I wonder if there can just be a heatmap of when the raiders are attacked. After the amount of shots in a square are too big that square will act like it takes twice as long to get across. After a few raids if theres just a death trap then raiders will see its much "faster" just to burn down the walls on the sides instead of going through a place where they have always died in.

Perhaps use it also in the grid system that ty talked about a while ago. The more raiders die / are first attacked in the area the more they avoid it

General Discussion / Re: combat and mood

its not the psychic wave because i did the patch that tynan said to do.

I usually make my front line a bit farther out to make sure people don't break from the dead bodies so I guess i was naturally prepared for that but what i meant is that my colonists are usually at about half mood and when combat starts they suddenly find themselves in a fight for their lives they throw hissy fits because the fight happened before breakfast and they happened to be hit.

i know you are hungry but you can have your honey bunches of nope AFTER the raiders are not trying to paint the walls in your blood.

perhaps we should have something like an adrenalin bonus or something like that when they start a major fight sort of how fear worked in the old alphas. they would get really frightened by all the death and shooting and its only after that died down that they would get breaks from bodies and being hungry?

General Discussion / combat and mood

so after trying out alpha 5 one thing has really stood out for me and more or less caused the death of two forts.

when we still had fear and happiness med to large fights would usually make happiness drop to almost nothing but the fear from (I think it was) being shot and the death of the enemies would keep people over the breaking point for a bit until things died down and you have time to clear the body away. Now I find however that mood just falls really fast and my colonists can't even fight a pack of two riders without someone starting to break and then going nuts as I try and get them away from the fight.

Last battle I had on day 93, the combined death of four of my eight colonists and the wave of dead bodys at the wall just wrecked mood. Two people went mad, killing one of my last two guys before being subdued and after all that a squirrel went mad and one hit KO'd my last man.

I won the battle but lost the war :/

It could just go the way of minecraft and use the term while the game is still not finished and once ty thinks its ready move to the release or beta version

Stories / the doom fort of sparta
October 31, 2013, 10:38:27 AM
well i first found about the game and saw a few videos so for the first fort i just desided what if i had a fort only full of trained solders? (hence the same sparta)

also wall of text misspelled text inbound grammar nazis beware
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so i started with a noble a solder and one all round meh builder. turns out that with only one guy it takes FOREVER to build anything so the fort became just a complex of a eating hall/armory and a common dormatory. it gets better however as then people started to wonder around the fort and where sudenly arested and forced to join the fort bringing the population up to 8 and all hell broke lose.

my fort now with a small surounding layer of sandbags was then attacked by i kid you not 6 waves of about 8 pirates in a row. the fort held but it was a bloody fight there where bodys everywhere and i lost 5 guys leaving me with my starting noble that had 14 shooting and the m24 sniper another solder that had 5 shooting and 3 all round and a farmer with i think 6 in both growing and cutting. my people could not even go outside without almost going insane from 6x saw dead body.

the next problem other then from the lack of people i found was that if everyone has m16s and snipers no pirate will ever become incaped and would always die >.< this continued for about 30 more min while i was trying to save people from lifepods and then pirates attacked from nowhere.

my fort gained 3 people from life boats so the army was large and well equiped with all m16 some lee enfields and a sniper but note that my fort at all times was guarded by people with no turrets at all so when i sudenly saw about 6 pirates comeing right over my sandbags i tried to rush the solar pannels in front of my base and hold there but one had nades and killed half my team right off. the other half then fell after a battle in the hall leaveing one guy left wounded in a bed. the pirates then set fire to everything and the game said they "gave up" but the pirates seemed content just to set fire to my base.

then my guy starved and gg :D fun times all round
