General Discussion / Re: Update Compatibility

Thanks guys! You rock! That'll help save me if I get deeply emotionally connected to my colonists again
(always wonder; why there aren't more deep 'people sim' games, deeper than The Sims, etc)
I already started a new colony of clueless, useless fools, and this time gave them an almost impossibly-hot jungle to die in,
rather than the impossibly cold place they were slowly dying in, in the savegame I lost.

Wish there were more ways, and mods, to prevent death, like save dying colonists or capture enemies alive, etc..
..would also be good to be able to force prisoners to do work, like use them as slaves, etc.

Merry Christmas! And thanks again! <3

General Discussion / Update Compatibility

To be clear; I love this game and Tynan for making it.
I'm a bit sad about what his "Christmas Present" to me is, though.
I took some time off to finally finish the long ongoing story of my colonists before trying A16. So I did the required thing, and did "beta 0.15" and expected, quite reasonably, to be able to play the game out, before starting fresh.
But some of the mods had updated to A16 versions even though I didn't want them to, and had set it to Beta/A15, and the map wouldn't load without those mods. So I had to let it update to A16. Which then simply said "old saves no workie" and deleted my little world.

I know its still being worked on. I know new updates might break saves. But having bought it, I should be able to say "Ok I like the mods/version I have right now, don't change anything on my computer until I'm done playing with it" even if thats weeks or months later. All that requires is for Steam/Rimworld to do *Nothing* to my files, until I say "Ok to update". That doesn't hamper development or prevent a new version changing everything. But here I am, at Christmas, and the long, deep story I had going.. will now never be known.

This is the sort of thing that would make me want to try and move Rimworld out of Steam and block it from checking for updates, but maybe all that is automated too and doesn't need to be. If it only asked for confirmation before updating stuff, my world wouldn't be lost.

I know Tynan won't read this or care, but we don't all have time to play it through because of work, and because we do Love the game, we look forward to when we have time to revisit it. And sometimes theres a "Golden Age" when our favourite mods all work, before one is abandoned by the author and no longer works, so we might like to keep that version to be able to play it.

Please keep this in mind for future updates. But as always, thanks for making Rimworld! And Merry Christmas!
