and started forest fire. Those parts may be very dangerous; they can poison the area or drive everyone crazy with their psychic drone. Therefore, Mother decided to send a small fireteam to help our brethren at the Monastery. We are getting two remaining EMP shells for traps and leaving immediately. There will be me, Sister Larussa, Sister Ammy and new Brother Jakob. Sometimes it seems to me that our world isn't real. We used to live so peacefully and now one disaster after another, as if we are inside of some computer game and the player just raised the difficulty level. But I better throw those thoughts out of my head, because they may lead to a mental disease. Let us concentrate on our mission!

OVERREACTION
I must admit we overreacted to this threat. A lot of preparation was put in building protective walls and traps, which were not used. But I think it is better to overreact then to overlook. There were only two Scythers, which came out of the Ship Part before we were properly prepared – installing IED trap right next to the Ship Part made them come out. The Scythers and their Ship Part were destroyed very quickly by our overwhelming force, and Abbot Ralph asked us to stay for one more day to help with disassembling all of those defensive constructions. First time I am wearing a power helmet, it feels pretty heavy and does not look monastic at all. It is very late, and I better go to bed. It feels good to be alive!

"FUNNY" NEWS
Well the news was not that funny, it is me, a bad girl, who is laughing at something worth crying over. When we returned to the Convent my friend Ash, as usually, told me all the biggest news. The first one was about a fight between Sister Albina and ugly Lemur. Those two I hate the most and therefore it did amuse me, although I understand it is not good to hate anyone and it is not good to laugh at something like that. Especially for a nun. But I just can't help myself: I hated Sister Albina from my first day at the Convent (I even beat her up a little then); and pure Lemur – everyone hates her. The funniest thing is that both are chemically obsessed... they supposed to be the best friends! And the second news was a prison break. Two male Assassins free up themselves late night and absolutely naked showed up in our yard. Sisters reacted immediately, and ugly Lemur put a bullet in one of them, but Mother Estelle stopped everyone. "Let them go, - she said, - If they are running, it is obvious they do not want to join. Just let them go." And they disappeared in the night. Now we have only one young girl in our prison and Sister Candice is opening to her all the beautiful sides of our monastic life.

THE FLU
When I get sick, I become like a crybaby. Only sad thoughts come to my mind. Because of the flu I was not able to attend the memorial ceremony for Brother Snay: today is two years since his holy head was eaten by that demonic fox. When I think about it, I am starting to weep. Abbot Ralph wanted to come, but he and a few more brothers got this flu as well. And on top of it my neighbor at the hospital insulted me. Some other time I would beat all the shit out of him, but now I am in a very sad mood and only tears are rolling down me cheeks: drip... drip... I am already tired of this flu. Ash visited me and told that Blue got into her pyromaniac thing again. This time it happened away from the Convent and she was left alone until she calmed down in a couple hours. We could say those were fireworks for the memorial day, I guess...

NEW PRIZON
It's been almost a month since my last record and it seems like nothing interesting is happening around. We did a lot of mining, improved some defenses and built six comfortable prison cells; it turned out that we did it very on time. Today brothers Luis and Remy came from the Monastery and brought three female prisoners with them. Abbot Ralph sent them here as soon as they were healed, because he does not want any women at the Monastery, even prisoners, and he said that we also can send male ones to the Monastery when we get them. They said they also have one older lady (who is not capable of walking yet) and two men. All of them were captured during last two raids, one after another at the same day. Twelve people first time, and six the second. They sounded very proud of themselves when they were describing their glorious battles. Abbot Ralph sent us also some wood and four large sculptures made by brother Aaron, and they look excellent; he must be practicing a lot and he is becoming a good artist!

UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS
The prisoners did not appreciate our new prison cells. Maybe they did not like the color of the carpet? We put so much work in it lately! Anyway, they started their prison break today around 9:00. By the blessing of Mother Estelle, we did not try to hold them. And this is what happened. One of them went East and escaped successfully. The other one went North and got under our turrets fire; he got a minor hit, but he also was able to escape. Now, the last two young women Emmo and Rush went South through the Convent. And as they were moving through our East defenses, they attacked Sister Candice, who was walking by and began to beat her up. Nun Candice is uncapable of violence and everything she could do is to try running away. Our new novice Emily was nearby and wanted to protect her with the knife, but those women appeared to be very aggressive and started moving towards her. Emmo got in the trap, but Rush attacked Emily and kept moving inside the Convent until three our Labradors jumped on her, digging with their teeth and paws in her body. But even then, she was continuing to fight: she destroyed Ratten's front left paw and nose of Paddington – two young Labradors born about a year ago. Brave Ratten lost the paw protecting his bonded master Emily. I just can't hold the tears from my tender emotions!

SISTER'S DISTURBANCE
After that prison break everyone got very emotional, and it seemed like most of all because of Ratten's paw. It always amazes me how we start to cry seeing an animal losing its paw, but we remain cold and hardhearted when the humans lose their limbs. This is exactly what was happening. When ugly Lemur lost her leg, nobody was crying. When Blue lost her arm, everyone was talking only about her prosthophobe – there was no compassion. But now this puppy loses its paw and all the Convent (including me!) becomes restless; sisters are all in tears and they call a meeting to order and discuss our Prisoners Policy with such a zeal, as if they are deciding the destiny of mankind. Mother Estelle was forced to change her approach. We are not going to let our prisoners "just go" if they break from prison – it became too dangerous and may be a threat for our community. Instead we are going to install hidden traps at the prison doors and stop them in case of prison break before they cripple or kill somebody. And I am glad it has been changed. I did not like that spinelessness in the first place: mercy is mercy, but we must proceed from the realities of this Rimworld!

NEW COMPLAINS
It took two days for Emma (one of those prisoners who got at the trap) to make her decision about becoming a nun. All these two days she spent in her bed while sister Candice (this angel... after they beat her up!) was trying to recruit her, and as soon as she said she will stay, we found out that her spine was shattered, and she can't move at all. This news stirred up our sisterhood again and many sisters were saying that we must also change the way we accept new sisters as we just changed the Prisoners Policy yesterday. Why we should feed those who does not work? And they questioned the sincerity of her intentions when she basically did not have any other choice. Those rumors have reached Mother Estelle and at the dinner she spoke to all the sisters in a very strict manner, saying that everyone must remember why we became monastics and that our mission of love and compassion should be like a light in this cruel Rimworld. "If anyone wants to leave, you can leave. – She said – But if you stay, please, follow the holy rules of our Order and do not forget that we are not just a regular colony. We are the monastic settlement. And since today we are opening the hospice for disabled and elderly and this will be one of the ministries of our Convent". Everyone left the dinner in silent meditation about something sublime and mysteriously incomprehensible.

NEW OBEDIENCE
Brother Peter came today with a new brother Susumu, who's right leg was missing, and Mother Estelle called us with Sister Klavdiya in her cell and gave us new obedience. Since we decided to open a hospice, she thinks it is a clever idea to learn more about medicine. Sister Klavdia and me, as the best doctors, are going to learn advanced surgery methods and prosthetics design. She introduced us to Brother Susumu and said that soon we will be able to make a real prosthetic leg for him. And meanwhile under Sister Klavdiya's guidance I will install him my first ever peg leg. Brother Peter was very happy to hear this news and expressed his hope that other brothers may be healed as well, because, as he said, up to now from ten brothers in the Monastery he is the only one without any injuries or diseases. "I feel myself like in a polyclinic, not like in a monastery!" – he laughed. But Brother Susumu did not even smile for some reason. Brother Peter also told us how beautiful it is at the Monastery – everything covered with snow! Although it is very cold. Abbot Ralph ordered ten parkas for all the brothers, because it seems like every winter they have a cold snap.

