Would it be possible to create a mod (or does there one exist) where colonists automatically forage berry bushes if they exist, instead of having to tell them to do so? Also, putting down their own beds (under cover, if one exists) and even building their own place?

You can put a farm tile under a berry bush and forbid planting. This way it gets autoharvested.

Don't forget to build a campfire and cook a simple meal instead to eat raw food.
Place table and stools instead to eat on ground.
Sorry but such task belong to you, you are their babysitter or overseer. The pawn's are stupid.
But the colony manager mod can mark food plant for harvesting until x amount, hunt animals until x or chop trees until x.
And could assist your in the way to lead the colony.
