Ideas / Re: I want to go full 90's in this game.
November 06, 2016, 12:42:18 AM
I want to go full 80's in this game.

* Screw gender equality. I want the following modifiers to colonists of the female sex:

- Additional slot (two?) for implants, +3 Sexiness

* Colonists from both sexes (yes, I don't even want to pander to use the word "gender") cannot have Tons of Lovin' in groups less than 4 people. This means no to Teetotaler and Staggeringly Ugly traits.

* Female colonists can still do everything male colonists can, especially with equippable horseshoe pin. All other things remain what they are.

* Two days out of every season, colony have to host rave parties.

* Colonists get more Tons of Lovin' per day. Example: from 1 per night to 5-6 per day.

* Every person who disagree with my proposal will be sold to slavery because I don't like you at all.

Thanks.

I believe that single thing Tynan could multi thread safely is decision making system. But it could be easier to optimize something else and keep the code single threaded.

Here's three changes I think will make combat pets much more viable:

  • Assigned animals should be toggleable between Combat and Noncombat. Combat animals accompany their masters when drafted; noncombat animals don't. It's a pain to manually unassign animals before combat and reassign them afterwards just because I don't want Charlie's bonded mutt getting shot.
  • Assigned animals currently wander randomly up to 2 squares away from a drafted master. This means they wander around cover out into the open and promptly get shot. Drafted animals should stay adjacent to their master, take cover beside their master, and when all else fails have a Prone state where they lay down on the ground (similar to sleeping) to reduce their chance of being hit.
  • When released, attack animals should have a burst of speed to quickly close the gap between them and their target.
This man speaks wise; listen to him.
I should add that noncombat animals should flee from dangers just like colonists do.

General Discussion / Re: zzzt can happen under floors?

I'm talking about http://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Events#Faulty_Conduit_Explosion
I don't know, maybe Tynan reduced chances of this happening, but it was greatly frustrating in 0.9.x-0.11.x versions. I am pretty sure about two things:
1) It is totally random and happens in random conduit of powered grid with even partly charged batteries connected.
2) Explosion radius depends on power stored.
Before fueled generators, I was dividing my base in three power grids separated by switches:
Main grid: solar panels, electrical devices like stoves and heaters/coolers and few batteries just enough to cover day/night cycle of charging/discharging.
Security grid: Sentry guns. Lot of them.
Power bank: something like 10-20 of batteries in separate stone block building.
Power bank was usually disconnected from grid, unless I had to power security grid or charge it back.

I wasn't really happy using it because of some annoying routine of switching grids and, mainly, because it isn't really prevent Zzzzts but is simply reducing it to 3 or 4 flames.

3 or 4 fueled generators generate enough power to research steam generators (it's power equivalent to 1 cooler, few heaters, about 6 or 7 sentries and workbenches). Since they have stable power output, no batteries needed => no Zzzzts will happen.

So then the only purpose of Zzzzt is to force players to spend an extra dozen steel putting a bit of sacrificial conduit in a fireproof chamber next to their batteries, or to punish newbies who haven't figured out this strange system yet.
Can you explain it further, please? I found random Zzzzts so frustrating so I always go into fueled generators since their appeared in the game. Stockpile of wood replaces battery room for me.

QuoteGosh, this dude is actually gonna take six 18s with serious face. Good thing I never had such players in my parties.

I have rolled a legit D&D char with 3 18s before. on 3d6.

Also had a double 18s double 17s. Cheesy? Of course, but that is the point of a cheese speed run.

If you wish to disallow weighting traits using the scenario system to save us some time, then go ahead. I can still probably launch the ship before day 4 anyway with some heavy rerolling of starting people. This was just an exercise in seeing how fast it was possible to go, without having to do the same boring game 30 times before we got it right.
Chances of getting Neurotic, Nudist and Industrious at same time is roughly 1 to 30000 per attempt not taking cases like Sheriff background. If you roll one character per second, you have to spend 20 hours to have 90% chance of such character generated and 40 hours to have 99% chance of it. Multiply it by 3 since you have 3 colonists. Showing us the case which is practically unachievable during a normal play is not the best way to demonstrate Rimworld balance issues.

Also, I don't care about characters with 2 or 3 18s. Characters with 6 18s are my single passion. It is not really polite to replace one extremely rare case with other not-so-rare case in middle of argument, you know.

Fun fact: If you use 4d6 Drop the Lowest character generation system in DnD and make one roll per second 16 hours per day, you would need about 35 thousands of years to have 90% probability of getting character with best stats possible.

So if someone did have 18s in most stats, you would accuse them of cheating too?

Interesting.  ::)

Answering you question, I would usually call that player lucky one. Unless he tell me

"Well if I would have infinite time to discard characters and create new ones I would eventually roll 18 to every ability. So I just took 18s to save time. It is not doctored start."
In case of that streamer you are fiercely defending by some reason, it is not luck. It is modified scenario.

I would like to see this guy playing Dungeons and Dragons.

"Dude, why the hell your character has 18 in every single ability score?"

Make sieges rarer.
Seriously, I've got 3 sieges from the same faction in a row and two of them at the same time.

I had dude with trait "Dislikes women" and dudette with trait "Masochist". They started social fight, then they beat shit out of each other and on the next day became lovers.

Rimworld: Fifty shades of pawns. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Did the masochist or the woman start the fight?
Woman had masochist trait, man had "dislikes woman" trait. He insulted her, she started social fight.

General Discussion / Re: Breakdown event

Do you have components? Can you prioritize it manually? (Select pawn with repairing enabled then right-click on your broken battery. There should be option like "Prioritize fixing this battery". This option can be locked with message of explanation why it's impossible, like: "Tynan is not a repairer")

General Discussion / Confession
August 30, 2016, 05:07:23 AM
I started playing Rimworld at 11a and it was downloaded from torrents one. Sad thing, I weren't making good money last year so I decided to wait for a better times to buy it. At some point, I was shameless enough to register on forums to make some suggestions and whining. By this moment, I told about this game pretty much every friend I have. But when 15a was released I was too impatient to wait it to be uploaded to torrents and spent some bucks to purchase steam copy :)

Morale of the story: don't fight piracy, it's good for publicity and gives you profit in long run anyway (if this is not in-game pirate raids).

The discussion and encouragement of piracy is not allowed. (Forum Rule 6)

More sane surgery failures.

I send my colonist to get a cataract removed, he ends up withut a leg, or lung or heart.
WTF?
"- Patient has cataract.
- Cut out heart? OKAY"
or
"- Patient has cataract.
- Caterwhat? It is located in lungs, right? Okay, hold him tight!"