HATRED
I did not expect it to happen so fast, but here we are: today I installed a prosthetic leg for Susumu, first time in my life. Now I am a surgeon! But my joy is spoiled: next operation is scheduled for ugly Lemur and my hands are starting to shake when I only think about it. My anger against her is enormous. When she walks by I barely can hold myself from insulting or even pushing her! This is so bad, I feel like I cannot control myself. I am like a slave of my passion: it leads me wherever it wants. Now I feel like I have over 90% of this hatred towards Lemur, and what is going to happen if it gets to 100? Am I going to kill her? And what about love? How can I be like that wearing these monastic clothes? No, I am absolutly unworthy to be a nun. Probably it will be right thing to just leave the Convent and return to the world... Oh, here we go, I am starting to cry again. Are those the tears of repentance?

RESTLESS RUSH
I can't believe it, but after eight days this... not good lady Rush (I'm trying to avoid using bad words) breaks the doors and tries to escape again! But this time we were ready for that. First, she gets into a trap installed at her door: it cracks her left clavicle and hits her ear and shoulder. She is bleeding a little and keeps moving West towards the center of the Convent. At the doors Sister Ammy meets her with the fire of her pump shogun, but she misses and steps back. When Rush enters the inner yard, one handed Blue fires in her from machine pistole, but also misses. Rush keeps moving, until Sister Lemur discharges her pump shotgun in her. It hits her in the leg and really slows her down. Sister Blue fires again and Rush falls to the ground. Sisters, resenting that Rush is still wearing her armor vest and power helmet, strip her right there, and Sister Ammy takes her naked back to the cell. And it was -22C outside. When Mother Estelle heard about it, she was very upset and asked sisters to unstrip prisoners in their cells next time. Later I learned that during all this cold snap we completely forgot to turn on the heat in the Rush's cell and she was staying there at -20C. Maybe this cold drove her crazy, but everyone say we didn't do it intentionally, we just forgot, as we forgot to take of her armor and helmet...

FRIENDS
Mother Estelle visited Rush in the morning and learned that she was from the same world as Brother Aaron and they even met before. She invited Brother Aaron to come at the Convent as soon as possible and meet with Rush, because she had a feeling that meeting with an old friend may soften her heart. Mother Estelle always say that those who seem to be the most difficult souls may become the most precious once. And indeed, to everyone's surprise, Brother Aaron convinced Rush to stay at the Convent. When sisters later were asking him how he was able to do that, he was mostly joking about it, but said that she made her final decision when she learned about her paralyzed friend. And, of course, my inspiration closed the deal, - he was smiling with his blue eyes (the rest of his face was covered by the war vail). THIRD ANNUAL MEETING
Mother Estelle made her report about the Convent: we have fifteen sisters now – eleven nuns and four novices. Abbot Ralph could not come, because of a manhunting pack of wild Labradors at the doors of the Monastery. But he sent his report to the Meeting: they have ten brothers – two monks and eight novices. So, the Order has twenty-five monastics total. Not a single person was lost except our beloved Brother Snay (may his memory be eternal!) Then the Meeting was discussing a petition from our new sisters Rush and Emma (whose bionic spine was just installed). They were asking for the blessing to move a little away from the Convent for more ascetical life in the caves of cryptosleep hall mountain. The discussion was opened, and some sisters spoke against it, because Rush and Emma are just novices and not experienced in monastic life; others were saying that this is the meaning of monasticism – to depart from comfort, and if someone wishes to live a solitude life of struggles, they should go for it. Mother Estelle warned them that in the caves there is a big chance of new infestations (we had two already), but Rush said they are not afraid of those and will fry them up with Molotov. Finally, Mother Estelle gave her blessing for it and said that the Convent will provide them raw food only and they should stay there in complete solitude for one year. I am not surprised they want to stay away from us – everyone is looking hostile at them after their recent prison breaks and even Ratten is always growling at Rush when she is passing by: he did not forgot who destroyed his paw and tail.

THE END OF PEACEFUL TIMES
Finally, we got a raid. First one last summer (three seasons ago)! And it seems like our peaceful times are coming to the end. Monastery had a few raids, and our abundant site (rumors say) was visited often by raiders, but we were enjoying peace and quiet. Up until now. Everybody is exited and scared at the same time. Abbot Ralph is visiting us with novice Sora; he was going to make him a monk today. Now they are operating our two mortars. And I am finishing this sentence, taking my bolt action rifle and running to our defensive positions. There are thirteen very well armed pirates of The Black Gorillas. If I will not return from this fight, whoever find this journal, please, hand it to Abbess Estelle, or give it to the Convent library. And, please, pray for my lost soul!

COMBAT RAGE
I am so exited! I am feeling like going after those pirates to their outpost and wipe it out of the planet! They are not that scary; we scared them away! After a few more unsuccessful shots, another high-explosive shell landed in their crowd. So, when they started their attack, they left behind three dead bodies and one man downed. Five of them went North to our East Defensive Position well protected with three turrets, and four started to move towards a narrow opening, where we all were aiming our guns. A man with LMG showed up and he was very much surprised with number of bullets we sent towards him. He turned back, but momentarily fell to the ground dead. Another desperate woman wearing a power belt made it to our lines, but what she could do all by herself? The other two pirates decided to join the main group. We all ran to our East position, where a sniper was already targeting one of our turrets. But when another guy got in our trap, they decided to retreat and started to flee. None of us got a single scratch! We tried to capture their general, who was downed, but unfortunately, he died right after we put him in the bed. The conclusion? They used very stupid tactics. If they would stay in one group they'd have more chances I think. Well, I can't wait now for another raid! Although probably I should calm down and return to my monastic prayers. (Deep breath in and out.)

AT THE HOSPITAL
Nothing serious. Just bruises all over my body and two cracks in my leg: our new novice beat me up. Her name is Doyle. I just said one innocent joke about her looks at Ash's cell and she jumped on me with her furious fists. I've never seen such a jealous person in my life. I couldn't even fight her properly, because I was upset about Emma. When I was leaving the raw rice for our two cave hermits, Rush spoke to me from behind the door (we are not allowed to go inside). She said that it's been only five days of their seclusion and Emma is not doing well at all. She is constantly in depression and now even in a mental break (daze). She asked me as a doctor if I can help with that? But what can I do? This is not body, where you can install a prosthetic part instead of a missing one. This is the soul. I told her that maybe this kind of life is not for her, despite she has ascetic intentions. And coming down to the Convent I was thinking that it would be better for Emma to return to normal life with all the sisters, when I saw those jealous eyes of Sister Doyle. Well, now Mother Estelle has a new punishment for those who fight at the Convent. Together with Doyle we will go for a mining trip and will spent one week together. Mother thinks that going through all the struggles of the journey will help us to improve our relationship. Well, well only if we will not kill each other over there. We must leave as soon as we will be healed.

Emma came back to normal after fifteen hours in restrains. Mother Estelle invited her to have a little refreshment time with sisters, and I was chatting with her about staying in the Convent for good, but she wants to return to the caves this afternoon. Then Mother Estelle came to me and handed me a piece of paper with following:

She said Abbot Ralph gave his blessing for Louis to go with us, because the Monastery wants to order two expansive operations as well. "Any other valuable resources are welcomed, - she said. – And, please, remember that the main goal of this mining trip is repentance and improving your relationship with Sister Doyle." She reminded me that I am an older nun and I must show good example. She appointed me to be a head of the group and we are going to leave today.

