let me be honest, the first season was a bit mediocre but the second season's taboo-breaking "boldness" totally blew me away!
my opinion of season 2 was like The Game of Thrones meet Firefly. (i just wish they have the same level of "sexy times" as game of thrones)
anyways, here's a short list of my fave characters :
* Stahma Tarr was like a hot albino-geisha Cersei Lanister
* Joshua Nolan was like Nathan Fillion meets Hugh Jackman's Wolverine
* Datak Tarr was like Batiatus from Spartacus meets The Godfather
* Meh Yewll was like a bald alien lesbian albino lizard meets Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
* Berlin was a totally sassy and hot voyeur
* Niles reminds me of Norrington in Pirates of the Carribean
* the junkie former mayor, the prostitute sister, the alien-cosplay bride, etc..
Defiance have some really interesting characters in it's roster. wish season 3 would start soon.
anyways, i've kinda started playing the Defiance MMO. it plays a bit like Borderlands 2 (which is awesome), i also like their vehicles system and the arkfalls.. (i just wish they'd make the major arkfall much longer and more epic)

it feels like a good successor to the cancelled Firefly..
(but i still miss Summer Glau sometimes..) ;D
I watch the show and season 2 was certainly enjoyable. One of my favorite moments was the shouting match between Stahma and Datak in the silo.
I haven't played the mmo yet, is it any good?
I dropped watching it sometime during the first season
I might have to reconsider now, if the second season is as good as you say!
ofcourse once I recall where I was left with it..
I really dislike watching things more than once for some reason

the story missions are kinda short, even if you include all of the sidequests.
there's not much need to grind. since good shooting skills, planning your load-outs, and choosing the right weapons for the right situation is more important than gaining new levels.
gameplay-wise, the controls are fun as well as the vehicles. reminds me a lot of borderlands.
with enough skills, you can just breeze through the game so much that it feels more like a shooter/RPG than an MMO.
sometimes it's fun to just join in on arkfall events and sieges along with dozens of random people. but it eventually gets repetitive..
anyways, the story delved more on the EGO-implant backstories as you interact with some of nolan's former military comrades, some arkfall terraforming backstories, lulzing at that dweeb Von Bach, ninety-niners, dark matter, etc.. basically some stuff they haven't introduced much yet in the TV series..
probably worth a good few days or a week's playthrough.. until they release new mission episodes.
just think of it as a "free" borderlands game that has a tie-in to the Defiance tv series,
like a preview and backstory of things to come in the show, something like that.
