But I have some doubts too. The reason for roofs? I don't think it necessary.
Ok, at first you need to live a year without roof yourself below free sky, befor you say a roof isn't necessary !
You should just be happy that you don't need resources to build roofs, and that they are build pretty fast.

Has your colony burned down yet? Roofs make more sense with regards to fire. Also toxic fallout and deteroration of things in general.
