Outdated / [MOD] Rhodes Texture Pack
November 16, 2013, 04:43:03 PM
Not sure how many people are interested in creating texture packs - I've only messed around with it to see if it was possible.
The best bet would likely be to wait until Tynan adds official support, but that could take months.

For those of you wanting to get a head start, you can read the guide in this forum for more info.
In the mean-time, I'll post any WIP and completed texture packs here.

Installation is as follows:
Browse to your RimWorld###Win_Data directory.
Rename the file resources.assets to resources.orig.assets (Backup, just in case)
Copy your downloaded texture pack into the same directory and rename it to resources.assets
Play your game!  Simple, right?

A Brighter Rimworld - by Rhodes (Completed - Was a test run to see if texturing was possible)

RimCraft - A Minecraft Texture Pack - by Rhodes (WIP - Oh, come on!  It was bound to happen..)

  • Screenshot - Still missing a lot of content. I may or may not finish this one entirely.

Help / Rimworld Texture/Sound Modding
November 15, 2013, 06:25:31 PM
Interested in creating new textures for RimWorld?  This post is here to get you started!
The process may seem complicated, but is actually quite simple!

Things you will need:

To Begin, Follow These Simple Steps:
Move UnityAssetsExplorer.exe to your Desktop
Open UnityAssetsExplorer.exe.
Click the Open Assets-file button.
Browse to your RimWorld Game Directory.
Open the RimWorld###Win_Data folder.
Highlight the assets file, resources.assets, and then Click the Open button.
Make sure the Covert TEX to DDS box is Checked
Click the Extract All button.

Excellent!  You've just extracted all the goodies and textures used to create RimWorld.

To Continue:
Minimize UnityAssetsExplorer.exe.
Go to your Desktop and open the newly created folder named resources.

You will see lots of files - most of these aren't important. However, some are very important!
The important ones are the DDS files.  If you installed the required plugins for Photoshop or Gimp, you can open these DDS files to see what textures they contain!

Using Photoshop, open the DDS file you want to modify.  For example, I opened Bed.tex.dds.
In Photoshop, I changed the color of the sheets.  I wanted a Pink bed with my name written on the blanket - so I painted it in!
After I was satisfied with my changes, I clicked Save.

Photoshop then asked me all these weird questions about dds Formats and stuff!
It was simple though.. I only had to change one selection!

If the image is a UI element: Select DXT1 from the Drop-Down List and make sure No MIP maps is selected in the MIP Map Generation box. Then click Save.

If the image is a texture: Select DXT1 from the Drop-Down List and make sure Generate MIP maps is selected in the MIP Map Generation box. Then click Save.

Note: Be sure to keep a list of which files you modified!

Once you have modified all the files you want to change, we're ready to pack them all back into the Resources.assets file and load them into our game!

Open/Focus UnityAssetsExplorer.exe.
You should still have the Resources.assets file open. If not, re-open it using the above instructions.

Depending on how many DDS files you modified, this part may take a little while. I hope you kept that list handy!

Browse through the list in UnityAssetsExplorer and highlight each file you modified. In my case, I highlighted Bed.tex.
Right-Click the Selected Item and choose Import This File from DDS.
Do this for each file you modified.
Once you have finished Importing each file, click the Save as Assets-file button.
Browse back to your RimWorld Game Directory and save the new assets file as something original.  I saved mine as resources.IheartPinkBeds.assets.

I then created a copy of my Original resources.assets file so that I wouldn't lose it.
Then, I renamed my resources.IheartPinkBeds.assets file to resources.assets

The next time I played RimWorld - All my beds were pink!  I didn't even have to start a new game!

After you modify a file (be it DDS or XML or OGG) make sure the file size remains the same as the original.  Otherwise, you could run into issues with your RimWorld loading.  You have been warned.

[EDIT]

How did I go from being all serious to the goofy ending?  This is what happens when I focus on something for more than 5 minutes...

Outdated / Rhodes Mod List
November 13, 2013, 03:09:27 PM
This is a direct modification of the Assembly-CSharp.dll created by Tynan.  The code belongs to him and should not be re-distributed anywhere - that would constitute Piracy and is against the Terms of Service.

I'm taking a break now.  No more requests for a while.
There are lots of mods tailored to specific people throughout this thread (not just the front page);  You should be able to find one that matches what you desire.  Have fun!

How to Install:
Navigate to your RimWorld game directory.
Open the 'RimWorld###Win_Data' folder.
Open the 'Managed' folder.
Rename 'Assembly-CSharp.dll' to 'Assembly-CSharp.orig.dll' (Backup, just in-case).
Paste the downloaded file into the 'Managed' folder.
Rename your downloaded file to 'Assembly-CSharp.dll'.
Play the game!

Minimum Skills Mod:
===============================================================
Every AI human (Player and Enemy) use the same spawn function - therefore, even enemies will receive the benefit of this mod.  I recommend using this mod only to spawn your initial settlers and then restore the original before your first raid (unless you want to capture a few invaders with 20 in every stat).

Version 1.0: 11/13/2013 for Version 254b
- Basic mod.  Supports 3 versions.
- Works with existing worlds (Will not affect pre-existing AI).

Downloads:
Minimum level 8 in all stats
Minimum level 12 in all stats
Minimum level 20 in all stats

Geyser Mod:
===============================================================
Increases the number of Geysers spawned during map generation.  Requires a new world.

Version 1.0: 11/13/2013 for Version 254b
- Reduces the distance from player spawn that a geyser can spawn.
- Reduces the distance between geyser spawns.
- Increase the number of geysers within a 100 block radius.
- Will require a new world.

Downloads:

(Without Minimum Skill Level Mod Integration)
A few extra geysers.
A lot more geysers.
Too many geysers!

(With Minimum 8 Skill Level Mod Integration)
A few extra geysers.
A lot more geysers.
Too many geysers!

(With Minimum 12 Skill Level Mod Integration)
A few extra geysers.
A lot more geysers.

(With Minimum 20 Skill Level Mod Integration)
A few extra geysers.
A lot more geysers.
Too many geysers!

Resources Mod:
===============================================================
Whenever you gain a resource (metal/food/medicine/etc), you will receive 500 of that resource instead of the stated amount.

Version 1.0: 11/13/2013 for Version 254b
- Basic mod. Not much else to say. >_>
- Works with existing worlds.

Downloads:

(Without Geyser Mod Integration)
500 Resources on Pickup

(With Small Geyser Mod Integration)
A Few More Geysers & Resources

(With Med. Geyser Mod Integration)
A Lot More Geysers & Resources

(With Lrg. Geyser Mod Integration)
Too Many Geysers & Resources

Technically, adding Geyser Mod integration wasn't necessary since the Geyser mod only affects map generation (you can switch the files afterwards), but I figured Extra Geysers and More Resources worked well in combination.

===============================================================

Status Level Mod:
===============================================================
With this mod, none of your Status Levels (Hunger,Rest,Happiness,Fear, etc) will fall below 50%.

Version 1.0: 11/13/2013 for Version 254b
- Basic mod.

Also, be sure to select the map size in your advanced options. Otherwise, the map will default to 200x200.

Ideas / Mod Forum

Would it be possible to get a forum for modded content?  I have a few mods I've created and wouldn't mind sharing if people are interested (I'm assuming mods are allowed based on the FAQ I read).
