Bugs / Re: Rimworld Loading times

Yikes. That's a heck of a loading time/bug. I think I'd leave the game running all the time if I had that happen.

If you knew, you probably wouldn't wanna tell anyone anyway, lest people take the date as set in stone and hell be unleashed upon the forums when an update doesn't arrive on that date.

Having seen that happen for other games in alpha when a dev posts estimates, I know this to be true.

To the topic, I haven't even seen all the new stuff in A9 yet so I'm in no rush for A10!

General Discussion / Re: Lack of DRM

I had pirated the game, In my defense, I was tired of buying games that after a few updates wouldn't run. After I spent countless hours with the game, it was easy to realize that i'll be playing this game way passed it's value, like, xcomEW, terraria, minecraft and space engineers to name a few. Sometimes, a pirated game can lead to a sale if {like in my case} the culprit is anxious for the latest updates

This (and other posts, but yours was the first post that made me think of it) reminds me Alex (sorry, can't remember his last name), one of the devs (producer?) for Pixel Piracy. He has taken a somewhat similar stance in that he accepts piracy as an eventuality.

He's taken a different approach which I won't get into because that's a whole other topic, but it has had the same result: many people who pirated the game ended up purchasing it because he made a quality product and wasn't a jerk about piracy.

Stand-up devs can go long a way to selling their product, never mind the quality of said product. When you have a good product AND a good dev? Well, you have Pixel Piracy, and of course, you have RimWorld.

I'll definitely get my money's worth from this game and I'm happy to have supported a good product and a good dev (and a good community) with said money.

Video / Alpha 9 flatland series [no killbox allowed]
March 31, 2015, 05:27:39 PM
Hi everyone. If you didn't see my alpha 8 series, it was a lot of fun using some rather non-standard rules (in short: only cannibals in the colony; no "cannibal" trait, you're not allowed in).

I've started an alpha 9 series in a flat shrubland on the coast. (What? No mountains?) To make matters more bloody, I'm not using a killbox, though I may use a couple of strategically placed mines--er, turrets. In addition, I'm sure the alpha 9 goodness (vomit, alcohol, etc.) will come into play at some point because, well, why not?

I'll be posting episodes daily (weekdays) barring any unforeseen circumstances. You can find the playlist for the series here.

Cheers. Hope you enjoy.

Off-Topic / Re: An article on save scumming
March 22, 2015, 08:16:15 PM
I've never saved scummed Rimworld (or Dwarf Fortress, for that matter), but I've save scummed the heck out of Angband/Zangband/Moria. Not so much these days, but when I was much younger I'd do it all the time.

Maybe as I've grown old(er) I've learned to live with decisions and play, good or bad. In fact, that came up today while playing Rimworld. Alas... poor guy.

2560x1440 is what I play at. I was considering getting a 3440x1440 monitor, but I'm having a difficult time swallowing the price.

This is my current base (I'm still playing alpha 8, trying to finish this game). Yes, only 3 colonists (the originals) in year 2. Cannibals-only--no one else (loc978, you clearly found more psychopaths than I have cannibals, which is to say I've found zero).

Pretty straightforward, really. The killbox was a rushed design, but it has proven effective. I just switched to extreme (on Cassandra) and survived the first extreme raid (previous raids at challenging and rough proved harmless). No solar, no batteries, just thermal and a small wind farm. Have survived numerous raids, sieges, and two ancient ship parts to this point.

I'm fairly certain I could've built a spaceship by now, but I'm more interested in seeing how long they can last.

General Discussion / Re: Bad Binging Time

I read the topic as "Bad Singing Time" and wondered if I missed a mod. ;)

Yeah, definitely a bad time to go on a binge. I'm guessing it didn't end well for her.

More episodes up, and because I've been busy, I'm only now getting to this. Sheesh. Someone needs to waggle their finger at me. Maybe I'll go find a mirror...