BAD START
Our trip went terrible from very beginning. After we picked up Louis and the muffalos at the Monastery, we traveled to a random spot. But when we arrived there we couldn't find a single trace of plaseel. It was late afternoon and I did not want to stay there overnight, so we packed everything and started moving, and then... we saw four raiders moving in our direction. My first thought was to unpack and fight, but I took a risk and we kept moving, until we left that place and were able to escape from pirates. Next day we came to another spot and found some Plaseel and Compacted Machinery. But as soon as we started to settle there – we've got another raid. Four tribes-people were attacking us immediately. Two brawlers were able to get close and wounded me and Louis before we killed them; the other two escaped. Soon I got infection in my arm and then in my hand. And it is getting more and more hot. I can barely think straight... We need to build a decent shelter as soon as possible, before someone gets a heatstroke.

BEST FRIEND'S DEATH
Today I got a terrible news from the Convent: my best friend Ash is dead. Sister Larussa said over the comm that nobody tells them what happened. Sister Albina just said that it was an accident, but Larussa while burying her body saw that she was shot. She said it all started two days ago. First, some psychic drone went on affecting women and all the sisters got in a very bad mood. In about two hours heat wave started, followed by a sun flare. This is when some sisters started to have mental breaks: drone, heat, no AC. Larussa thinks the death of Ash is connected somehow to all those events. And then next day they had huge attack of three Cythers and four Centipedes which they were able to repel by some miracle. All East defenses (including turrets) are destroyed. I am lying in my bed and crying. Ash was my closest friend and I can't believe I will not see her again. I can't think about mining, I just want to stay in my bed and maybe even dye – such a sorrow seized my soul. And only one desire makes sense to my life now: I am going to find out what happened with Ash when we are back at the Convent.

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
Five days in a row, literally every day we are having those raids one after another. We just had an attack of another four tribespeople and I was unlucky to be hit by one of their arrows. I was just healed after previous raid and here I go again. We just can't get to the mining! Honcho, my new Labrador friend was protecting me well and got a few blows with a club. Louis yesterday got malaria and spent most of the time in the bed. In two days it is going to be a week since we left the Convent and we didn't even get to work! But we have three nice bedrooms here and a dinning room. Tomorrow I will call Mother Estelle and ask her what we should do. Larussa called me today and said that the Monastery was attacked as well by sixteen tribespeople. They almost stole Novice Remy, but brothers chased and killed the thief, and they returned Brother Remy to the Monastery barely alive. Five of nine brothers there are also sick with malaria and flu. What is going on in our area? It seems like all the forces of evil have rebelled against us!

MOTHER'S BLESSING
Today I called Mother Estelle and made a report about our situation. It's been almost one week since we left and with all the tribulations we were able to mine only 68 Plasteel. Louis still has malaria, but he is getting better. Mother blessed us to stay for one more week and focus on Plasteel and Compacted Machinery only. After that, if there are still resources left, we will return home and she will send another shift. She also asked to pray for Abbot Ralph and all the brotherhood as they were attacked very heavily by eleven Black Gorillas pirates this night. Everyone is alive, but Abbot Ralph and Brother Jacob were downed. All others, except Brother Troy (who is not capable of violence) are wounded. Mother Estelle sent three doctoring sisters to help them with recovery. This is the sixth day in a row we are being raided.

CONFUSING THOUGHTS
Louis is 34, just like me and he has very pretty face. Today he looked at me in a weird way, like he was paying attention to me as to a woman and I felt very confused. He should not look that way at a nun. Of course, I pretended not to notice anything, but when I was back in my cell the thoughts started to come. They were telling me: "Poppy, and what if you wouldn't become a nun? Then you could get married. You would have family and kids. There are many colonies in this Rimworld and you could choose to live in any of them instead of this Whiterock Order." And such thoughts were bothering me until late night when I finally fell asleep. When I got up, I did my morning prayers and all that fog went away. Having a family is a good thing, but my divine calling is different, and I must follow it. From now on I must be very careful with Louise... and with other men too, I guess!

"LAST" DAY OF THE MINING TRIP
We mined out all the Plasteel and Machinery yesterday and decided to spend this last day for hunting wild turkeys and ostrich (for their dark skin). But at 9 in the morning four raiders showed up South of our camp and started to prepare their attack. I decided to attack them right away, and we started to move down the forest. We found a protected spot behind the rocks and I was able to put my bullet in one of the pirate's leg. I was aiming two of them with revolvers, while two brawlers were approaching our position. When they were getting closer, I commanded to everyone to aim the closest guy, and he immediately fell to the ground, scattering his beer bottles around. We were able to fire another salvo at the second brawler and wounded him, but he kept moving and we retreated a little to fire some more shots, after which he was finally downed. Meanwhile the other two pirates were shooting at us from their revolvers, and first they hit Louis at his left leg and then me at my torso. We started to move back to the camp, but somehow, we made another stop behind sandstone chunks and for some time were shooting back and forth until I got another bullet and Doyle got three, starting to bleed badly. Then we continued to move and took our positions at the camp. As soon as they showed up, my first shot killed the first guy, and another one started to flee. This is how we spent the last morning of our mining trip, which probably won't be the last anymore: we have to heal ourselves before going back and may spent here another day or two.

BEAUTIFUL EVENING
Sisters Ayana and Rebecca came around noon to replace me and Doyle. Louis is going to stay for two more weeks or as long as they will need to mine out all the steel. Honcho was surprised to see his friend Cecil and they were running around together barking and smiling to each other until late night. In the evening we got all together at the dinning room. Today is exactly three years since Brother Snay died, and everyone was asking me to tell them about Brother Snay, because I was the only one who knew him alive. Well, I spent with him only several days, but it seemed like I could speak about him for hours. I told them that he was very strict about monastic rules, especially about men and women living separately: he left Mother Estelle and Sister Albina as soon as they crashed on the planet (and I gave a meaningful look to Louis). But at the same time, Brother Snay was very kind. He was teaching us to avoid unnecessary violence and to have love and patience for each other. It was a beautiful evening of warm memories. When I was back in my cell, I also thought a lot about my best friend Ash, who died recently. I must find out what happened. We are going to leave tomorrow morning, so, I better go to sleep now. IMPROVING RELATIONSHIP
Home, sweet home! After two weeks we are back at the Convent! We brought much more resources then we planned and now everyone can get their prosthetics done. Concerning relationship improvement (that was the main goal of this trip), I spoke with Mother Estelle and shared with her that sincerely I consider Sister Doyle my friend now. Unfortunately, she does not seem to feel the same way towards me. She keeps being rude to me and insulted me even this very morning while we were packing our caravan. I was very glad to tell Mother, that I am not getting angry anymore. And she is young, only 18, she doesn't know much yet. For example, there is a monastic rule: when you make a way with someone older than you, don't go ahead of him. But she runs like a deer so that we can barely keep up with her. Although I shouldn't complain about that – I am not an old lady yet! Anyway, Mother Estelle was very satisfied by my report and said that she will talk with Sister Doyle later: there is a lot of care should be taken about young souls.

DAY OFF
Mother Estelle blessed us to take a day off yesterday as a reward after those two weeks mining trip and I spent it walking around the Convent and visiting Ash's grave. Our hermits Rush and Emma are still in the caves preparing sewing workshop. They live without electricity there, so they will use a hand tailor bench to produce new apparel for sisterhood. I feel rested, but just now I learned that a Poison Ship Part had landed NE of the Convent. We are going to get together in the morning and discuss our plan.

