Ideas / Books?
September 04, 2015, 08:40:45 PM
I would really appreciate some books. I have a lounge, with recliners and a TV, and sculptures and plants and a table and dining chairs, and beer and chocolate. It seems like books should be written, by an author, with different types eg. Biography, fiction, guides etc. They could give different types of skills, like guides could have a random skill they increased, biographies would give them increased joy, fiction could give a randomly generated description and also better joy boost,  it would take a longer time to write. All that would be written at a writers desk, and stored in a bookshelf, which would be a decorative object as well as a storage container for books. Books would degrade ery quickly, like a couple days, when left outside. If a colonist over reads or reads in the dark, then they would be more at risk  for cataracts, or their sight could deteriorate slightly. Then there would be traits like illiterate, who couldn't read, or bibliophile for people who get a lot of joy. Just think it would be a cool idea.

Thanks, Drakon

Probably the funniest was when I decided the room in the mountain couldn't be that bad. So I opened it and... Mechanoids! Lots of them! Slaughtered my colony. All that's left is a bunch of skeletons and some beer...

There is no mod I don't think, but I tend to agree that handhelds would be better until we get something like a sewage system, along with water pipes.

True, but in this case, your not asking a random person off the street to make body armor. Either you buy it from traders or you get it off some corpse. And while your right about its quality level, perhaps that could just mean that it stops fewer rounds before falling to pieces.

Do you mean an immediate death or something that takes a little while? It all about what pushes them over the edge. A gunshot wound that destroys a lung could be lethal. So could something that causes internal bleeding into the area around the heart, causing it to stop pumping. Also, if you've just suffered multiple GSW's and have lost a sizable amount of blood, then a gunshot wound to the arm or the leg could be lethal very quickly, just like a shot to the thigh, piercing the femoral artery, which has a 2 minute bleed out time. Lots of things can be lethal very quickly.

True, but that's not what I'm saying. Body armor stops bullets 95% of the time. Eventually they will go through, but a 40% chance is ridiculous.

Stories / Re: Sad Stories

Honestly, when my colony had just gotten started, a nice big, side of a mountain colony. While I was digging, I came upon a wall, deconstructed it, mechanism came out, burned down the colony, shot a bunch of people. Then I got to watch my favorite colonists burn to death, or bleed to death, or starve, because everyone was down. Eventually, my artillery shells exploded, finishing off the last guy. I felt really sorry for my prisoners though. They just had to suffer in their 1X2 cells while listening to the gunshots and flames getting closer and closer.

All ballistic vests must undergo testing to show that they can stop bullets. I have already addressed the second part of your post in the original post.

Well, yeah, that's true. It's not exactly AR500 plated. But still, the bruises and fractures idea still applies. However, a level 3 vest has been proven to be able to take thousands of rounds of .556, by which time they have likely taken a hit elsewhere.

Nor is it judged by its status. It's judged by its rating, like is explained here http://njlawman.com/Feature%20Pieces/Body%20Armor.htm

If you were not aware, real life body armor will stop ALL bullets to the area it protects, as long as it's rated for them. For example, a level three vest can stop .556 all day, but an AP .308 will go right through. It won't stop some, it will stop all. And if vests degraded with every round they stopped, that would make it more realistic.

Ideas / First Aid?
August 25, 2015, 05:31:08 PM
I have lost countless colonists to blood loss in the field. What would have really helped that is first aid and trauma kits. A trauma kit could be carried in the inventory, like food. It would temporarily stop or slow down bleeding and give the colonist time to get to the hospital. However, to balance this, the use of a trauma kit would result in the use of a tourniquet, which could result in the loss of that limb. For injuries to the torso, it would make it more difficult to give aid in the hospital, taking longer or raising the chance of poor treatment, and the use of a trauma kit would increase the likelihood of the injury leaving a scar, so if your colonist was shot in the torso, it would leave an old gunshot more often. Also, with gunshots to the lung, if this was added, the lung shots Could result in open pneumothorax about 30% of the time, which could be treated with a trauma kit. The trauma kit would be researchable, and wouldn't do anything for broken bones, injuries to the kidneys, or other organs.

You've got to remember though, this is only alpha 12.
