Hello fellow Rimworld fans! I've just started a modded playthrough of Beta 18 on my channel. I'm checking out one of the new biomes, the temperate swamp, and aiming to go check out as many of the new events as I can.

Ideas / New hostile behavior: attack at range.

Currently, pawns can be set to flee, attack, or ignore hostiles, defaulting to flee. I think flee and attack should be combined into a new one, where the pawn will try to get range on the target before attacking.


The way I envision this not being overpowered is that the pawn wouldn't do so with any sort of intelligence. Just pick a direction away from the target, try to keep a few tiles of distance (like...6-10?) and shoot. That way, pawns would either be faster and thus get distance o shoot, or just not get caught in melee unless the attacker is faster than them.


One advantage this would have for players is the buffer of flee while keeping the pawn close enough for the player to effectively take control and manage in a more intelligent way. Maybe get a few potshots is. It would also make throwaway weapons like the chain shotgun and the pistol more broadly useful.

I hate having to go through my weapons and manually compare the accuracy and damage stats, so I usually just give everyone the best great bows, assault and bolt-action rifles I get. Best sniper rifles for anyone above shooting 10. Gladius for the brawlers. I have a mod in my A16 series that helps with this but it hasn't been updated for A17 yet.


I'm interested in how other players eyeball their weapons though! So let me know.

Support / Changing config folder on Linux?

I'm trying to keep separate "instances" for A16 and A17, which is easy as far as the mods folder is concerned but not so much when it comes to saves and configs. I did find a few tutorials that showed how to change the savefiles folder but on Windows. I need something similar for Linux and for the whole config folder if possible.

Mod bugs / Possible memory leak A16 Modded Linux.

Hello. I have a possible memory leak under Alpha 16 modded. After a while of playing the game (in between a few minutes and an hour) Rimworld's memory usage will spike very quickly, locking up the game and slowing my pc down to a crawl. I've read the only log I can find but I don't seem to find the exact problem. Any help would be appreciated.

When using "Do until you have X" in stonecutting bills all blocks are counted instead of just the ones of the specific type, making it impossible to do say 50 granite and 50 limestone unless I do until 50 on one and until 100 on the other.

Hello! I will get to the point: figuring out which weapon is most effective is a pain, especially with so many variables affecting the overall effectiveness of weapons. What I would love to see is something like Numbers where all the weapons in storage are listed with their stats and can be sorted and filtered, if possible.


Ideally said screen would sort of mimic the tables found in the wiki, only with the specific weapons in your storage zones.

Hello! I'm sure this is intended and not actually a bug but colonists will leave items unfinished and start new ones. Is there any mod that forces them to finish an unfinished item before they start on a new bill? I'm kinda sick of having 4-8 unfinished items all started by the same person.

I've tried this mod on both Windows and Linux. On Windows it runs fine, on Linux it causes the game to crash when a pawn attempts to build something marked by the designator. There is an old log here as currently my Linux version has decided that writing logs is for chumps (some permissions issue I'm sure), however that old log is for the exact same problem.


My question here is, could this be something I could fix myself, as the mod author seems MIA? If so, could I be pointed in the right direction?

General Discussion / Are armchairs worth it?

In my game right now (A14), a good armchair has a beauty value of 4 and comfort of 0.88. Meanwhile a good wooden dining chair has a beauty value of 17 (!) and comfort value of 0.77. This leads me to believe that armchairs are only useful when comfort has to be prioritized over everything and that you generally would want to put dining chairs everywhere. Doesn't feel worth the 100 cloth and work.


What do you guys think? Should the armchair be buffed in some way?

Hello. Yesterday I started a new colony and played it for a few hours without issue. Today, I try to load it but the game crashes on 'loading map'. I've tried making a new clean test save and loading it. It loads fine. I loaded my old, doomed colony save and it loaded fine too. I'm starting to suspect that this particular save-file could be corrupted. I would love to recover the colony if possible because I was having a lot of fun with it. I'm on Linux and no outpu_log is being generated, only that player.log.

Mod bugs / Cannot load map, load order suspected.

Hello! I am having a problem where I can't load any save files without the game crashing on 'loading map'. Unfortunately, after double-checking the instructions on mods, I've determined that none of them are incompatible except EdB ColonistBar and Enhanced Tabs. However, enhanced tabs should work perfectly since it's loaded after EdB. I can start a new colony without an issue and even save but I can't load that save anymore. I've already tried deleting all configuration files, same issue occurs. Have not tried with vanilla. I'm on Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit, running Rimworld A13.