FIGHT WITH CENTIPEDES
In the morning after we had our breakfast, we decided to attack the Ship Part without any preparation. Larussa hit it from her sniper rifle and three Centipedes showed up. There were no Scythers and that made our life much easier. We joined Larussa with our bolt action rifles and Mother went back to the Convent to get the second sniper rifle. So, we were kiting them down towards our Northern turrets, while one of them, being heavily damaged, was slowed down a lot. The first two finally got at the range of our turrets, and the third one managed to fire its last lucky shot from the inferno cannon, giving some minor burns to Sister Lemur, who was stupid enough to get so close with her peg leg! No one else was hurt. The fight took almost all day and being very tired we returned to our cells at the very dark.

WHO KILLED ASH?
After the fight with Centipedes I met with Sister Larussa and asked her about Ash's death. She told me everything she knew, but not much. She wasn't there at the time of incident. Mother Estelle asked her to burry Ash's body later. "I found her body outside the Convent walls, - she said, - on East side. It was the time when Psychic Drone went on, which drove all the sisters crazy. I myself couldn't think clearly, but moved like through a mental fog. Mother Estelle should know more about it." And I went to Mother. "It was an accident, - she said. – Sister Ash lost control and we tried to arrest her for her safety, but she did not want to obey. She went berserk and one of the sisters was trying to stop her, shooting in her leg. Unfortunately, the bullet was fatal. It's a tragedy and there is no one to blame. We all mourn about her. I suggest you increase your prayers instead of this investigation." "But it was wrong to use ranged weapon in this case, - I said. – We have to ask everyone to be gentler if something like that happens in the future. Anyone could be in her place." And Mother agreed, saying that she will make an official announcement about it. Indeed, what I was going to do even if I learned who made that shot? Make a revenge? I went to my cell and gave myself a promise to remember Sister Ash in my daily prayers until the end of my life...

THREE SNIPERS TEAM
Tonight, Larussa came back from her Monastery trip and told me an interesting story. She was already packing her caravan to return here, when eight raiders started to siege the Monastery. She suggested to brothers Aaron and Remy to get the sniper rifles and move towards pirates. Soon they were within firing distance, and they started to snipe the villains one by one. Their legs and arms were flying around spattering blood all over the place; two of them were shot to death. Meanwhile, Brother Jacob was covering them with mortar fire. When one of the shells exploded downing the third pirate and destroying their almost finished mortar, they lost their patience and started their attack. Sniper team immediately retreated, and everyone got ready to greet those bastards. At the same time a group of travelers was passing by ang leading pirate turned south, starting to shoot at them. The travelers turned to him and soon he was downed under the rain of their bullets (later we captured him). Another pirate was killed at the defense positions and the rest started to flee. "It is a deadly composition, - she said finalizing her story, - three snipers targeting the same guy! They didn't have a chance!" Larussa brought a lot of marble blocks (eight muffalos!), so tomorrow we are going to continue working on our flagstone project.

THE FATE OF THE PIRATE
Brother Victor came today with four muffalos, bringing the rest of marble stone blocks from the Monastery. He came to me after we unloaded everything and was asking what is needed for him to get a bionic body part. He is not in desperate need, he has just a bite scar on his left leg, but he is a prosthophile and he can't wait to get a bionic leg. I told him that we will need 50 steel, 60 plasteel and 8 components, and this is a lot of money. But he said he will try to get all that. "If you bring the materials, - I said, - we will do a bionic leg for you." He was shining. Then we talked about different things, among which he shared with me what happened with him yesterday. "I was observing forest fires to see how dangerous they might be for the Monastery, when I came across a horrifying picture: there was a bloody body with missing leg and hand. I realized that this was one of those pirates from recent siege. She probably was left behind when her friends started their attack. Our sniper team shot off her leg and arm and she was crawling, forgotten by everyone, until she finally died from blood loss. I picked up her pump shotgun and came back to the Monastery. But I could not sleep that night. My conscience tormented me for leaving her there to be eaten by beasts. In the morning at the breakfast I opened my feelings to Abbot Ralph. "What is a life of a human in this Rimworld? – said Brother Aaron, who was sitting near by and herd my story, - It is like a fog; now it is here, and, in a moment, it is gone. Blessed is a man who will die for something good..." Abbot Ralph kept silence for a while, looking in his plate, and then he gave me a blessing to bury her body. I thought it was burned down by the fires, but I found it untouched, because of the rain at night. And I buried her behind east monastery walls." " I've never thought that this prosthophile is such a poet!

INFESTATION
Part I: Overconfidence
When Mother Estelle warned Rush and Emma about infestations, I remember how Rush said: "We will fry them up with Molotov!" This is how it sounded in words, but it turned out very different in reality. The insect hives spawned inside Rush's tiny cell around 14:00, when they were at the Cryptosleep hall. By the time Emma got to the door with Molotov, the cell was already full of bugs. She heard their noise and thought she will open the door a little, will quickly throw Molotov and run away: "My bionic spine will let me sneak out, - she thought, - I move very fast now!" So, she opened the door. The room was so small, and insectoids were so tightly packed in there that for Megaspiders it was enough to just turn their head and their ripper-blades were already slashing Emma's legs and waist. But she was fast indeed and, in a moment, she was in the Hall. This is when they had to call for help, but... they thought they will kill the insectoids by themselves and will be glorified as heroes! Emma waited a little, opened the door to a hallway and threw a bottle of Molotov. But the Megaspiders were right there. They broke into the Cryptosleep Hall and in a moment Emma was downed. In a few more moments Rush was downed as well. This is when I entered the caves from our (sisters') side to work on a storage room. I suddenly found myself within a few feet from the hives and insectoids, which dug a hole in Rush's cell by that time . Horrified, I rushed back to the door, but Megaspider's claw did cut my back as I was escaping that hell. I sounded the alarm and sisters started to gather for dealing with this overconfident fruit of vainglory.

INFESTATION
Part II: Guardian Angel
The idea we had when all the sisters got together was again to start fire in the caves and to annihilate the insectiods by heat. But the only Molotov we had for that was dropped by Emma, who was still laying in the Cryptosleep Hall; therefore, we decided to use chemfuel. Mother sent Sister Doyle to the Convent to bring some, and Emily was going to explode it with her frag grenades. While Doyle was running there, Sister Candice performed a miracle. She went to the northern entrance of the Hall, where Rush was downed, waited until all the bugs moved to their hives and rescued Sister Rush, running with her across the Cryptosleep Hall to the South entrance. The insectoids did not even notice her and, leaving Rush outside, she ran inside again and saved Emma. She became a guardian angel for them, saving their lives! By that time Sister Doyle was back. She was so excited, that went inside the caves without any preparation, trying to deliver the chemfuel to the hives. But Megaspiders were waiting for her right there and she, getting cuts all over her body, fell on the stone floor covered in blood. Meanwhile Sister Albina was able to rescue Katten (a poppy who was also downed at the Hall) and to get Emma's Molotov. We were standing behind the doors to the storage rooms where Doyle was downed and Emily took a grenade, looking at me for approval. "Are you crazy? – I whispered, - you will kill her!" "This may be the only chance, - she said. – Doyle most likely is already dead." And she opened the door to throw a grenade into the room where Doyle was lying on the floor next to the containers of chemfuel she just dropped. I closed my eyes...

