As I understand, the lower beauty of silver flooring is supposed to be balanced by that it pumps up wealth and impressiveness.

General Discussion / Re: Caravan Travel Time/Days of Food Estimate Severely Off
August 02, 2017, 09:03:09 PM
Three muffalo at 3.6 c/s and four people at ~4.4 c/s. It does seem that one of the muffalo went into late stage part way through the journey and is down to 2.52 c/s. I'm not sure how tile movement speed is calculated so I don't know if that's enough to explain it, but it is highly suggestive with the progress of the pregnancy and the larger the discrepancy between day of food and travel time. This is one thing I'll have to remember in the future.

General Discussion / Caravan Travel Time/Days of Food Estimate Severely Off
August 02, 2017, 06:45:51 PMSo I started out with more than enough food for the thirteen day round trip, but now I have barely enough food to get to my first stop without starving. There was a single manhunting lab that didn't even touch before it was mowed down, but nothing else was there to delay my colonists. I'm in winter, so my meals I packed shouldn't have rotted during the trip. What's the deal?

What if water system is introduced on top of a blight mechanic?
Tynan has stated previously that he doesn't want a water system, so adding this is unlikely. That being said, it would certainly be more realistic if there were more ongoing farming activity relating to preparing for harvest (for instance, one must let hay dry in the sun before gathering it), or weed & pest prevention, etc.

General Discussion / Re: can't build crematorium
August 02, 2017, 06:13:25 PM
There are a couple reasons I can think of as to why this would be: your blocks are not in a stockpile and thus aren't counted as potential building materials, or you just don't have enough of whatever type. I'll be honest with you though, I don't bother with crematoriums anymore. I just make a stockpile in some out-of-the way place and let the bodies (eventually) disappear.

General Discussion / Re: Graves

Don't mess with graves but for your colonists, and when you do, do it big (sarcophagus). As for raiders I just haul to a stockpile far away from the compound, I used to incinerate them, but that costs hella lot of energy so I don't bother.
Also you can copy/paste storage settings, just press n to copy and j to paste (it shows buttons for this when a grave is selected). To do multiple of these at a time just select multiple by pressing shift while clicking or highlighting the area.

Moderator's edit (Calahan) - That post was by a spammer. Not the usual bot-type, but one who creates a new account, leaves it on ice for a week or two, makes a few mundane posts here and there to try and pretend they are part of the community, before trying to sneak a post in with a link to whatever site they were trying to promote. Seen it before, and sadly will see it again.

I feel that. Do you have a picture of your base?
I could've sworn there was a way to get rid of overlay and colonist names and such. Six years at this point.

Do those defend adequately against raids? How many are typically destroyed by hostiles?
Early in the current colony maybe a colonist or two might be downed in a particularly bad raid, but now that I have a barnful of muffalo & alpacas anyway, I might as well use the extra babies as war dummies. Don't take long to train and they usually reproduce fast enough for the current frequency of raids. Though, this turret layout definitely did work out hella lot better in A16.

In my base I have a wall surrounding my farms with, I suppose these are still killboxes, scattered along the perimeter so that sappers won't have anywhere to go. I either have them like this,
or in a right angle.
I have switches to turn them on if I ever have any power issues (currently I don't so I leave them on) or if there are manhunters I don't want destroying my turrets and would prefer to ignore.

Off-Topic / Re: Catchiest movie and game themes
July 24, 2017, 09:21:09 PM
All I've really watched for the past few months are anime, so J-pop openings and JoJo character themes are all I can think of off the top of my head.
https://youtu.be/NFjE5A4UAJI
The other thing that comes to mind, after a bit of thinking, are the Doctors' themes from Doctor Who...
https://youtu.be/xrOLov2nd3k
...also one of the few not-anime I've watched in the last year — Stranger Things.
https://youtu.be/pCfpTK0IB-w
Michael Giacchino's Star Trek theme
https://youtu.be/BlHyt_I1rFc
And to recommend some movies for their soundtracks: 2001: A Space Odyssey (Really only if you like classical music), A Clockwork Orange (super NFSW), Tarantino in general, and I haven't watched in years but I heard really good things of Tron: Legacy's soundtrack.

Off-Topic / What Are Some Cool Extensions You Use?
July 23, 2017, 11:31:12 AM
I recently installed a dark-mode extension to my Chrome and it made me think: what other cool things are there that I and other people mightn't know about?
My Favorites That I Already Use:
Universal Dark Mode for Chrome
Save files to Google Drive (requires a bit of configuration in the options)
Lets YouTube will play at 60fps on Chrome
(A nice test for this)
Software keyboard for typing without tapping
Software keyboard for writing with a stylus
You can customize your default fonts on Chrome in it's settings
You can add text replacements to you phone and computer so you can easily use your Japanese emoticons. ゚・✿ヾ╲(。◕‿◕。)╱✿・゚ (There's likely a keyboard for this, but I prefer to be able to just type something instead of searching through an endless list of these)
Edit: Cleaned up the hyperlinks and the descriptions.

How tough am I? Why once I was on the water for a day, and only reapplied once.

General Discussion / Re: Any tips on leveling up colonists' skills?
May 17, 2017, 10:28:51 PM
I believe that horseshoes and billiards don't level up shooting anymore. Hunting and shooting at sleeping spots is probably best.
If there is a raider who I rescued but is too terrible to recruit, I will install peglegs and a denture and release them so they will weaken the pirates whilst giving massive improvements to my surgeons.
Simply tame and train animals.
Stone cutting actually does still improve crafting in A16.
