Ideas / Wood economy

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that you plan on implementing different environments and I had some thoughts on how wood could be used in game.

Wood could be reusable and the items cheap, but also easily destroyed and very flammable.   Items could include:

  • Wooden beds - perhaps increase happiness if crafted by someone with higher skill?
  • Wooden door, floor, wall
  • Wood floor
  • Bedside cabinet - could store a weapon or another item or simply pictures on it and increases happiness
  • Wooden tables and chairs

  • On the trade screen, an extra button that leads back to the list of ships would be nice
  • Metal/Concrete and Stone Pillars - single space walls to hold up the ceiling
  • Power conduits that can be built in/on non-conductive walls - maybe research for it first?
  • Welcome/entry mats - Furniture that cleans some filth from colonists' feet
  • Research to increase battery efficiency maybe?  Although I don't know what the efficiency currently does
  • Blood that outside to eventually wash away.  Although more complicated, perhaps rain could help speed up that process?

The UI also seems cluttered at times, especially when the architect box is open. My cheap suggestion would be to shrink some of the boxes so that more stuff can fit into the same area.
A longer-term and less cheap version may be needed though, e.g. condensing similar things into one box that brings up the options available (like all the carpets in one box, that when clicked shows all the different colours).

In the public Alpha 2, I got to day 80 and all but 2 of my colonists just stopped doing anything.  In the box with their name and stuff in on the bottom left, there's a line that says "driverReport error" and they won't do anything automatically.  I clicked one and got it to prioritise planting potatoes, which it did once before stopping again.

The other 2 colonists don't have any problems and carry on as normal and all the frozen ones' needs still decrease (one had a mental breakdown due to stopping in a cave and wandered off).

No idea what happened, so no idea how to reproduce.
