Similarly to what other people have said, if you went into space and orbited around for a long time, you would eventually come back and more time would have passed on Earth than you spent in space. It's still only a few seconds at most, but if you were to travel at sub-light-speed a huge distance and back you might find that, say, everyone you knew was dead.

Technically the astronauts on the ISS are aging "slower" but the time is so miniscule it's not significant. The same is true for airline pilots. But were talking about nano seconds. The only way this works enough for anyone to notice is if you're traveling at a significant percentage of c (speed of light).

Brilliant. Dogs can be:
1. Trained to attack.
2. Fitted with an explosive vest that has a remote that controls explosion.

Also, in their spare time they are haul stuff around.

The Soviets actually did this (The explosive part) during WW2. They trained the dogs to crawl under German tanks and they were rigged with a lever and explosive vest to go boom. The problem was the Soviets had plenty of their tanks, but not many Germans', so they used their own surplus.  When it came to fielding the dogs with real explosives, the Soviet handlers let loose the dogs - and they went right for the Soviet tank lines! Taught the Soviets not to do that anymore lol.

Clicking on 30 lamps each game day is not my idea of a fun game.
Auto switch off when not required would be nice.

I'd agree, but it takes me maybe 10 seconds to do it if I so choose. Granted I'm deliberately keeping my colony small so I don't have a power problem to begin with; to call my laptop a dinosaur is an insult to dinosaurs everywhere lol.

Yup. I do know that. Just don't want to micro manage it all the time. Not really something a "mayor" should have to do - more of a "mandate" that he should suggest.

Okay, just checking. I hope it didn't come off as condescending; I know things can be misread without inflection and body language. ;-)

Other crash sites? Feral populations? I presume that while RimWorld is sparely populated, it's not pristine.

I was happy when that audio guy started getting more attention a few years ago. I've always kinda liked his biggest hit tbh.  8)

What if we're allergic??

Seriously though, they could easily be used for defense (dogs could be used as early warning/attack) or for loyalty. A person with a pet is generally a happier person. It would be interesting, however, if some colonists were allergic or hated them. You'd have to balance out the happiness of pro- and anti-pet colonists.

Off-Topic / Random Factoid Thread
November 12, 2013, 11:04:25 PM
Thought I'd start this thread since I am a huge fan of random, nerdy factoids. Feel free to add any as you wish.

Today's factoid: If you were to replace Sol (the sun, in case you're not familiar with the term 'Sol') with a black hole of equivalent mass; the Earth would remain in it's current orbit and would not be sucked in. A surprisingly large number of people people believe this would happen, even though black holes do not suck at all. In fact, it would take eight minutes for us to even notice, as this is how long light travels from Sol to Earth.

Of course, we'd die very shortly thereafter without any Solar energy entering Earth's "system," so it might be a good idea to start building your interstellar ship now!

English, and since my mom's side of the family hails from western Germany, enough German to get me into trouble.

Not a bad idea, however, you do know you can manually shut them off now right? You can click on them then you have the option.
