Title: Mod Suggestion - Battle Simulation Mode
Post by: xhwzth1215 on December 17, 2020, 02:10:21 PM
Hi guys, I've posted about this idea a while ago in general but no one responded so I decided to try my luck in the moding section. Basically I think it would be pretty fun to have a way of sit back, relax, and watch a simulated battle unfold in Rimworld. It seems to be really hard to do in the base game, even when using mods such as no fleeing allowed or faction/character editor. It would be great if there can be a clear cut way of customizing and playing a battle directly, either just for fun, or to test out performance of weapons, armor, implants and their combinations.
Any suggestion of how that might be achieved is welcomed! I'm only a player not a modder so I'm not sure if it is really hard to do, since there is yet no mod out there which does that.

Why you just use the dev tools and spawn some raids with points ? :-)

Well this only gives me very limited control over the different aspects in a battle, plus since I need to control my colonists it wouldn't be a battle between AIs. I wonder if there's a way to easily designate two groups of pawns as enemies. Or if this isn't possible, at least get pawns to fight each other like a battle royale death match situation.

For instance in the following youtube video:

I wonder what mods and dev tools are used in there, anyone has any ideas?

I've done this before, actually!

First thing you wanna do (obvious as it is :p) is to get yourself a savegame you aren't gonna miss, then take a quick look at the faction relations for your world.

The rest is simple: using devtools, spawn raids/pawns of opposing factions, (can't remember the vanilla relations but pirates + ancients should be a safe bet!) and you're good to go, takes a bit of interaction but it's the closest ive gotten to hands-off combat.

p.s: Can't remember what it's called, but there's a devtool which directly spawns a small map of two opposing factions. It's not very grand or magnificent, more of a barroom brawl than a large-scale battle, but hey! if you're looking for something smaller, might be right up your alley. Hope you find what you're looking for! ;D
