Continued to run game after screen turned grey and I got repeated errors until I was unable to interact with the UI of Rimworld at all and had to close the game externally.

Hi,
since prison labor show at the error message, you should try it first to put Prison labor at the end of the modlist or right after hugslib.
Just to check if that helps.
If not you should try to ask at the mod discussion of prison labor.
Alright thank you! Oddly enough Prison Labor was already after Hugslib and I didn't expect it to work but the screen actually turned grey right when I loaded the save upon removing the Prison Labor mod.
