Title: Rimworld Will not Launch properly
Post by: Burgerguys on October 16, 2019, 09:49:36 PM
Rimworld continually will not launch properly and ends up showing this screen. I am on a computer that meets all system requirements and this is my first time attempting to launch on this machine.

Thank you for uploading your output.

Have you tried the usual? Reinstalling and such?

The rimworld installation looks fine.
But there is some trouble for Rimworld to find the right video card.
It try to use your onboard Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 while you got for directx aticfx64.dll which indicate an AMD card.

Yeah the laptop has 2 video cards, the Intel and an AMD Radeon HD 8790M. I bought the laptop this was and am no the most tech savvy. are you saying that the game is struggling to find the right graphics card? how can I fix this?

I never got a mashine with 2 card's lately, so my expierence are low.
If you don't use the intel one at all, maybe try to deactivate it at the BIOS.
When you can't find such entry at the BIOS maybe read this link

Ofcouse you can go straight for the window's solution, whatever works.

========== END OF STACKTRACE ===========

**** Crash! ****

Are you using something called 'game overlay renderer'? What might that be? It might be crashing your game.

These calls also look a bit weird to me: "AmdQueryPowerXpressDeviceInfo".

What I can say is it looks like something in your graphics card setup, drivers, or added software is crashing the game. I recommend updating those graphics card drivers and removing other software that might be messing with the game. You could try running the EXE outside Steam as well to see if it works.

I thought so, which is why I'd try running the EXE outside of Steam.

Hey I just attempted to download the game on my laptop after visiting the main website instead of seeing and I cannot get the game on my laptop and I've tried reinstalling it and send emails but I have no idea what to do. If possible I'd like a refund so I can by the game from Steam instead.
