chinchillas are just small mouse/rat-like animals and obviously in real life aren't aggressive to humans!

Whoa, there's the problem. You're thinking of Earth chinchillas. On the unnamed planet, they're part piranha. :)

If a pyromaniac breaks, and is equipped with an incendiary launcher, they use the launcher to start fires.

Okay, maybe this isn't a good suggestion. ;)

Stories / Hunter's Inferno
September 07, 2017, 07:46:30 AM
I made a pass through my colonists adjusting who was equipped with what weapons. I didn't realize I gave a hunter an incendiary launcher. In his pursuit of a buck, he managed to start quite a fire and forced all colonists into the stronghold to await the rains.

I'm thankful that I didn't give the incendiary launcher to one of my pyromaniacs, though I'm not certain they would realize what they were holding if they suffered from a break. (Maybe that should be a suggestion. /shudder)

There could be non-lethal traps added to the game, however.

The reason given doesn't really make sense, but its part of the charm of the game. Just laugh it off.

Yes, the Liberian fishermen cannot take you to Los Angeles. But the Liberian fisherman can rescue you from being stranded, starving, exposed to the elements, being attacked by raiders, and deadly insect infestations. Then, once you're back to the fishing village, you might be able to arrange something further.

Have you ever watched an empty map after your colony has escaped to space? Escape pods land roughly every 3-4 days. Are they just attracted to that part of the globe, or are they raining down all around the planet? There must be lots and lots of ships up there.

But again, this is all part of the charm of the game. Don't change a thing. :)

I've used three shifts to keep the Research Bench busy 24x7.
I've used a night shift to surge through the production of things like food or stone blocks.
I've put an entire colony on the night shift to avoid desert heat during the day.

I like KillTyrant's idea of using the night shift to train backup pawns.

Stories / Winter Fallout Seige

Dear Diary,

Its the second day of winter and toxic fallout has given us another reason, beyond the cold, to avoid going outside. I guess we'll be working the mines extra hard in the coming weeks.

Dear Diary,

Its the 6th day of winter and the colony is abuzz. We are under siege. They must be fearsome warriors as they're braving both the cold and the toxic fallout. They've constructed sandbag defenses but seem to be having trouble setting up their mortar. They appear to have failed to construct the mortar and are short on components.

Dear Diary,

Its the 8th day or winter and the colony is celebrating. The pirates are no longer a threat. They apparently were paralyzed by their failure to construct their mortar. They wandered around in the snow and toxic fallout until they were at death's door. Then they charged our base, succumbed to the fallout, and left all their possessions at our door.

If you merely wish to see your characters in-game rather than have them distributed with the game Rimworld, then Rainbeau's Editable Backstories mod may be what you're looking for.

Thanks for the tip. I may use that for other purposes, but for these two friends I was thinking of the more permanent/distributed option.

Thinking about this, and in theory there should be another (cheaper) way if you have friends who own the game, and who also haven't already got their name in the game (and ideally, never plan to).

As if you give these friends money to buy the name in game DLC from Steam, or you buy the DLC for them as a gift (if that's possible), then you can give these friends the details of the two names you want in the game for them to submit. So you personally will only be paying for however many "name in games" you want without the cost of having to buy multiple copies of the base game.

This is just a theory though, although I don't see why it wouldn't work myself. That is as long as you have friends who own the game, and are willing to forego the option of having their own name in the game. (if someone has the DRM-free version then they can register their game on Steam for free via this link https://ludeon.com/rimworld/getmygame/)

Tbh I'm wondering if that advice you got from Ludeon help isn't outdated. As that would have been the answer before the DLC launched on Steam, as pack upgrades were stopped after a certain point, so anyone wanting to get their name in the game had to buy a whole new pack at full price, even if they already owned the base game. But that's no longer the case now with the Steam release, as now you can upgrade again by buying the relevant DLC on Steam.

Currently, I don't have the friend option. I'm the only person I know playing the game.

I'm logged into Steam right now, having already bought both RimWorld and the Name in Game option for my own name. The webpage is telling me the price of "Name in Game" is $44.99. That's the same if I followed the advice I had gotten from ludeonhelp.

I've already followed the first advice for my first friend's name, and I'm about to do it again for the second. It is pricey this way, but I guess I don't mind. These were really good friends. if at some point Ludeon wanted to make a change and trade my two unused licenses for 4 more names, that would be cool. Their records should show that I've not downloaded those extra copies. Either way, I'm happy.

When NPC raiders are rampaging, they often take prisoners. Yet they ignore people in cryptosleep caskets. They could take prisoners from cryptosleep caskets.

Creative Rewards / Re: Name in Game Multiple Times?

I received a response from ludeonhelp. Here it is for reference:

> You'll need to purchase two more copies of the game with the Name in Game tier through our website,
> here: https://rimworldgame.com/
> You'll need to use different email addresses for each copy, as our Creative Rewards system
> does not allow one email address to have multiple rewards.

So is this question a real stumper, just so dumb that y'all are quietly laughing at me, folks are just really busy, or...?  :)

Creative Rewards / Name in Game Multiple Times?
April 21, 2017, 08:57:34 PM
It occurred to me that the "Name in Game" creative reward would make a cool tribute to a couple of friends of mine who are no longer living. I don't see a way to purchase this more than once. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place?

EDIT: Perhaps I should have mentioned I purchased the game, and my first use of "Name in Game" through Steam. Now I'd like to buy two more "Name in Game" rewards.

Stories / Dirty Stinkin' Sappers
April 17, 2017, 07:53:09 AM
My most recent colony had gotten to a dozen survivors and had just become fortified in a cave at the end of a box canyon. The entrance to the canyon was protected by walls, sandbags, and a decent defense.

Enter the sappers. But where are they going? They're going to dig, *there*? They'll have to dig through 60 blocks to get to me. Okay, I assemble the colonists by the wall to go get them.

Just then, the sappers reveal a huge hidden area that leads all the way to within a block of the colony's kitchen. Suddenly, its a race to get the colonists back to the base. The eventual battle in the hallways was brutal.
