Well in Alpha 7 when I used a bunch of mods I found this natural walled in area, I made my base there and for some strange reason the entrance which was relatively simple (I added a few spike pits) ended up defending me from large attacks with little to no injuries, That might just be because everyone had M4A1s (TTM mod) but it worked well before that.

The entrance was just a short and simple corridor that has a natural wall on the inside that made for good cover, but what I think that made it super powerful where the spike pits and my M4A1s, They tore anyone who tried to enter to bits. (You could replicate this with the LMGs)

-The Northern Biomes
-Temperature
-Clothing for the Temperature

Then I can finally hide in the frozen north from raiders.   :D

Well if you wanted to lose the "Slept Outdoors" Debuff you could cut down near by trees and make log huts, Could also make a wall with it if the area doesn't have much cover.

You could also have your people forage local food instead of hauling stuff there.

I like what your doing it sounds like actual military tactics.

I heard somewhere that the further you are from other camps (Can see camp when selecting landing site) the less raids you get, So if there aren't many factions fighting you + your miles away + the difficulty = Few raids (Maybe?) :P

-I make Cryo labs (I have the desire to put my colonists in stasis then use a Robot colonist mod to make a Skynet colony, Also I bury the Cryo pods :-X)
-I make all my permanent buildings 11x11

Good ide, all my prisoners have to do is sit around and wait for food while my colonists fight off raiders, Seriously prisoners have it better then we do. >:(

I want my colony to be permanently surrounded by these toxic clouds, Zombie clouds preferably 8), That would change the game forever.

I have no idea if it's possible but a oxygen system meaning further into the mountain you get it's more difficult to breath, Air vents would fix this but not be around early on, just a thought.
