Get the rimworld textures from there
and once you've downloaded it you can
find the background image in the folder UI/HeroArt/BGPlanet.png
It's lacking the Rimworld logo from the picture though, but =P
oh well it's not hard to copy paste it in!

Edit: I mean you even got the Storyteller mugshots in there! you can make your very own rimworld wallpaper with real ease!

so i could in theory draw a new "picture" replace the file and get a new load in screen? hrmmm time for some rimworld art!

Yes! you could
You'll just need to create coupla folders in the 'Core' mod first
So the game knows where to pick your image for it
So if you were to make your own background image you'd have to
go in the Core folder in the mods and open the Textures folder
and create new folder called UI in there and another folder inside the new UI
called HeroArt
and then place the png file there and it has to be named BGPlanet
