[1.0] Sun Lights

A very bright sun lamp designed to be mounted on a wall. Only consumes 10W, so it probably uses full-spectrum LEDs. Good for growing crops indoors year-round.

Fully save compatible. Please report any errors.

Great concept but I have some questions.
Whats the radius?
Whats the light intensity?
Would there be a point to a heated variant?
Would there be a version for the unstable?

Here are the exact specs:
<overlightRadius>30</overlightRadius> (I'm not completely sure what this does other than make it sunlight quality)
<glowRadius>30</glowRadius>

QuoteWould there be a point to a heated variant?
I haven't made a heated one, but I'm thinking about making a space heater that is quite overpowered, just to experiment. One that could heat the entire greenhouse by itself. I haven't made one yet, but I assume it can be done.

QuoteWould there be a version for the unstable?
Sorry, I haven't started using the unstable version yet. I've been busy making stand-alone mods for all the tweaks I made to my B18 game, in case other people would like them also. But, this is the last of the mods I've made for B18, so I could start trying B19 soon.  :)

If I read correctly that lamp illuminates 30 tiles in a single path.  Vanilla sunlamp should be something like 5 or 6 in radius but I havnt looked at the actual code so I am unaware of the real number
Someone with more knowledge on this should be able to correct me tho

Glow radius of 30 should mean that it will light up a circle 60m across - that is huge.

Yep. I was wanting to have a clear roof like a greenhouse would have so during the day, when the plants were growing, they would have full sunlight. But, I couldn't figure out how to make clear roofing, so I just settled on this because it was quick and easy.

It actually maxes out the distance a lamp can project light, so the edges of the lit area are square, not round.

This is the actual max distance a lamp can project light. The light source is there in the middle (where the green thing is) and so you can see the boundaries, as well as the fact that the light is not centered in the projection radius. This is with a glow radius of 100 so you can see the boundaries clearly. I just updated the mod on steam so that both the glowRadius and overlightRadius are now both 100, since at 30, the edges of the glow were not fully lit visually (even though they still provided enough sunlight (51% or more) to grow plants.)

Vanilla is around 50w per tile so an LED version would be maybe 1w per tile.
My point is re balancing it so it is more reasonable lol
Code example of clear roofing would be dubs skylights.  I don't think they can be used under a mountain so a lamp would be a suitable alterative

Yes, and fiber optic lighting systems can provide totally natural sunlight without electricity deep inside a building or mountain, so I suppose a version could be made with a fiber optic cabling system that would collect light outside of the mountain and deliver it into the mountain, in the same way this system does: Fiber Optics for Daylighting (https://www.buildinggreen.com/blog/fiber-optics-daylighting) But, I don't know how to make a custom cable that transmits light, so I just settled for this.

Back on topic.  I was trying to suggest lowering the illumination range to match vanilla or some form of custom one.
Ask Sk8er for some pointers since he did a really good job with his cultivator sunlamp lol

On a different note I have been waiting forever for a wall mounted sunlamp.

To talk about the fiber optic cables that would be interesting and would decently expand the modding options for people but till you get better just use a solar panel to generate power.

Sounds good!

I wonder if I could somehow make a mod setting for it so each person could set the wattage and radius for their game? I've never done that before, but it'd be neat to do. I bet you can't do it without a dll or some kind of more complicated programming than the cut & paste I'm doing.

Hmm Sk8er might be able to help there but worse case just ask kiame or roolo if they have any advice.
I dont think either of them touched on the sunlamps but its something most people don't really look at.

I've finished a vanilla quality wall mounted sun lamp. It's here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1497057340

Hope you like it.

Long as the power usage is significantly lower then the vanilla sunlamp it should be fine.
You did mention it was supposed to be some form of LED light right.  A max consumption of 290w is fitting I think.
Havnt tried it but using the normal one from the workshop.

Oh ok, 290W it is.

This is a cheat lol, and the balanced version isn't balanced. I like the concept though, each square in vanilla is 19w of power for a sunlamp.

Could you drop a non-steam link for your Balanced [1.0] Version?
