The last two in the list are to follow the master into combat and follow the master when doing fieldwork (hunting, etc).  If you uncheck those, the animal will stay inside its assigned zone.

The problem is that the moment you successfully train Obedience on an animal, those get set true automatically.  Tynan should change it so the default is to keep those unchecked.

Yeah, it would be nice if training obedience didn't autocheck those two options. I'm always undoing them and setting master to none (unless someone got bonded.. ugh). I just keep puppies for hauling.

During a raid I restrict all animals to an inside zone where they'll be out of the way of the raid.

General Discussion / Re: Easy way to kill thrrumbo
June 30, 2017, 01:35:07 PM
The easiest kill I had was when I had a sniper shoot the thrumbo and then immediately run inside. The thrumbo took some hits from my turrets, then ran over a gauntlet of traps, triggering most of them. It was pretty much dead by the time it got inside and was picked off my a couple drafted pawns I had waiting for it.

Bill > Make Kibble - Always > Use only Human meat and Haygrass.

My favorite option is to set up an insect farm and use Insect meat and Haygrass for Kibble.

Just have 2-3 hives in a decently small room and install a few heaters. Pump it up to about 100°C and the spawned insects die of heatstroke but before they die they can usually tend to the hives so they wont expire. Once all insects are downed/dead go in and remove all corpses and jelly and replace mined walls with new ones so the next generation of insects cant escape.
Tips: use double walls so the insects dont mine themselves out of the enclosure and forbid the door so no colonist randomly walks in.

That is a fascinating idea. I will have to try this.

Has anyone ever owned chickens??  They absolutely eat EVERYTHING you put in their pen, and there's no grass left within a week!

A good friend of mine owns chickens and ducks. It is amazing how they will decimate an area.

How big in tiles would you say this chicken pen is ?
And how many chicken are in this pen ?

The problem with those birds is that they, like goats, eat all of the plants,
including the roots.
That way there is nothing left that regrows.

Hmmmm..  Maybe 10x20 squares. It is an area that's largely shaded by 4 trees. When she started I think she had a dozen chickens and ducks. I thought the grass would last at least twice as long as it did. It was an amazing transformation.

Sidenote - She has about an acre property and they are let out to roam around during the day, and then back into the pen at night.

I'm curious about this one.. does anyone ever alter their gameplay based on the fact someone in a relationship shows up??  Such as you try not to kill someone who is raiding or even you capture a friendly visitor, even though it damages trade relations??

I have tried this with small raids, where it's easier to sort people out. Usually doesn't work out. Haven't tried it in a while.

I wish there was a chance to recruit a relationship NPC when they're just passing by or with a trade caravan.

I think I had a prisoner hitting on a colonist once, or maybe it was a colonist hitting on a prisoner. Interesting, to be sure.

General Discussion / Re: Mining for gold

Typically when I mine for materials, I do aisle mining. I dig a 1-wide tunnel straight in, skip two blocks, make another 1-wide tunnel parallel to the first, and continue.  This ensures if there's a vein, I'll see it without having to mine out big area or worry about things falling down. I haven't done it in a while, so I'm not sure how prone to infestation they are. However, I don't usually build anything there, and I make sure the tunnels don't connect into my base.

I rarely find I'm in a position to get a caravan for a stash or a request up and going, or that the reward is worth it. I did one last night on a lark - the stash was close enough. Got there, things went super smooth. Headed home and got hit first by a manhunter pack - two lynxes, no big deal. Continued on, and then my poor little caravan was ambushed by raiders.  Happily the raiders had to funnel through a big pack of boomalopes to get to me.  Shot a couple of those critters and fiery chaos ensued.  That made that fight.. possible.  I did eventually make it home without loosing anyone.   Considering how much food I needed on that little trip.. I'm not sure I came out ahead, profit-wise.

I had one colony where I had lots and lots of brawls. Eventually I staggered the sleep schedules. The handful of pawns everyone got into fights with had to go to bed early, while everyone else stayed up late and slept in. The off-set schedules of the two groups cut down on the fighting quite well.
