It says it is supposed to prevent diseases and infections, and it adds immunity to plagues, but it doesn't seem to do anything for you know infections.  I applied penoxycycline to an injured pawn with an infection that was greatly outstripping his immunity, but it seemed to do all of nothing. 

Am I not using it properly, or am I a fool who cannot read some important detail?

It prevents infections, not cure them

Think of it like a vaccine that expires over a few days

If you have grass on your map, yes, animals are an excellent way of turning it into meat.  Elephants are a giant way of accomplishing this.

But you will cry when toxic fallout kills your grass.

But on the bright side, you finally find a purpose for your 50,000 potatoes left in the freezer during last harvest.

Pigs and Boars are the best way of disposing of raiders.  They can haul and consume the dead bodies so your colonists don't get debuffs.  And turn raiders into usable meat and leather without any debuffs.

Don't pigs and Boars eat the entire body without leaving any skin or meat behind?

Beavers are essentially food relief by the game. Never in my playtime have I ever encountered a deadly Beaver pack. Bad luck man!

Rimworld has some lore that is pretty hard to find but I found lots of info about the universe of Rimworld!