INFESTATION
Part III: Chemfuel
I am not sure what was happening in Emily's head, but when she opened the door, she saw no insectoids next to Doyle and instead of throwing her grenade, she run right to the chemfuel, took a few containers and put them in the room with hives. On her way back, she grabbed Doyle and carried her outside. I was in joyful shock about Doyle's salvation, because my imagination already drew a picture how she, being still alive, is shredded to pieces by a frag grenade. But Emily didn't stop on that. She opens the door again and finally throws her grenade next to chemfuel containers. At the last moment she noticed a Megaspider and a Spelopede rushing towards her, and they threw her on the floor under the deafening sounds of exploding chemfuel. She did it! Now we had to hope that the fire will spread from the storage room to the hives. Emily was downed at the doorway and we needed to rescue her as soon as possible before fire gets to her. We sent Sister Ammy to northern door of the Hall to destruct the insectoids from the hives. When the storage room was safe, Sister Blue rescued Emily and told us that out of the corner of her eye she saw the fire in the hives room. "Yes!" – we were all screaming as if we already had a victory. And our voices did not abate, when we heard another news: "A group of mechanoids from a mechanoid hive arrived nearby. They are attacking immediately!"

INFESTATION
Part IV: Skythers
By the time we learned about mechanoid's raid, we had three sisters at the hospital. Me and Mother Estelle were bleeding, but there was no time for medical help. I was hungry and very tired. My back was hurting. But we did not have any choice, we had to move to our northern defenses and wait there for mechanoid's attack. It was already dark when I saw their white shiny bodies at the distance. They stopped out of the range of our turrets and started to shoot at us. Mother Estelle got closer to their position and opened fire, hiding after every shot she was making. Little by little she managed to down all three of them. "This charge rifle is the best, - she said. - We have to make more of those." We were so exhausted that we did not have any strength to deal with anything after that. Sister Candice said the temperature in the caves got so high that nothing can survive it. It was around midnight when, after bandaging our wounds, we got to our beds. I hope very much that we will have a little break after all these adventures.

DISOBEDIENCE
When everyone got out of the hospital, Mother Estelle gathered all the sisters in the dining room and said: "There will be no hermit life at the Convent anymore. We tried it and it didn't work. We are leaving you for higher path of salvation!" Everyone was silent for a moment. Then Nun Albina said: "You are so pathetic! You do not understand monasticism at all: you are not even nuns yet! You are novices and your subject of study is obedience. So now you don't want to obey, but you want to follow your own will. This is what you call true monasticism?" "Sisters, - said Mother Estelle peacefully, - think again about it. We all love you and wish you salvation. Where are you going to go? How are you going to live without spiritual guidance? Believe me, monastic life is not about electricity, but about obedience, patience and love!" But Sister Rush looked adamant. "At least you can stay", - said Mother to Emma, because Emma looked very confused by the harsh words of her friend. "No, - she answered lowering her eyes, - I'll go with Rush." "Well, - Mother Estelle said, - we do not hold anyone by force. You can leave any time and to show you our love, we are letting you to take anything you may need. And, please, remember: this is your home and your family. You can come back any time. Emma was already crying, but Rush did not show a single sign of her feelings on her face. I returned to my cell with a crowd of conflicting thoughts in my head.

FAREWELL
Even her last night Rush did not want to spend at the Convent. She went to the caves and slept in one of the cells over there. In the morning they got mainly food and some medicine, and they were ready to go. Sister Candice convinced them to take armor vests and two parkas, because they were heading south in the colder area, and winter was coming. Every sister gave them a hug, and many could not hold their tears, understanding that they may not see these hermits anymore. Only Nun Albina did not come to say good bye, - she kept saying that they are making a huge mistake and will parish for nothing. Later Sister Candice told me that she literally forced Emma to take a portable comm device for emergency calls. But if they will not have electricity, the battery in it will last only for about a year. One more time I was surprised how Sister Candice can do it and where does she get all this love from? It was Rush who attacked her at the time of her first prison break, and yet it seems like they are best friends now! This was the first time someone was leaving our Convent and I felt like I was losing a little particle of myself. My soul shrank into a small ball somewhere inside my chest and heavy sorrow covered it from every side.

BUSINESS PLAN
Victor came again to the Convent, delivering tons of steel from the mining site. He came to me very exited and explained his plan for getting all necessary materials to make a bionic leg for him, a bionic spine for Remy and synthetic skin for healing Abbot Ralph's remaining brain scars. He is assembling a team to get an AI persona core worth 4000 silver. That will be enough to cover all material expanses. Abbot Ralph blessed him and Brother Remy to travel at the given site and get the core. But they need a third person, preferably a doctor, because this item may attract pirates and the trip can be dangerous. Of course, he invited me to join them. I liked the idea to dissipate my sorrow by some adventure and we went to Mother Estelle for a blessing. She did not want to let me go first, but when Brother Victor almost crying started to explain her how it is difficult for Brother Remy to live in constant pain with his bad back, she gave up. She made sure I will wear an armor vest and she even gave me her charge rifle. Brother Victor says it shouldn't take more than three days. We are going to live early morning.

STOP AT THE MONASTERY
When yesterday we came to the Monastery to pick up Brother Remy, we saw blood and dead bodies scattered all over the place. Abbot Ralph looked gloomy and asked us to stay and help to clean up all this mess. They just had a raid of fourteen pirates. They captured two of them and I helped with their treatment. Some of the brothers were wounded, but there was nothing serious. There were also two new sisters: one was a recruit from a previous raid named Yana, and another one is Lidia – the cause of all this horror. The pirates chased her, and Abbot Ralph decided to offer her safety. In the morning Brother Aaron took me to the place where everything started yesterday. "It was a perfect sniper shot, - he said, - the fight started with my bullet knocking out his brains." And he showed me the body with missing head. He did not wear a war vail anymore – his artificial nose looked like a real one! We helped them to gather all the bodies in one big pile and Brother Jacob lit them with Molotov. It is 14:00 and we are leaving the Monastery with Brother Remy, continuing our journey northbound in the search of the AI persona core. Sisters Yana and Lidia are going to the Convent.

The prayers of Brother Peter were heard! Next day one of the space soldiers Troy Weiss joined the Order (yes, that was surprisingly fast!). INVISIBLE DOGS
It took us two days to get to the place, where AI Persona Core was supposed to be. When we arrived, we carefully observed that area from the distance but did not see anything suspicious. There was a cabin in the middle of the forest and we started to slowly move towards it. When we already were almost by the cabin suddenly four wild Labradors appeared next to us out of the blue and pounced at Victor who was moving first. He started to fight them with his plasteel gladius (he is a brawler) and we opened fire. Our Labradors Cecil and Ingrid also entered the fight and soon all four beasts were killed. But Victor was bitten very badly. We carried him into the cabin, where we indeed found the Core, and I cured his multiple wounds. We can't stay in this place for long time, because many people know about it and bad guys may show up any minute. And we can't travel back either, because Victor is still in severe pain. So, we decided to move a little South tomorrow morning and make a temporary camp near by to give Victor some time for recovery and to prepare some food for our trip home.

TRAGEDY AT THE MINING SITE
When I was reporting to the monastery about our situation, Sister Candice asked for our prayers about Brother Louise and our new sisters Yana and Lidia. It was the end of the second two weeks shift at the mining site and Mother Estelle gave her blessing for those new sisters to replace Sisters Ayana and Rebecca. There was a little mining left and then all those tons of steel had to be transported to the Convent and Monastery. After Ayana and Rebecca left with a big load of it, they decided to hunt a small herd of muffalos nearby. Unfortunately, after they killed one of them and started to shoot at another, the herd went mad and first they trampled Brother Louis, who was downed immediately and then they chased sisters to the camp. Sisters were trying to fight them back, but those furious beasts crushed one door after another until everyone was downed. Suicidal (one of Labradors who were protecting sisters) was bleeding, her paw was destroyed, but heroically she rescued sisters, while Louis is still lying somewhere in the forest with destroyed left hand and his life is in critical danger now. Ayana's's caravan was almost at the Convent, but they were turned back and now everyone is praying that they will get there on time. Poor Louise, he was going to be replaced tomorrow!

