Hey everyone, I thought I'd start a thread about hobbies anyone has. I searched for a similar topic but found nothing.
Now other then playing countless hours of rum world or any other games what do you do with your spare time? I race cars on dirt oval tracks in southern Ontario l, western New York and even Quebec. I've raced for 9 years now, in Ohio, Pennsylvania ", North carolina, and Florida. My dad and I love doing it.
So what are your hobbies? Anything from chess, to comic con, to hunting. Let's hear it. Pictures if possible too!
Inforgraphics, Photomanipulation poster art digital/"traditional" art, and graphic design in general =P (Jack of all trades when it comes to graphic design (a.k.a master of none) although Infographics is my strongest point! <-which is pretty much what Rimworld artstyle is all about)
I could spaaaaaaaaaaam tons of pictures for you from the depths of my folders but I 'll go with just these two
Both of these are from the time when I studied the subject (watercolor panda -> all about the use of the opposite colours) and the other one is just practise of digital enhancing/coloring (the drawing was part of those "draw something relevant to the subject in 2 hours")
The picture has toooons of problems in regards to the 'golden lines' and 'balance' and general 'not-quite-knowing-where-to-stopitis' but let's not get stuck to that shall we!
Woooo, those are amazing!! You have a gift my friend
My hobbies that I currently do are:
Playing the Better Than Wolves Minecraft Mod.
Doing theatre stage sound and lighting for my local theatre.
Learning to fly a quadcopter
What I used to do and would like to get back into:
Medieval combat reenactment.
Play DoTA2, reading warhammer 40k books(just started) just finished Eisenhorn, now reading Ravenor. And fiddling around with my coding skills. (Which is totally entree level)..
:D dont have special skills but used to have a band.. :P
My hobby? Rimworld! :P
Pretty much any series that has 'star' in it's name I've probably watched and/or watching it now and can you go wrong with the games?
Rollplaying!

Hunting/Shooting
Rimworld
Modding Rimworld
Learning new programming languages
I'd love to learn how to code! But have no idea where to even start. Any suggestions?
And role playing is pretty cool!
I do my own web-comic. However, I cant draw very well so I use stick figures in Paint.net for the artwork. Would be nice to find someone else who can draw so I can focus on writing.
Comic is called Losers In Denial http://www.smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=94496

Good storyline, but I think of you very differently now...
How so?
Well for one, I hope I am considered friend if we get sranded on a Rimworld. I wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of Jimmy's antics. ;)
Funny thing is, the main group is all based on my friends and i from high-school. We are all very much like that in real life. All the guns I have at the beginning of the comic, I actually have. I even have a Lee-Enfield! Ive got a bunch more script done but Id really like to rework the art assets. Something of a higher quality but easier to put together.

MLE? MKI? MKIII?
I like guns. Hence my 1st hobby in my list.
Not sure what model, post WW1, heavily fired, the barreling is all stripped out so the bullets tumble, I shot a box and the bullet hole was sideways. Still neat to have and shoot but so very loud. Got an older pump action shotgun for skeet shooting and aliens when they show up.
I might just get around to redoing the art assets this weekend and getting back into doing the comic. its been 3 months and i shouldnt be so lazy with it.
Finally getting back into the art assets. Would be nice if someone here wanted to just draw everything for me lol
Ive got one more new piece to work out before i can do the next comic. Meaning, Ive done one of my cats, now to do the other.
My current hobby is making a chainmail shirt as a gift for someone who does livestreams of DnD that I frequently watch. I'm several hours in and probably have at least 60-70 more hours to go.
Suddenly my work in paint doesnt seem so tedious. Wow.

Tell me about it, I've rough estimated that the shirt will require 16500 or so individual rings, which ALL need opening and closing by hand, and it's mostly boring and tedious work 95% of the time and then 5% absoloutely mind boggling working things out. I do have a WIP album (which will be updated slowly as it progresses) if anyone is interested.
Dear god, now that's some dedication.
Here's one I made earlier (quite literally) http://imgur.com/2jGYY27 Took me around 100 hours spread over a few months to make.
This one has about 14,000 rings, the newer shirt will have more because the person I'm making it for is a fair bit taller than I am.
And what TV shows or Movies do you watch in the background while you do this? When I paint my Warhammer 40k army I always have something in the background. Usually Red vs Blue or Archer or The Simpsons

Random ones, usually sci fi, when I made the previous shirt, I went through the Entirety of Babylon 5. I'll be looking for something simlarly lengthy, possibly Farscape or Andromeda or Enterprise. Though I do have a few full series of some fantasy ones if I need that inspiration, Xena, Hercules, Merlin, Legend of the Seeker.
Also, as it happens, I just so happen to be a huge 40K nerd, more the lore side than the painting side, since I managed to break my plastic crack habit. So much so that I'm considering even doing a Rimworld game with Prepare Carefully and making a group of colonists based on the Tanith First.
B5 is awesome, season 2 3 4 are my faves. Farscape is awesome. Ive got bookcases full of 40k stuff. Tanith, Horus Heresy, pretty much everything published before last year. Not in the mood to read much of it these days but i will get back into it. I loved the Kal Jerhico stuff, and other Necromunda books.

Much the same here, Ravenor, Eisenhorn, Ghosts, Ciaphas Cain, these are a few of my favourite things. I've also got a couple of WHF books, notably the Genevievé trilogy and All the books in the Gotrek & Felix series up to Zombieslayer (12 books in all) Have too many 40k books to count though. Probably maybe 70% of BL's published ones.
Cain yes, awesome stuff. Nothing of the WHF though. Ive also got a lot of the old out of print stuff like the last chancers and the really early stuff.
btw my gallery here has some of my painted stuff http://jimmyagent007.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=72

Couple of bits of advice:
Use washes/shades, they'll really make a difference. Nuln oil for metal, Seraphim Sepia for your golds (or agrax earthshade), Agrax earthshade is also good for plenty, like faces, but usually you want to use the closest colour shade to what you're painting on. Then after that go over again either with the base colour, leaving the recesses with the shade, and then highlight with a slightly lighter colour, or just highlight or just go over with the base coat. Using shades will make your models pop and stand out more.
Thin your paints a bit more, especially the white, while it will take more layers to get a smooth coat, it looks much better.
For painting white, assuming you start with a basecoat of black, 3-4 layers of a thinned down grey or Ushabti Bone, then 3-6 layers of slightly thinned down skull white. Shading with Serpia or osmething or even agrax as long as you cover properly.
Those are just bits of advice based on what I've seen of your pictures.
I didnt really know how to do washes when i started, I fully intend to give my whole army a go over with them once they are all painted. I do get impatient about white and red taking so many damn layers so i layer them on thick. I also like the stark clean contrast between the colours so i dont generally like mixing or washing in the first place. My main concern when i paint is that they dont look like a single colour overload like ALL the other SM armies, Ultras are too much blue and so on.

Yeah, Red Yellows and white are a pain to do, but putting them on in thin layers, whilemore work, ends up looking much much nicer than slapping it on. Using washes won't alter the contrast between the colours, but it will make the colours pop and bring out the detail on the recesses and textured parts etc. As long as you don't slap ona ridiculous amount of shade, they'll look much better than without the wash, especially metallic parts and the faces etc.
i agree now, just when i started i didnt think so. Tested it with my lost and damned figures you can see, the bone bits were washed with black and the eyes were washed with the snot green.
as for the other stuff, not sure id want to have part of my army looking drastically different from the rest, so i might just use thinner layers, tho i find putting a layer of chainmail under the white helps a lot.
