Support / Re: Native Apple Silicon Support

A pity this question seems to have been ignored. I would also like to see native support for Apple Silicon.

Haha, I came here ready to rage, well played.

Congrats Tynan, this game made you a millionaire and a lot of people happy, win-win. Take a good rest and cook up a new amazing game we can waste our lives playing.  8)

Oh, and please make an iPad port of RimWorld :D

It took me a long while to figure out how to form a caravan. I expected that by right-clicking a spot on the map, I will have the option to "send a caravan here" and then get the options to form it.

Maybe you could add something like this?

While it makes sense in some respects, I'm not sure I'd like it. From my player perspective it's a very convenient way of controlling the speed and challenge of the game.

Also, in some respects it doesn't make sense.
If you put me in a rimworld right now, I would know electricity is a thing, but I wouldn't know how to make ANYTHING. I don't think even a glitterworld surgeon would know how to assemble a television set etc.
We don't really carry our tech level with us
You're using a computer to write this. But would you know how to build a computer if you got stranded on another planet? Doubtful. You probably drive a car. Does it mean you would know how to build a car?

If anything, research is unrealistically easy and quick in RimWorld.

General Discussion / Re: Alpha 14 released!

100% positive reviews so far. :)

I guess that's the perk of giving out Steam keys to all the faithful fans upon release. ;)

i just bought mine last year?
Then no. Only people who bought the game before November 2014 will get a Steam key. (I bought in January 2015, *sigh*)

That's probably incorrect.

Valve now expressly forbids the promise of steam keys if the game hasn't been released to public market. Once the game is released on the Steam platform, the developer can create as many game keys as they so wish.
This information is from the official FAQ on this very site, people.

My colony usually falls apart before I get bored. I suck at this game. ;)

Mods / Re: need ideas for a mod

Idea: try to write a new storyteller. E.g., "Lucy Longterm" - a storyteller geared towards people who want to make a colony last 10+ years without having to face tribes of 200+ people attacking them.

Randy?

Maybe it is supposed to model the armor heating up to the point of burning the colonist?

If they re far enough from my base, I use them as an area denial tool. I make zone to exclude that part of the map and then fire a shot to get the mechs to spawn. If I get lucky a raid might spawn near the ship, and they take each other out, happened more than a few times in my games. Otherwise it is a death trap for passing visitors, they can drop quite a bit of silver over time ;D
That's a neat strategy. I need to try it sometime.

i thought mount&blade was a paradox game?

It is
Not quite. The studio that made Mount&Blade is called TaleWorlds (it was actually a married couple from Turkey). Paradox Interactive is their publisher. So while M&B was published by Paradox, it's not really their game.

Paradox has their own Paradox Development Studio, which made games such as Crusader Kings, Victoria and Europa Universalis - and now Stellaris.

It's like Civilization 5 and X-COM was made by Firaxis but published by 2K.

I've also preordered Stellaris.

keylocke - Paradox makes "grand strategy" - Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis also mostly have auto combat. For me, it's a feature. If I want tactical combat, I fire up something like RimWorld. When I'm managing an empire, it helps immersion to be somewhat separated from the battlefield.

+1 for Firefly - it was what made me watch the original Kickstarter pitch to the end.

For me, three main things that stand out are:

1) the game is relatively short - after a few hours, some disaster usually destroys my colony - this is a plus in my mind because I am impatient and I tend to abandon games that make it impossible to finish a playthrough in one or two sessions.
2) the storytelling-based design - every feature is designed in such a way as to be memorable. I love roleplaying and RimWorld is one of the best games for that.
3) the updates - I tend to come back to RimWorld with renewed interest after every update - and the fact that Tynan is so attuned to our feedback ensures that every new update deals with some gripe I had with the previous version. So the game keeps getting better and better.
