Jimbo is a good colonist for anyone! (If you want a Bionic soldier to become a tyrant and form a legion of bionic concubines. Than again, who wouldn't?)

General Discussion / Re: Feeling limited with priorities

i thought like you too. then i learned how to properly use the <=== ===> priorities too, which gives you 4*20=80 possibilities
As I mentioned above, He still can't do what he would like to using these. Having more priority numbers could definitely help things out a bit
And considering he mentioned that he wishes he could move haul forward and hunting back, I'd say its a safe bet that he knows how the <<<< and >>>> work, they just can't do what it is he would like and so are no help.

Yeah, as zand pointed out, you're not utilizing it fully. Stuff in the front has higher priority then that in the back, meaning you're ignoring a whole number, 1, which could be used. Like if construct and repair are 2, repair is 2.10 because it's behind construct while construct is 2.9, making repair lower priority.
I think he is utilizing it as best he can. Even using the <<<< and >>>> priority, there is still no way to do what he was asking. He still can't keep Crafting/Smithing and Haul as 4, but have them do Haul as the higher priority.

General Discussion / Re: mechanoids way to OP and more and more OP in every single patch?
August 27, 2015, 04:10:50 PMQuote from: Ithildae on August 27, 2015, 02:00:43 PMCassandra Rough player chiming in here.
My concerns are for players on cassandra classic at "rough." Players on a higher difficulty or on random storyteller should be more experienced in the game.
I've always found the Manhunter Warg packs of 20+ to be a bigger threat than any of the Mechanoid ships or raids I've gotten. While I won't deny that my first encounter with them was pretty bad, So was my first encounter with sappers. (Molotovs into the same wall as my bedrooms = 500 degree deathrooms). I probably lost more to sappers than I ever have to Mechanoids. Once you realise, "Oh, These things have better weapons than me", you just have to treat them as the threat they are, I.E., Carefully. I look forward to the bastards at this point, As I need the Plasteel

Ideas / Re: The problem with Rimworld
August 26, 2015, 04:38:32 AM
I think the biggest thing to remember in this thread is that Dwarf Fortress is the product of one man's full time dedication. For anyone who wasn't aware, DF's Dev doesn't work a job (last I checked). He survived on 30-40k in donations per year, and spent just about every bit of his spare time doing nothing but working on DF. He has made it incredibly clear through action (As well as stating it) that DF is his Life's Work AND he has been working on it for roughly 13 years now. One can expect a gap between the two games just from that alone.
I am a huge fan of DF. But I can also say that I've quickly become just as large a fan of Rimworld, and while people can say all day that the story is simply:
1. Build Killbox
2. Win.
There are similar techniques in DF that can kill off a story just as quick
1. Fill entire entrance hall with cage traps
2. Win
or
1. Seal off fortress from outside world with invincible walls once sustainable fort/population is reached
2. Win
or
1. Build "Danger Room" (Militia training room full of crappy wooden spear traps operated by lever that fail to penetrate even clothing which train dwarves at an extreme rate in weapon skill/armor skill)
2. Win.
To really sum up what I'm trying to say.... Give it some time. The game will grow, it will create amazing stories, and what Tynan doesn't add, Mods will (Just like DF. Masterwork Mod is appropriately named
)
P.S. And if you want to generate some !FUN!, You might have to challenge yourself a bit with things like, No Killbox, etc. I'm having a blast without them, but than again, I'm a sucker for micromanagement

Same as above. Never had much of an issue with Mechanoids. Hell, I've had my prize melee fighter take down a centipede on his own before.

Ironjaw Jimbo.
Make sure to give him dentures, regardless of whether or no he has actually lost his jaw

General Discussion / Re: Your most evil deed ingame?

I uh... sold some prisoners.. With their limbs intact. After being treated by my doctor. With medicine. In their own, personal 3x3 cells with AC. And fed the same meals my people eat. Which are not made from people. Oh. Wait, I did do an evil thing!
I let some downed raiders die because my cells were full. That counts, right?