SCANDAL
Yesterday we returned to the Monastery under toxic fallout. To avoid its deadly effect, brothers temporarily covered with roof all their inner yard. Victor was fine by that time and I was asked to visit mining site on my way to the Convent to look at Louise's hand. Sisters were able to save him and Yana, but Lidia died. Today we arrived at the mining site with Brother Sora, who will replace Louis for the rest of the time. At the site we found both sisters Ayana and Rebecca crying. Rebecca was sure it was her fault that Lidia died. Somehow, she thought Lidia could wait and she put all her attention to saving Louis's life, while Lidia died from blood loss. I calmed her down as best as I could, saying that even for an experienced doctor it is hard to make those priority decisions sometimes and she is just a beginner. And then we had a deep talk with Sister Ayana. She opened me her heart: they became lovers with Louis right before she left, and she thinks that all this tragedy with Lidia's death and Louis' lost hand is the punishment for their sin. "He is just a novice, - she said through tears, - but what I was thinking about? I am a nun and now I broke my promise!" I told her that Louise was trying to woo me also and most likely it is his fault. But anyway, I said she must confess everything to Mother Estelle as soon as possible and to accept her decision about it. This is exactly why Brother Snay was so strict about monastic rules. Now I understand!

LUST FOR POWER
When we returned to the Convent with sisters Ayana and Rebecca, we learned a news which started a big temptation in my head. A day ago, there was a raid of eight pirates and it did not seem dangerous, and was defeated easily, except one incident: sister Albina got a bullet in her head. She did not die, but after this trauma her behavior has been changing significantly. She does not talk anymore, and it seems like she does not hear either, because she is not responding to anything. Instead she started to work really fast, but it seems very weird as if she is living in her own world now. And here is the temptation. Sister Albina is the oldest sister (by tonsure) after Mother Estelle. And according to Order rules if Abbess dies, the older sister becomes a new Abbess. But since Sister Albina got this kind of brain injury, she will not be able to be an Abbess. And this means that the next candidate is me. Well, Mother Estelle is only 26 and her health is perfect, but very strange and sneaky feelings started to entangle my heart. What is it? I've never even thought about being an Abbess before and look at me: there has been a snake sleeping inside of my soul and now it is starting to wake up.

NEWS ABOUT ASCETICS
A bulk goods trader of Haten named Timothy visited our Convent with his caravan today and he told us about our disobedient hermits. He met Rush at about 10 days journey from here towards South. She has a small camp and she is staying there by herself. She told Timothy about her friend Emma, who died from infection caused by untreated Labrador bites. She was downed by a wild dog and Rush couldn't help her even with elementary treatment, because she is not capable of doing any medical work at all! Now she is there alone, and Timothy said that in his opinion it is just a matter of time – there is not a single chance she can survive, not being able to help herself even with minor health problems. We were so grieved about Emma! It seemed like she left the Convent only because of strong influence of Rush and now... she is dead. Her death will remain on Rush's conscience. And just now we got a call from Sister Larussa (they are delivering a prosthetics order to a nearby base) that Blue went on a fire-starting spree again in the middle of their trip! Oh, those pyromaniacs! You can never trust them! I hope it will not cause another death...

KIDNAPPING
When the mining team offered safety to Nicole, they did not think it is going to be such a crowd of raiders chasing her. Eight pirates showed up soon. But even with Nicole it was four vs eight, and they did not have any defenses. Very soon all three of them were downed and Nicole was hiding in the dinning room. She prepared for pirate's assault, but it was suspiciously quiet. She looked outside and gasped: Yana and Sora were gone. She ran outside and saw how pirates were carrying them away. Some of the raiders were still in the camp and she shot one more pirate, downed another one and started to chase the thieves. But they were already far away. Luckily, Suicidal attacked one of the kidnappers and he let Sora go, but Yana was carried away forever. With the blessing of Mother Estelle, I am leaving right now to provide them medical help.

POLAR BEARS
This manhunter pack of three polar bears is really crazy. How did they get here? We are so far from both South and North poles... I would love to hear their story! Anyway, we decided to hide in the dinning room and wait out. There are enough tragedies for this mining site. We got over 10000 of Steel, a lot of Plasteel and Components, but the price we had to pay for all this is too high: Lidia died, Yana was kidnapped, and Louis lost his left hand. Plus, this scandal with Ayana and Louis... So much harm to our community for obtaining just some resources? It doesn't make sense to lose people and body parts for making a few prosthetics. If I would be an Abbess, I would think twice, before... Oh! Look at yourself, Poppy! What's going on in your head? Truly it is from idleness those stupid and dangerous thoughts are coming to your head. I am just a nun... I am just a nun... I am just a nun...

NIGHT WORRIES
When we returned to the Convent, we had barely enough rooms for everyone to stay. All sixteen sisters were here now, plus Abbot Ralph and Brother Peter, who came for our Fourth Annual Meeting. In the middle of the night we got a call about a huge raid of eleven pirates at the Monastery. Abbot Ralph was very excited; he was touching the edge of his Abbot's hat in anxiety and was repeating: "There are only six of them, who can fight, there are only six of them..." Mother Estelle was calming him down, saying that their defenses are strong, and everything will be fine. This is what we learned later. The pirates did not attack immediately, but they started to prepare at their spot north of the Monastery. Aaron went there hoping to get one of them with his sniper rifle, but they noticed him and three their snipers opened the fire before he even saw them. He was lucky to be downed from one bullet hitting his right leg. Otherwise those three guys would shred him to pieces. Brother Victor made a desperate attempt to save him, but snipers noticed him as well and he had to retreat. Soon they started their attack, killing brothers' Husky and a Labrador puppet (damn knackers!). But when they got to the turrets everything happened very quickly: four of them were downed (and captured later) and three were killed. At the time of attack at their South defenses, Troy, who is incapable of violence, rescued Brother Aaron. This way everyone stayed alive. Jacob got a few bruises from sniper rifle (one of the snipers was able to get to their line) and Wade got a few burns from incendiary launcher explosion. We returned to our cells relieved: it was a clear victory.

FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING
Part I: The Lovers
Mother Estelle and Abbot Ralph made their reports, saying that the community of Whiterock Order is growing: twenty-nine monastics: fourteen men and fifteen women. However, the scandal of fall between Nun Ayana and Novice Louis must be addressed as strict as possible to prevent such failures in future and to provide an educational punishment. Abbot Ralf offered to banish the sinners for good. But such decision, according to the Order Rules must be made by the majority votes and most of us were against such radical measure. Finally, everyone agreed to take off from Ayana her monastic clothes for a period of one year, and for the same period Louis' monastic tonsure will be postponed. This time will be given to them for repentance and on the next Annual Meeting they will have to confess their condition and the final decision on them will be made. Obviously, they are not being held at the community by force and they are free to leave any time. In the future any contacts between men and women in the Order will be minimalized and there will be no shared missions. Poor Ayana did not lift her eyes up and was only nodding with repentance. Louis is still at the mining site and I am afraid even to imagine his meeting with Abbot Ralph.

FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING
Part II: Mission to Glitterworld
The second part of the Meeting was devoted to building a ship. Mother Estelle reminded everyone about the original purpose of their trip with Brother Snay and Sister Albina four years ago, when they crashed on this planet: they were heading to Glitterworld. "Now, – she said, - we became strong enough to start building the space ship, which will let us to continue our original mission." It was decided that I am going to be, - as the oldest sister after the Abbess (since Albina has trauma savant), - the head of this project. I will have to find a please for starport, make all necessary calculations and lead the project. A lot of research must be done for building a ship and Abbess Estelle asked Abbot Ralph if they will be able to help with it. But Abbot Ralph waved his hand and said: "Not with intellectual work – we are all dumb idiots. We will try to help with getting resources instead." Many sisters started to giggle, but Abbot Ralph did not look joking, and everyone became silent, trying to figure out what does it mean if this is not a joke. After a ship will be built, twelve people (six sisters and six brothers) will be chosen by casting lots and they will carry the teaching of our Order to Glitterworld, founding over there a Monastery and a Convent.

CALL FROM RUSH
Unexpectedly we got a call from Rush. She asked for Mother Estelle and she was apologizing for everything and asking forgiveness from all the sisters for judging and condemning everyone. She used a portable comm device, which Sister Candice gave to Emma before they left. Rush had a raid of one woman pirate with Molotov; she got some burns, but killed the raider with her bolt action rifle.  What was much worse is that she got very sick with plague right after that, and she is getting ready for death, because she can't treat herself and there is no one around who could help her. So, she decided to lighten her soul before she died. Mother Estelle was touched by her repentance and asked if someone from our doctors would like to volunteer helping her. Out of our six doctors only three were suitable for such a trip: me, Larussa and Nicole. And we all were ready to go. But Mother choose Larussa, saying that I must concentrate on the ship project, and Nicole is too unexperienced for that. We are going to launch Sister Larussa in a transport pod and she will stay there with Rush as long as it will be needed.

STARPORT
Two Mechanoid raids were repelled, - one at the Convent and one at the Monastery at the same day on Septober 4th. We got off with some minor injuries: our turrets did their job. I had a conversation with Mother Estelle, asking her how am I going to lead the Ship Building Project if I am not capable of any intellectual work? She smiled and said: "You do not need any intellect for management; you just have to find smart people and tell them what to do." I showed her the place I thought was suitable for our future Starport, and she liked it. In afternoon they already started to lay down the concrete foundation for it. We also relocated our Research Lab to a bigger room and started to build one more Hi-tech Research Bench. Mother Estelle herself and Sister Klavdiya will help Candice with all research projects from now on. It feels good to oversee such an important project, but I am not sure if this feeling is correct. I find it more difficult now to keep my thoughts in the borders of humility. But what can I do? Obedience is obedience. At least, I wasn't looking for it myself.

COGUAR MADNESS
It is hard to realize what just happened. A huge pack of eighteen Coguars attacked the Convent. We prepared to shoot at them at our North defenses, but they moved so fast that we barely could make only one volley, which did not do much harm to them. In panic everyone started to run back inside the Convent. Now we realized that we have to build doors there – those beasts were like a lightening! Sister Nicole did not even have time to step backs, as Coguars knocked her down. Other sisters were able to escape inside, except little Emmy – she was downed at the doorway. Through the open doors Coguars broke into the Convent and attacked sisters Rebecca and Doyle. Doyle started to fight one of them and Coguar first stuck its teeth in her side, and then scratched her neck with its claws so badly that she dyed right there. Meanwhile Rebecca grabbed Ammy hoping that this will help to close the door and started to move towards hospital. But the door stayed open because of Ammy's LMG in the doorway (how stupid!), letting more and more Coguars inside the Convent yard. Very quickly they caught up with her and in a moment, she dropped Ammy and was downed herself. This horror lasted for five hours. Five sisters, including Mother Estelle, are seriously injured. Three more got some minor wounds. And poor Doyle is dead. Where those animals are coming from in such big packs, and why are they so mad? This question, I guess, I must address to the creator of this Rimworld!

DOYLE'S FUNERAL
Death is like a pair of glasses which can change our vision. You look at someone and many feelings fill your heart concerning this person, good or bad, but as soon as this person dies, everything changes. You still may cry about your loss, or even be glad about your enemy's death, but the fact that this person is not in this world anymore calms down and softens every thought concerning him/her. Doyle did not like me for some reason. A year ago, we even got in fight, but our Relationship Improving Mining Trip (which is still running with another shift – it is unbelievable how long it takes!) helped me a lot. I defeated my anger that time despite she kept abusing me, and I did not react at this kid seriously; poor Doyle, she was only 18, Space Refuge, and she spent in the Convent a little less then one year. She had to become a nun tomorrow! What a fate! We buried her next to Sister Ash at our Sister's Cemetery. Two sarcophagi next to Brother Snay inside the Convent are prepared for Mother Estelle and Sister Albina: there will be Three Founders Memorial. It is raining today, and Mother Estelle is still at the hospital.

ASCETIC'S REPENTANCE
We have just received a call from Sister Larussa: Rush defeated the plague and she wants to return to the Convent. Death is not only changing our vision but looking in its eyes may change your heart! It seems like finally Rush humbled herself and the rebellious ascetics chapter has been finished. The price thought we must pay for understanding some things is often very high: Emma is dead, and nothing can return her now. They are going to bring her remains to be buried at the Sister's Cemetery: Mother Estelle insisted on that. They are also bringing a prisoner from Orange Mesa, who attacked them a few days ago and was captured. Also, she said they are bringing a bunch of Chickens, which joined them yesterday. They are going to leave as soon as Berro, - this is the name of the imprisoned woman, - feels better after she was beaten up by Sister Larussa when she wanted to escape last night.

SIGN FROM THE SKY
We all got very scared today! A huge tornado visited our Convent. It came from the North, making our northern turrets disappear, destroyed two benches in the Prosthetics Lab and then went straight to the grave of Brother Snay. It destroyed his sarcophagus and gently placed his holy remains right there on marble flagstone. After that the tornado turned back North-East, damaged two cells and faded away. Everyone was amazed by this mysterious visitation. All the sisters got in the line to venerate the holy remains of Brother Snay, the founder of Whiterock Order, and Mother Estelle said that this was not just a simple tornado; this was a reminder for all of us about our high calling in this Rimworld. Since the old slate sarcophagus was destroyed, Mother Estelle first, from the fullness of her feelings, wanted to make a new sarcophagus out of gold. But Sister Candice accurately reminded her how, according to her very words, modest and non-acquisitive Brother Snay was. "Yes, yes, - repeated Mother Estelle in disarray, - we will make it from silver... not, we will make it from jade." And we saw how tears started to run down her cheeks. It was a very unusual day!

UNCONVENTIONAL SOLUTION
Sisters Larussa and Rush had problems with carrying the remains of Emma to the Convent. It is more then five days trip and Emma's weight was too much for them to lift up. They were trying to tame an alpaca, but there was no success with it. Mother Estelle was asking if someone wants to go and deliver them a muffalo, when Sister Candice said: "Why should we lose so much time? Let's just send them a muffalo in transport pod. Everyone was shocked at first by such unconventional thought, and then we started to discuss it; we did not even know if a muffalo will fit in transport pod. Finally, we decided to try it, but the muffalo got scared and did not want to go inside the pod. And then Sister Ayana lifted it up and carried all the way to the Starport area; I have never thought she is so strong! Muffalo fitted in the pod perfectly and soon it was already at their camp. I can't stop wondering how smart those intellectuals are! Especially Sister Candice: she seems to be the smartest one.

