General Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself!

So, about me huh?
I'm probably one of your older generation Gamers here. I've played the original Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom on the Atari. I've also got experience with the original Pitfall when it came out.

My real true love of gaming really came out when I was younger and playing on the Apple ][+ and the original Wizardry or Ultima ][. Absolutely loved that game and had to play ]|[ and IV... gave up on V because I somehow thought it wasn't as developed as IV. Didn't even give 6 a try or 7. 8... wasn't on the radar and when the 3d version came out, Ultima IX Acension, I thought it was going to be the most awesome game on the market. But poor engine design really detracted from the overall game, despite it being one of the first forerunners to the 3d RPG game genre. I also played the original Wolfenstein. Not 3d... Wolfenstein and Beyond Wolfenstein from the early 80s. :)

I'm all over the place on gaming really. I don't do consoles and am purely a PC gamer. I've got a lot of experience with a large variety of games. You can find a spreadsheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkUbjIE9zH5TdHRhTUxFVDVvTFdVcGk1VjdKZEplWVE&usp=sharing (Sorry, I haven't updated it in forEVER!) So, you can see my gaming history is pretty in depth.

In a sense, when I play games, I can always figure out how something works in a game (e.g. events that are done through triggers, scripted, AI, etc) just by playing the game for a little while and I always seem to know if something was intentional or purely by accident. Call it a gut feeling... :)

How did I come across Rimworld:
I started playing Kerbal Space Program and saw Scott Manley had a video of him playing Rimworld. I was instantly attracted to the game, due to its "story-building" aspect. I like to play games to see how things could go and like to develop a bond with the characters I'm playing. So, Rimworld seemed right up my alley.

My favorite other game(s):
I absolutely loved the original Ultima IV. In my opinion it is still the epitome of the RPG genre. I'm also a big fan of the Elder Scrolls series and find that Skyrim is probably their best work graphically. However, game mechanics and design are best left to Morrowind. (I loved that running increased your athleticism skill; that whacking a training doll made your weapon skill go up, etc.) I was also a big fan of the Dark Forces series of games, though Jedi Knight Academy seemed to fall short of my expectations.

Most embarrassing moment in gaming:
I don't think I have one?

Favorite Breakfast cereal:
Fruity Pebbles. Hands down. I buy a box, it's gone that day. Jethrobowl of Fruity Pebbles... that is why I only buy a box a year. Hopped up on sugar for months after an episode like that. I always feel like I have to check myself into a Fruity Pebble Anonymous after eating a box (I can't even say "eating a bowl" cause that'd be a lie).

So... I take issue with a comment by you Tynan...

-What's your favorite other game?
Deus Ex. Yep, still hasn't been matched in terms of world development and story.
Hrmph... really? The Elder Scrolls series has no world development or story? How about Ultima I - IX...errr... VIII. IX was just a friggin' ball of mess. :) Personally, I think Deus X was good... but there are plenty of games that outclass Deus X in terms of story, history and overall design as well. Heck... there's Elder Scrolls and Ultima Fan Fiction... don't even know if Deus X fan fiction exists.

*steps off the soap box*
