whenever you download from send owl link the number of allowed downloads goes down. When an update is release does the number go back up?
the dev said so yeah.
Well with today's update, I can say it did not go back up.
Which version didn't go up? Windows or all of them?
I just hit the reset button again, can you check once more?
Windows, still only has 2 attempts remaining for me.
just to clarify, im unsure of the others as i didnt d/l them, but the prototype pack didnt reset also (though not sure if its meant to) but i would assume this means none of them are reseting.
I can also confirm the download counter did not reset. I'm on Mac so after today's update my Mac client download has 2 downloads left.
Okay. I'll address this. Thanks.

I download only Windows and it didn't go up, i can download only 2 times more.
I've done all I can see to do on my end with no luck. I've sent a flash priority request to SendOwl to take a look. Will keep looking into this. Sorry to all who are affected (those at 0 downloads). I hope there aren't too many.
i have suggestion - maybe different download service
Too bad steam doesn't support exclusive releases :/ Then he could release it to the people who paid for early access on steam
My download counts ALL go up by 1, since i downloaded 250 once for windows, it's natural i get 4,4,3,4 as my new download options. I don't see a problem here.
I can confirm this happened to me as well (on Windows).
With the text file before release, I had 5 downloads. Downloaded that, so all release files were with 4 downloads left.
Downloaded the Linux release and prototype pack, both down to 3.
Downloaded the Linux update, down to 2.
Mine's showing correctly - I've got 4 downloads on the things I haven't downloaded, and 3 on the ones I have. :)
Yeah, I'm at 4, 4, 2, 4, after downloading 250 & 254 (Windows).
2,2,2,3 on my links after 254
I recommend another download service, maybe a spot on this site where only certain tiers can access the download links. im a web designer if you would like any more details.
4434 here, I'm good
Receive email now, with an Update ... go to the Page and see: 5, 5, 3, 5 every File is gone up by 1.

If Tynan wanted i've seen them release beta codes to allow only people with the codes to download the game.
Ah, with the new 254b build all my downloads got +1.
Still, pretty strange system. Can't wait for a Desura version.
Sorry to say I've got the same problem, down to 2 downloads remaining on SendOwl, having downloaded the Mac version. I understand it's being worked on, thanks in advance.

Actually steam does. You can add your game to steam and release various updates for it before even going live. People who have the steam keys for your game can download and play even if you're not live.
Project Zomboid has been running from steam for the past few months, both in regular and beta variants. Lets just say they had a lot of bugs to iron out.

This would work fine on Steam. Just give keys out to the people who qualify for early access.
I have got the same error. 5,5,2,4. I downloaded the prototype pack once, and the versions 250, 254 and 254b. The counter didn't go up. Thanks for looking into it. ;)
It actually just resets in a weird way where it can go above the maximum, which confuses people as to what the maximum was. Don't worry too much, it is working.

i think it would make some security problems (which might be the origin of this download / timers in the origin)
(if it guess up to 5 at each update that should be enough i think, hope it is not painful for Tynan to request ...) then at the final release hopefully there will be a simpler system to release ...

Limited downloads are a form of Digital Restriction Mechanism, and therefore render software Defective By Design.
I can understand that Tynan uses such a system in the beginning, just because it's easy, but really, I hope eventually RimWorld will be available on Desura, and, as usual, without any need for Digital Restriction Mechanisms. Because good games don't need them (and bad ones don't have any use for them, either.).
I'm also having the same problem. I was actually a little taken aback when I saw there were download limits. I would recommend you seriously reconsider using a system to restrict downloads. If it's a bandwidth issue, use mirrors, or a peer-to-peer protocol in addition to the regular downloads. People who will pirate will just download them from elsewhere. Accept that it will happen, and realize there is no way to restrict it in any meaningful way. Any attempts at doing so will, at best, inconvenience those who have supported you so far.
Realize that most people will want to buy your game if it's any good, and think of piracy as another way to increase exposure of the game, like radio, or YouTube. As others have said, you may want to consider releasing on Desura (and GOG once it's ready for debut). While it's true these platforms will take a cut of the profits, the exposure generated could be worth it.

Desura is also a form of DRM.
the goal is that in the long run there will be a launcher with an auto updater

Nope, unlike Steam, Desura is a shop. It doesn't have any DRM included, you just buy a game and afterward can play it without any interaction with Linden Labs. Desura is agnostic towards Digital Restriction Mechanisms. If you have a game with DRM on Desura, then those are restrictions from the game developer, not Desura.

Ah. My mistake, sorry! PM'd you a question regarding it to avoid any further derailing.
If you run out of attempts (you'll start with 5) for your copy, please just email me and I can reset it for you.
