Based on your input I should add more GPUs to the issue. I need more information, though. Could everyone with issues on Ubuntu add their precise GPU model, whether you are using open-source or binary driver and your compressed Player.log please?
Here is info regarding my "Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) 64-bit (linux 3.2.0-55-generic), with Gnome 3.4.2, GPU: Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics" laptop. The ZIP-file has information extracted with commands "glxinfo" and "lshw -C display" plus Player.log -file.

I signed up to the forums a while ago but couldn't activate the account through Google Chrome, I had to use Firefox instead..
Anyone else had this or similar issues?

Or is it just me?
I had no problems with Chrome running on Linux. Just clicked the URL I got via email and it was done.

I get the message that "some stuff from your ship has landed".
So I get food, metal, and Drop Pods.
As far as I know, "drop pods" are what the other stuff are delivered with. Meaning, a "space pod" has food in it and they are dropped to the planet surface. Hence the name.

General Discussion / Re: Call for Linux/Mac testers

Linux guy here.

• What's your experience with testing systems?
I've tested some Android mods for the devs, but not much really.

• Ever used a bug tracker before? Does the Ludeon bugtracker look foreign to you or familiar?
It doesn't load, I get 404 right now from ludeon.com/bugs
I've done Ubuntu translations through Launchpad, submitted some bug here and there, so I imagine it wont be a problem.

• What OSes do you have?
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on several computers, Win7 on a desktop, EasyPeasy on a EeePC 901 and bunch of even older linuxes on even older laptops.
I don't have top tier hardware, just FYI.

• How much time do you have to test?
Can't really say for sure.
I'm a single dad, so it can be anything from 1-2 hours a week to a full weekend (if I feel up to it, that is).

I have the exact same problem on my Dell Vostro 3300
*snip*
As far as I know my graphics are also "Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics".
Your laptop has "NVIDIA GeForce 310M" graphics chip (according to this PCWorld article).

I think this is just a problem about the version of your ubuntu.
Any other Ubuntu LTS users, who chould chime in with their hardware?

Actually, my work laptop is HP 620, which has a "Intel GMA X4500 HD" graphics chip, which I could give a try.

Specs for that:
Celeron(R) Dual-Core CPU T3000 @ 1.80GHz × 2
Memory 4 GB

I managed to start a game, but it has such a band graphics glitch that I felt sick quite soon.

In the attachement you see what happens, but not that it also moves a lot, all lines start from the middle and the segments move around the screen erratically.

My laptop is old HP Compaq 6910p:
Intel® Coreâ,,¢2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz × 2
Memory 2 GB

I run Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS) 64-bit (linux 3.2.0-55-generic), with Gnome 3.4.2, but I suspect the reason might be "Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics".

Let me know what other info you might need.

Support / Re: Running, launching and installing on Linux

Found a post by Bering (see thread here), which solved my problems.

I did however delete the old files, unzip them again, set the executable bit and then wrote the script.

So, in other words, instead of double-clicking on RimWorld250Linux.x86_64, do this:

1- create an empty file
2- write these 2 lines to it, using any text editor:

#!/bin/bash
LC_ALL=C ./RimWorld250Linux.x86_64

3- right-click the new file and set its permissions to executable
4- double-click that new file to run the game

Thanks Bering, solved my problem with this!
But my game wouldn't even start.

EDIT: HerpDerp! The files are not executable when they're unzipped. You have to give the OS permission to execute them. You can either use the chmod <xxx> command from a terminal or right click on the icon and go to permissions and set it to executable.
Quote from: Shrike on November 05, 2013, 02:15:25 PMI've set the executable bit, launching from GUI does nothing and launching from command line produces some errors.

So, you got them to run like that?
Because, and I quoted myself to clarify, that did not help me. It's possible that I need to download them again, since I just downloaded all packages, threw them into DropBox for later use. Wouldn't be the first time something broke when transferring via DropBox.

Support / Running, launching and installing on Linux

Hello, first time poster here.

Just downloaded the linux version of the game, which is my main OS (for gaming I mainly use PS3, I do have a crappy Win7 box) and on which I'm not a total newbie. However, I did not manage to get the game running.  I've got an oldish HP laptop, running Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) 64-bit.

I've set the executable bit, launching from GUI does nothing and launching from command line produces some errors.

Ideas?
