So just wanted to check, does the Drafted Hunt option no longer give you the ability to only hunt designated animals? I saw an earlier post which mentioned this feature being buggy, but wanted to try to get confirmation.

Currently using 3.6.1 Allow Tool on RimWorld 1.0.2282

General Discussion / Re: Can you rename pets?

Honestly, I really like that the colonists will name the animals. Similar to how you can only change a colonists nickname not their "real" name, it gives the game a little more depth and realism. Plus, situations like this can make for a very nice story, albeit a sad one in this case.

I kinda like how they get auto named - being able to name them myself takes away from this.

My short lived rhino could attest to this - I wanted her, she was the only large animal on my map. Old, carter acts in both eyes and a touch of dementia but I Jon didn't mind. Every day for nearly a year he went out their to feed her. She never never attacked him, but he couldn't win her over.

Then one day we had a large raid. We numbered 7 while they were to many to count. They started preparing for an attack we couldn't hold back, we couldn't survive. Everyone had a full day doing whatever it is they wanted while they waited for the inevitable.

They attacked. We opened fire. Spy took a round in the heart, Spike had a leg blown off, both by snipers outside of my range.  Everything was on fire. Everyone alive fell back to a last stand.

Then I noticed that not as many raiders were charging the door as I expected. Turns out that somewhere during all this She snapped and started attacking raiders. She killed a lot, specifically the snipers. Everyone charged out of the bunker and in a tooth and nail battle, managed to retake the colony.

It was that I noticed She had been shot. A lot. Shredded legs, and multiple gunshots. Jon carried (?!?!?!) her to a bed and in between tending to the colonists wounds, he tended to hers.

But we didn't have any medicine. The small amount we did have was quickly used.  She developed multiple infections. Jon still tended to her each day. On the third day he won her over. Even through the pain that undoubtably raked her body in those final hours, she still managed to show that she knew he cared, that it wasn't his fault. In what was to be our final moments she came to our rescue, and in hers all we could do was watch. He named her Helplessness.

She died before morning.

But I would still like the option to rename the animals myself, while maybe keeping the name the colonists give as a "nickname" for the animal. Rahjital hit the nail on the head with this comment:

I like the animal naming after nuzzling, it shows that colonists get attached to the animals, and sometimes you get a little gem:

Still, I would like to be able to name animals myself. I already do this with colonists and it works well to make me more attached to them, to the point where I would probably reload after every game if I wasn't playing permadeath. On the other hand, the animal names are kinda generic (I have had at least four huskies named "Paulette") and once you get more animals they all just start blending together. Perhaps we should be allowed to rename the animals colonists already named themselves?

When I play the game I almost always work on trying to get some kind of animal husbandry going. Usually I start with chickens and eventually move on to muffalo, deer,  or wild boar ranching. Not only can this provide you with tons of eggs/meat and leather. You can sell the extra stock to traders for a pretty penny.

But it gets very frustrating when every chicken you own is named chick [1,2,3...ad infinitum]. I would really prefer an easy in-game method of renaming the animals so I can better keep track of which of my birds are roosters, which are hens, and who's the offspring/sibling of whom. Currently, the only way is to click on each one individually.

I don't think inbreeding is a thing in the game, but I also work on trying to prevent those kinds of situations too. This is just my play style admittedly, but I would like a way to name my animals so I can keep better track of my animal's lineages and families. Plus, since the game will reuse names if an animal dies, this gets even more confusing. Although in the case of the chickens specifically, I just really don't like how they are all always stuck with the name "Chick #."