INVETERATE BRAGGART
For his uselessness Brother Aaron was appointed to lead a caravan delivering all that steel they got at the mining site. Every day he was going back and forth with our twenty-three mufallos and they had so much steel that he had made four trips already and there is still more left. Every time he showed up at the Convent he told us those stories about his exploits. This time it was about the raid they had yesterday. "My perfect sniper shot determined the outcome of the fight, - he was boasting. – They were approaching from the North and my bullet crushed the torso of the leading pirate. After he slumped on the ground they did not have any chances..." We were unloading his muffalos and I was surprised that being incapable of dumb labor he was unloading heavy chunks of steel. "What is the difference?" – I asked him. "A huge difference, - he replied. – Caravanning is different from just hauling: it is in my head, psychological stuff." I did not want to upset him, but in my opinion it's just a bullshit: if you can load and unload a muffalo, why can't you help your brothers with carrying stuff? Finally I accepted a judging thought that he is just a malingerer.

CATASTROPHIC FAIL
Finally Rush and Larussa returned to the convent. Rush was coming to every sister asking forgiveness for her prideful attitude. She was saying that Emma's death will always be like a stone on her heart. At the same time the remains of Lidia were brought from the mining site and both bodies were buried on Sister's Cemetery. The final load of steel was delivered, and the mining site was finally closed. It took a year and a half to mine out and deliver everything from there. Now all the brothers are back at the Monastery. This was the first time Louise had to meet Abbot Ralph after that scandal with Ayana. Surprisingly, Abbot Ralph did not seem angry at the Brotherhood Meeting. He only announced the decision made at the Annual Meeting about one-year repentance period for Loise and about minimalizing contacts with sisters, and everyone thought that was it. But in a few days a tragedy happened. A new bionic hand made by me was delivered to the Monastery and it was going to be installed to Louise in replacement of the lost one. But nobody could say how it happened that Brother Susumu undertook to install it. At the mining site he was appointed as a doctor temporarily, but his doctoring skills were minimal. Long story short the operation failed catastrophically: they end up cutting off his whole arm. And evil tongs speak that it was done by the secret blessing of Abbot Ralph as a punishment for Louis' fall. But I do not believe it. Abbot is a tuff man, but to do something like that... Now I am going to make a bionic arm for Louis and install it myself this time.

TRIBAL FLOOD
I woke up in the Hospital with a terrible pain throughout all my body and gradually I started to remember what happened. We got a call from a chased refuge Alla and, as usually, Mother Estelle offered her our protection; with her the number of sisters at the Convent was raised to twenty. No one expected the scale of what happened right after that. Twenty-eight (!) tribal warriors screaming like crazy showed up approaching our East defenses. Soon though they were divided into two groups: only six people kept moving towards us and the rest of them went around the mountain to our North defenses. We've regrouped. And in a moment the sound of our firing turrets echoed through the Convent. I went to the northern door but there were so many of them that during all the massacre I did not dare to open the door. Only after I heard the sound of their retreat I opened it hoping to chase the escapees. This was my mistake. As soon as I opened the door, five of them attacked me, because apparently, instead of safely retreating north, they decided to flee through the Convent, towards their enemies! Who can understand those tribespeople? Anyway, they started kicking me with their feet and hands so that soon I was downed and lost my consciousness. Later I was told that all of them were killed. Out of all that crowd six were captured and seventeen were dead. Uh... I must be more careful, otherwise, this journal may end too soon!

INCENDIARY TRAPS
After the last Infestation we decided to place an incendiary trap in every cave at the Cryptosleep Hall mountain. Behold yesterday, after one year sharp, we got another Infestation (as if those insectoids stick to some kind of yearly schedule). The Hives spawned at 8:00 and almost immediately the small caves were full of them. Soon we heard the explosion; this was a trap installed in the cave where only one Hive spawned. Another cave with three Hives remained untouched all day until 20:00! The insectoids were able to get out into Cryptosleep Hall and started to ruin outside walls and doors. All that time they were coming back for food, walking over the trap, which did not want to trigger for twelve (!) hours. Finally, it did trigger, and the remaining Hives went on fire. The temperature went very high and insectoids little by little were downed by heatstroke. In the morning, when it started to cool down, Kate sneaked inside and threw a bottle of Molotov in the downed pile of them. This way we had to only repair outside walls and doors: the traps did their work very well. Now Larussa is working on even better plan of mixing incendiary traps with piles of wood for more fire and even higher temperatures. The only one piece of news overshadowed this victory: at the same time there was a raid at the Monastery and Brother Victor was killed. Aaron said he was outside collecting the marble chunks when pirates suddenly showed up nearby. The bionic arm for Louis is ready and tomorrow I am going with Aaron to the Monastery for its installation.

PERFECT FIT
I came with Brother Aaron to the Monastery a couple days ago and the bionic arm installation for Louis went well. Now he is the fastest man in our community both in movement and manipulation. And today we have a "gift": Poison Ship Part landed inside the Monastery walls in a narrow passage fitting very tightly in there. It felt down from the sky like ten feet from Brother Bill, who was cloud watching. What is funny, it did not disturb him, he kept watching the clouds until we punched him in the side. I wish I would have such a nerve! We decided to build a little wall blocking the entrance to the Monastery yard and then hit it with Molotov. Will see if this will work...

SAFE DISTANCE
Last time when a Ship Part landed near the Monastery, brothers were trying to install an EMP trap right next to it and as soon as they started the installation, mechanoids came out of the Ship. This time Brother Troy started to build granite wall a step away from it and the same thing happened. It is difficult to say what exactly disturbs them, the noise or the vibrations, but now we know that not only direct attack of a Ship Part or any activity at the closest proximity makes them to come out but building even one step away disturbs them. Next time we should try two steps away to find out the safe distance. Anyway, two Scythers showed up and melee attacked Troy, who was able to sneak away from them in panic and hide in a hear by cell. The third mechanoid came out on opposite side and was trapped in the tiny space between Ship and Monastery wall. It was a Centipede. To get to it we had to destroy the Scythers first (which we did in seconds) and then to destroy the Ship Part itself. After that was done, Brother Orin was able to stun it with EMP grenade and soon it was down. Some of the brothers got minor wounds mostly from friendly fire in that turmoil. Besides that, everything went very well. After lunch I am going to return to the Convent with Kit (a tribeswoman prisoner) and with Aaron, who will deliver to us another load of Mabel Blocks for our sidewalks. It was nice to see all the brothers and Monastery growing.

OUR PLANS VS PROVIDENCE
I am back at the Convent returning to my main obedience – building the Space Ship. The Starport is ready and we finished four main Structural Beams and the Sensor Cluster. All research is finished, it took much less time than we expected. Now we are waiting for Advanced Components which are being done by Ayana. Fifteen were used for Sensor and now she is almost done with twenty for Ship Reactor. And then we will need one hundred and ten more for the rest of the Ship. We don't even have enough of simple Components, so it will take some time. Brother Victor can't get out of my head. I attended his funerals at the Monastery and I keep thinking about his desire and excitement about getting a bionic leg. I remember how he came up with that idea about getting an AI Persona Core and how those wild Labradors bit him. He was very positive and enthusiastic guy and I kind of miss him. He never got his bionic part: very often we make our own plans, but providence has its own plan for all of us. I am curious about what its plan regarding me sometimes. And I am afraid of casting lots when the Ship is done. I find it frightening to leave this Rimworld, which became our home, and go to the unknown and unpredictable Glitterworld. What if I will be one of the chosen twelve? I am horrified even by thinking about it...