Stories / Ironjaw Jimbo and the Bionic Babes
August 22, 2015, 12:30:42 AM
Jimbo was no stranger to a rough life. Grown in a vat to fight wars for other people tends to prepare you for most things. Not that he remembers much, as 2000 years in an imperfect cryosleep did a number on his head (Psychically deaf). He woke up as a tourist attraction, one of many ancient cryopods discovered on Epsilon B, a so-called Glitterworld. He did well in his new life. Went into the medical field, got paid far too much just to make new noses for people.
Jimbo took a vacation at the prime age of 43, Ready to see a few worlds other than Epsilon. Of course his luck being what it was, They had barely left orbit when the passnger shuttle got boarded by some unsavory sorts. A slaver ship by the name of "The Black Magic". They waited for most of the passengers to enter their cryptosleep pods and than just nabbed the pods themselves. Jimbo woke up in a cell with two others, Slips (Some sort of witch doctor, called himself an Herbalist) and Holm (A deep space miner who looked like he'd spent more time mining for dessert than anything else).
They spent 2 years in that cell together. 2 years before they got their chance. A short circuit blew the batteries on the port side of the ship, Knocking out the cell locks and putting a hole bigger than a tank in the side of the ship. Jimbo and his mates barely made it to the escape pods when the ship tore itself apart in the atmosphere of whatever planet it'd been orbiting.
EPISODE 2: Jimbo's Jaw
When they hit the surface, The pods split apart like cheap confetti. How Jimbo and the crew survived will forever remain a mystery. He took one look at the scattered supplies and knew right away what his role would be. Rifle in hand, his days as a surgeon were over. Someone had to feed them, and he sure as hell wasn't putting a rifle in the hands of an "Herbalist". It'd been years, But his training came back to him. Slips got to work on a small farm, and Holm turned out to be a pretty capable mechanic. Using some scrap supplies and some basic blueprints left in a damaged escaped pod computer, he had some solar panels up in a day or two.
Time flew after that. They got to know the locals, both good and bad. A tribal group gave'em trouble from time to time, but bows and spears didn't hold up to a sturdy rifle in Jimbo's capable hands. Their ramshackle hole in a cliff turned into a real home, and as it did, others joined them. Dr. Cheiwa, A former Navy Scientist, Helped them set up some more modern luxuries, And in the rare times they had a prisoner, It was the Doc who talked to 'em. A few brave souls joined Jimbo on the line, standing between the colony's peace and the pirates beyond. They joined the unfortunate in the dirt shortly after, until it was always just Jimbo and his rifle left. His new rifle, that is. Fully automatic, and clearly from a superior (quality) manufacturer. Jimbo seemed invincible. But all that changed when that blasted ship crashed...
It wasn't normal. Some of the more psychicly inclined folks were on edge from the moment it hit the dirt nearby. Jimbo wasn't bothered himself, He'd never had much of a connection with that sort of thing. Psychicly deaf, they called him. But for the sake of the colony, He decided to do something about it. After all, Nothing could face Jimbo and his rifle!...
When Slips finally dragged him away from the blasted machines, those mechanical demons that had burst out of the fallen ship, Jimbo was in bad shape. An energy projectile of some sort had blown his jaw clean off, and burned out an eye to go with it. Slips was no expert, But he managed to slap some scrap together into a crude jaw for Ol' Jimbo. While Jimbo rested, The rest of the colony hid, and waited for the machines to descend upon them next. Finally, Holm decided to go out, just for a peek. A miracle!, A miracle, he cried. He told them all how he'd seen animals of all sorts, ripping the machines apart. The colony cheered, and even moreso when Jimbo came out of the infirmary, rifle in hand, to finish off that blasted ship.
And thus, Ironjaw Jimbo was born.
EPISODE 3: The Bionic Babes
With a man like Ironjaw protecting the colony, They had nothing to fear, and soon wealth was to be found everywhere. When the question came of what to do with it, The answer was simple: Ironjaw took priority. With the profit made from the guns of fallen pirates and that strange core from the ship, He had but one request. Upon looking at his jaw of metal in the mirror, his mouth grated out a single word.... "More", And the colonists listened. Surgery after surgery, until he was barely a man, and at the same time something more. His Bionic eyes ensured no shot missed his target. His Bionic arms gave him great strength, and his rifle was never held unsteady. His new legs, Given when his feet were shot off, made sure that no enemy fled his stoic justice. By the end of his enhancement, he had saved the colonists a hundred times over, and his word was gospel. But even as a king and protector, he stood alone until that fateful day. A raid, larger than the others from before. 20 or more tribals rushing forward with bows and spears. Ironjaw's Charge Rifle and a couple of turrets turned them all into broken bodies, but miraculously, 2 had survived. Seara and Michelle were treated by the doctors on Jimbo's orders, for he had seen something in their eyes as he had fought. Jealousy, and awe at the sight of his body. (Both Prosthophiles, both had passion for shooting. Lucky day). It took weeks, Months even, before they were willing to turn their backs on the tribe they once called home, But by then time they did, Jimbo had presents for them. They walked straight from their cells to the infirmary, And when they came out, with a new eye each and a smile wider than a Muffalo, Jimbo knew they were his. Slapping charge rifles into their hands, the newly dubbed Bionica and Andronica (Jimbo was a simple man) joined him on the line. Ironjaw no longer stood alone.
Now all he needed was a palace.....
(More to come. Now you know where he got his name and the Bionic Babes. But what is this about a palace? Find out next time!)
