This is an amazing mod! ;D My one wish is for there to be a way to remove certain backstories, since a few of them (particularly the backer-created ones) are more annoying than anything. It's easy enough to skip over them, but it wastes time and you can't stop them from showing up in colonists you recruit after you've started the game.

Probably impossible though, especially since it'd be a bit rude to people who backed the game early, so Tynan's probably put a little effort in to making sure it's not easy to remove them. Great mod nonetheless, I don't know how I lived before discovering it.

Help / Is there any way to mod in new backstories?
December 30, 2014, 05:46:20 PM
I've been looking through the files in the "Source" mod since I'm interested in modding some basic things into the game, and making new backstories looks like it would be an easy and fun thing to start with. Problem is, I can't figure out which file holds them, so I can't look at how they're constructed and how I could make a mod out of one. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but if I'm missing something obvious, I'd really like some help.

Ideas / Re: Improved Trade System

Yeah, Tynan seems to have coded them so that you can't earn money by buying and selling resources. That's okay for pre-alpha I guess.

I would like to see a value system like the one in DF. Money doesn't mean much in space, and value also means that different ships will pay more for a certain resource.

General Discussion / Re: Room sizes
November 08, 2013, 05:32:24 PM
I use 2 x 2 rooms with blue carpets, standing lamps, and 1 bed. I find putting carpets and smooth stone works best for my hallways, with green or red carpets in buildings themselves. Oddly enough, my prisoners have larger and nicer rooms than my colonists - they get an extra 2 squares and a flower pot.

EDIT: The gamemode you're talking about is Chill Cassie Classic. She's not that easy though, you should use blasting charges for at least one raid to get good weapons even if you want to play fair.

Are the harder difficulties that tough? I've only played Cassie so far, and the worst have had to deal with was a raid of about 8 guys with medium weapons. The only reason I mention it is because when I finished microing my soldiers I realized a fire had started in my Hydroponics. Fortunately I rushed everyone to it and put it out before it spread beyond a couple Hydroponics Tables. I'm just glad it doesn't really spread to the carpets or some of my more injured soldiers would definitely be dead - and then the fire would have continued, possibly pushing us out of Hydroponics.

Damn, I actually wish inside fires were more powerful.

Ideas / Could we have a screenshot hotkey?
November 08, 2013, 04:15:09 PM
Could we have a screenshot key like in Minecraft? The whole Print Screen thing is hard for some people to understand, and I think it would be easy to program in. Thanks in advance :).

This is currently a designed limitation of the flooring system.

Oh okay, good to know. Also, exactly how useful are the other types of floors (non-carpets)? I use smooth stone and paved tiles for outdoor travel, but I'm wondering if the stats are any good at this point in the game.

Isn't that the idea?

The story is technically about them leaving the world, but most people play it to last forever. Even Dwarf Fortress players sometimes just let the fortress run forever rather than unleash the !FUN!.

Ideas / Reactors
November 08, 2013, 01:58:46 PM
Trade ships currently sell Uranium (I think it's Uranium) and describe it as fuel for reactors. Since this is basically saying that new energy sources will be added, I came up with an idea for how they could work - and how researchers could be made more valuable.

The Nuclear Reactor would be a rather expensive but efficient reactor. It would require a reasonable amount of space (think Geothermal Reactor but a bit larger) and 1 Uranium per day (maybe more or less depending on balancing).

Every day you'd have to maintenance it or have it catch fire. The basic time spent working on it would be rather high, but this would be lowered by whoever is working on it's Research skill. This way, Level 11 researchers wouldn't be useless, and trading ships would have more importance.

Bugs / 254b - No way to remove carpets.
November 08, 2013, 01:51:48 PM
I just accidentally built green carpet rather than smooth stone. While it's not a major change (only 3 of them were placed before I noticed and cancel the order) it's really getting on my OCD, and I can't find a way to remove them. This didn't really fit into the Suggestions sub-forum so I thought I'd put it here.

General Discussion / Re: Why don't they just... escape?
November 08, 2013, 01:48:15 PM
That would kinda make the game pointless. Although it's a good point once we start getting to the point where Tynan will add a way to win. maybe they'll have to build a shuttle and then find a a willing ship? Sort of like the Cultural Victory in Civilization 5.

Now that I've calmed down from my previous rage, I'm confused.

Why would kickstarter not want you to get the paid backer list early? I mean, as long as you can get it again later for people who have paid later, why not send an updated version every day?

Maybe I'm not as patient as you are, but if you look at this from my perspective, I think you'll understand.

Last I checked, waiting to get something from Kickstarter is standard practice.  The fact he has a scheduled date for backers to receive their pre-Alpha copies is amazing.  You keep repeating the same thing, and you are told the same thing.  You are clearly offended, insulted, and feel wronged in some way, but the man has been honest, is putting money to good use, and clearly the product exists.  He is not out to make you, Kingmal, personally feel tweaked over this.

The fact that you are angry does not mean that the world is at fault.  A person can be offended by actions that are not offensive.

If you're that angry about it, go skim around and find a pirated copy somewhere.  Instead of arguing against a growing tide of people that aren't going to pat you on the back and cheer on your raging stiffy of uproarious anger, you can go wade through potential viruses on the pirate bay.  This will leave you with us content, potentially save you minutes to hours of time, or just make your computer implode upon itself.  This is not a fast food joint where if you scream loud and long enough the manager will come by and give you a free ice cream.

But in all seriousness, sucks that you're mad.  I wish we didn't have to wait, but things still look pretty chill if we wait a little while.  Relax, go open up a steam game you haven't touched in ages (if ever), and kill time.

Oh fuck you. I see your point that I'm not getting anywhere by complaining, but it seems like you're trying to compare me with a whiny kid. All I'm trying to do is say that I'm frustrated by the wait time that I was not informed of. I'm not trying to get anything for free, or early. I was just trying to get my point across - which is what forums are for, aren't they?

Kingmal, giving games free to the media is standard pr. (I worked for a gaming mag a decade ago btw, and i can tell you we didnt pay for our code, we also didt have to wait for release dates.)

Tubers with some viewers are exactly that: a PR channel that allows Tynan to raise awareness of the project without having to spend a bunch of cash on advertisements - money he probably doesnt have anyway. And remember that with how democratic the social media system is, the only thing stopping you from doing exactly the same thing and start getting free games is... yourself. You might end up noticing that it is a lot of work, though. :)

I guess so. It does seem like they aren't really popular youtubers though.

I was more angry that there's a functioning game but it's not being released. Looks like no one cares about that except me though, so I'll just wait the two weeks.
