I have a single pawn with no pack animals in caravan and although the pawn has the Circadian half-cycler, it is still resting at night.
To reproduce, install Circadian half-cycler on a pawn and send them on a caravan trip that takes at least 24hrs. You will notice the pawn stop to rest.
