TL;DR You play Rimworld, or use any Unity based programs/apps, do not mix it with Nahimic 2+ Audio Enhancer utility!(I uninstalled it)

Some days ago, when I started to play Rimworld, I noticed a very annoying problem in where the game would never produce any sounds, at all, and I made a post about it here too https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=43450.0 Where... no solution was found obviously. Rimworld's output log was always saying this specific line that caught my eye: "FMOD failed to initialize the output device, attempting to initialize the null output." It annoyed me a lot.

Several days passed by with no solution found on the internet either. Until now.

I use a MSI gv72vr 7rf gaming laptop, it came in with a preset installed utility called "Nahimic +2". This utility has received many positive reviews due to its sound enhancing capabilities especially suited for surround setups and stereo headsets, and this utility usually comes bundled in with the laptop's recommended Realtek HD audio driver.

What went wrong though? Well, As it happens, it seems that Nahimic 2+ and Unity(rimworld's game engine) Conflict with one another for domination of sound assets(or something like that), which causes malfunctions. In this case, Nahimic's influence was completely killing my Rimworld's output capability.

After a little bit of more research and finding out that Nahimic is not a necessary utility, I uninstalled it, both its Normal version and its VR version. Rebooted my laptop and, voila! Rimworld has sound.

Moral of the story. Do not use Nahimic 2+ when playing rimworld. In my case, I don't feel I need the features it offers, so I uninstalled it for good. I am posting this topic here to try and help those who are facing the same problem as I did. Please consider putting it as a sticky maybe? Because this problems seems to have been reported very, very few times. So few that maybe people gave up on trying to find a solution.

I give up. For some reason, my laptop(which by the way is a very capable gaming platform) is part of the 0.2% of machines that has a problem with starting Rimworld correctly.

This is the output log. The "FMOD failed to initialize the output device, attempting to initialize the null output." annoys me.

Feel free to close this thread, I dont seem to be getting much help from here anyways :/

Remember, the microphone is not the problem, although thank you for the advice. The main problem is specifically that The Game Does Not Produces Any Sound Whatsoever. :(

3rd day. Realtek Drivers updated. Microphone jack got screwed up with the update. Reverted back to previous version(MSI laptop's reccomended from official page). At least i can still voice chat now lol. Rimworld 's sound is still missing completely.

Found post with apparent solution(did not work):

https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=29398.0
*Disable sound blaster enhancments checkbox in speaker propities did the trick. Turning them all off in creative control panel did nothing but this seems to have fixed it.*
(they say)

I tried it but... Problem found. My sound options do not show any "Sound Enhancements" tab in it. Damn it Windows 10 wtf.

Im back to the start.  :-\

Bugs / Where is the sound?(unsolved)
August 23, 2018, 09:33:17 PM
I purchased Rimworld three days ago, installed through steam, and to my dismay, the game seems to be totally silent. Even though i have done everything I could imagine to fix it... from the mundane and basics of double and triple checking the in-game sound sliders and my own laptop's sound system... to even the somewhat more advanced workarounds such as updating, or even... completely uninstalling and reinstalling sound drivers.

I cant seems to make this game's sound work at all. Please could someone give me a hand on this...? Been researching on internet and very few instances of this bug seem to happen, none of their answers were replied.

Sound is simply nonexistent with this game only, other games seems to work just fine.

I've been playing with this mod for some time and I must say, im satisfied with it, it is very convenient, and time saving. However I have noticed one small thing.
Pawns using the stove to make bulk meals do not get cooking experience as much as they would by cooking one meal at a time. Its a bit weird, but I guess it makes sense lol, i'll still add a lesser bill to make individual meals to balance this out, I like my cooks to be skilled :P

Hm, strange. I attempted to remedy that early after initial release. Maybe I missed something.
Wait, dont, I just tested it in a fake colony with two paws with similar traits, cooking level, and cooking exp, and the pawn cooking bulk did actually earn more exp than the one cooking single(Bulk earned about 350 more exp than single after each one cooked exactly 50 meals with both methods(10x for bulk and 50x regular meals for single))... my bad sorry! I must have been too sleepy or something when I posted the "issue" :s

Realistic Darkness was actually easy to work around into A16, all that had to be done was to change the Target Version, and its done.

What I am interested on is Increased Forest Density, which throws an error when changing the Target Version. It seems to be incompatible, saddly. I think it makes sense since A16 modifies world generation a bit with the addition of Raidable faction bases.

If someone could upload the standalone versions of Increased Forest Density mods for Non-Steam users, I'd highly appreciate it.
