Title: [1.0.2059][Linux] Middle mouse click panning jumps around randomly
Post by: ODDizee on October 19, 2018, 05:11:17 AM
Hello.

I've noted other topics from last year concerning this issue, which appeared to have been "solved" by a mod in Steam workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=944221458) which no longer works in the 1.0 release version.

It also appeared to be a Unity issue which apparently was resolved with an update to the Unity core.

For me, this still is an issue.

Holding the middle mouse button/wheel down in order to pan the view will, at times react strangely and jump around randomly. It is impossible to accurately place the view at a desired location, without releasing the middle mouse button and trying again, often with similar results.

I try to attach copy of Player.log which appeared to have been generated when running RimWorldLinux.x86_64 from the terminal.

I have tried things like disabling secondary monitor, starting new game, verifying the game cache, using nvidia_settings to check monitors are syncing properly (both the same), not really sure where to turn right now.

Below are system specs as per Steam's System Information. I would like to thank you for any attention.

The linked mod wouldn't be a bad reference when fixing this; he explained the Unity issue well.

Hi there.

I wondered if anyone had managed to reproduce this or, kind of what might be happening.  I sure would appreciate an update  :)

I've tried everything I can think of so far to look at, I'd be rather embarrassed at this point if it turned out to be something on my end, but it would be good to know.

I can't think of another time it happened with another software. It's probably not particularly relevant but the most recent Unity game I can think of playing using a similar function is AI War 2 which seems fine.. and if you are familiar for example with Blender 3D, it makes heavy use of middle mouse by default and it has always been OK.. I understand it's not quite the same thing though of course.

It's rather spoiling my enjoyment of the game, to the point I just haven't been playing.  I try to use WASD to move but it's not the same  :-\

I understand everyone must be busy and such, I hope you are all doing well.

Bye!

Hi ODDizee,

It's definitely a problem, I reported this a while ago:
https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=42875.msg422617#msg422617

At the time I also pinged the 1.0 feedback topic, because many players were reading it.
There were about 5 confirmations, mostly from people who blamed their mouse. :)

And yes, it is pretty annoying.

Oh.. OK, Brainsample. Thanks.

I did spend some time testing my mouse and making sure I wasn't scrolling whilst clicking or something like this but I don't think it is.. in any case it is working for all other cases - I gave example of Blender which is using middle mouse constantly.

I hope it's possible to nail down what causes it.

I suppose if there is any silver lining is I have some other games to play whilst I wait but I would like to play this one without any hangups. It runs great otherwise.. far as I can tell.

Cheers now. Be well!   :)

at least for me it only happened with my logitech G pro, my best guess is that it has something to do with its polling rate
