Whenever I get raided by one of these bastards they just never seem to get downed. Whether I seal them out and let the elements do the work or send an army of children to pummel them with their bare fists, they always end up dead and never downed.

Since Go-Juice essentially stops them from feeling pain, does that mean they can never be downed without getting killed? Is pain the only factor that determines whether a pawn goes down or not? Can't they lose consciousness due to blood loss or something?

Quote from: iller on March 06, 2023, 05:21:36 PMWell you're welcome to come to whatever conclusions you want since it looks like you already had your mind set on the conclusion when you started this thread.  Meanwhile I've since stapled powerclaws and archo arms on more of my hunters who've fought off bears in melee range ...(sometimes a micromanagement is required like instructing them to drop their rifles and melee with both hand for even more DPS)

Haven't come to any conclusion, just pointed out that a 1v1 is not conclusive evidence given the random nature of the game. If it were I wouldn't need to make this thread in the first place.

Anyway, I've since done some testing of my own, and it looks like melee does have an effect on gun-melee attacks. Though whether it's great enough to make a pawn worth keeping or banishing/selling/harvesting a pawn or not I couldn't say. Probably not, at least not for fighters. Hunters maybe.

Ideas / Re: In game mods installation

Quote from: gallanonim on March 03, 2023, 10:22:09 AMIt is for windows and mac only, i'm debian user.

And still this is third party software dependent on steam.

Define dependent, it doesn't require a Steam log in. The mods have to be hosted somewhere, just happens to be Steam in this case.

I'm assuming Debian is a Linux based OS, I know there are ways to run Windows apps on them but I don't use any myself so I can't confirm. Good luck.

Every else downloaders do not work.

So no, it is't easy. About a year ago it was a nuisance but possible, now it is not.

I use WorkshopDL, it works fine.

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello.

Quote from: iller on February 26, 2023, 02:27:37 PMI had one of my melee pawns totally get their ass kicked by some rando raider holding a ranged weapon because I made mine run up and punch at "them" without realizing that the enemy target had slightly higher Melee skill than my own pawn AND a power claw stapled on its other shoulder.  My own pawn was not just afflicted with "gun butt" bruises, they were definitely bleeding all over with Claw damage and missing digits.

Mine got his ass kicked by a raider with 3 melee levels below him and wielding the same weapon...

As far as I know their Melee skill doesn't affect the melee attacks they perform with the butt of the gun, so is there a point to having high melee skill/passion on a pawn that uses guns 100% of the time?

Ideas / QoL stuff for randomizing pawns?
February 22, 2023, 08:38:30 AM
I'm not going to suggest a pawn creator like Prepare Carefully since I know that horse has probably been beaten to death and resurrected several times. However, if the player is expected to Randomize pawns I think it would be nice to at least make that process a little less tedious. I have 3 suggestions in that regard:

1. Add an option to undo randomization, for the last 5 - 10 pawns or so. Rapidly clicking Randomize and missing that perfect pawn is the main source of frustration with this system, I think this would be an easy fix.

2. Add an option to lock a certain property of a pawn, i.e. if I want to randomize only pawns that have double passion in shooting or randomize only pawns that have the Trigger Happy trait, for example.

3. Add an option to save pawns, or at the very least save the preset colony for later use if you wish to restart a colony with the same pawns.

That's it, that's all I have.

Installing mods isn't hard, there are a plethora of Steam Workshop downloaders. Issue is updating said mods, it would be nice to have an in-game updater at the very least.

So yeah, +1.

Probably the Intel since they usually offer better single-core performance which tends to translate better in terms of game performance, AMD processors are usually more powerful overall but I doubt you'll ever put that power to good use in Rimworld even if you play on a 1000 x 1000 map, or gaming in general. I have a 5900X and my usage rarely gets close to 50% in any game.
