First off I love the idea, and it takes some true character to not make a creation modeled after you into some deity like figure. I might have to try this; although I am afraid of this turning into something like that movie Stay Alive  ;D.

Can't believe Stout the Oaf thought it would be a good time to try and woo the bride at her wedding. At any rate, this caused him to go into a daze and is now pouting outside of the chapel like a sad puppy  ::).

Haha! I don't want to imagine what that implies, but still some of these names definitely give me a good chuckle.

So my revered master just made a beaut of a weapon, but I can't say I am not worried about his mental state.

Stories / Re: Your Best Screenshots
October 05, 2016, 11:32:22 PM
Hello all,

I have played through numerous colonies on Rimworld, this game is to addictive btw  :), and I figured I would share my latest creation. A colony I am pretty happy with.

A few notes
- I did not use any mods this is pure vanilla
- I played on permadeath mode with no attempts at save scumming
- I did not use developer mode or any other such cheats
- Making yayo may not be the most profitable according to some reddit forums, but it is definitely the most fun. Viva la Pablo Escobar!!!

Anyways enjoy these screenshots!

Ideas / Re: A Robust Research System

+1

As a biotechnologist I know how much the cost of research can be. Imagine paying $250 for 100 µl of a particular solution that's $250 for 100 millionth's of a liter! Although I don't think the costs should be too high, for gameplay's sake. Reality is great, but in part I play Rimworld to get a break from the reality around us much like many of our hobbies.

Some suggestions

-Health risks involved: When researching drugs, medical bed, vitals monitor, and anything else of a chemical/life science fashion there is a possibility of your researcher getting sick (flu, malaria, infection, whatever). I think it's too complicated to implement the dangers of research with the more nasty chemicals on a lab bench (phenol, sulfuric acid, etc...)

-Other research will carry possibility of risk but I will leave that to you all to ponder those dangers.

-Resource cost of research should be like filling a bucket. For example researching pemmican requires 400 points of time and 100 food ingredients, or something more intense like component assembly requires X amount of time and 300 steel. These resources can be changed, but I believe they should all be readily available resources that are not difficult to replace like components. This is once again for gameplay's sake not for realities sake.

-Or you could simply implement a cost system. Costs 50 silver to fund research for pemmican or 375 silver to fund component assembly (50 silver per 400 points of research time).
Anyways, I like the idea but I do see a lot of people complaining about this slowing their game down. I for one am an avid city management gamer and I appreciate the slow climb to perfection as you desperately cling to life while waiting for hydroponics research  :).

Native English speaker here. That name is fine and there is no hidden meaning, but American-English speakers will probably pronounce it as something like the word excess. 'ex siss'

Ideas / Re: Sanitation System
August 12, 2016, 11:39:58 AM
@JimmyAgnt007 Yeah I now realize it is a frequent suggestion. I am new to the game (~1 month), and I did not know that this was a frequent suggestion yet. I just thought it would be a good idea...my bad. :)

Also I don't want the colonists to actually have to use the bathroom, but more like the colonists produce so much filth/day. You need a 'dumping' stockpile/workbench within a certain radius of a colonist or else they just let loose wherever they happen to be. You can than transport the filth to your main sewer, wherever that may be. Also I wouldn't use human waste is fertilizer, but absolutely would use animal waste...maybe you could have animal dung and human dung. Anyways I will be more conscious of the frequent suggestions list in the future, and try not to repost that which is already been said.

Ideas / Sanitation System
August 11, 2016, 02:22:46 AM
Tynan,

I know this game is already difficult enough as it is, but could there be some addition of a rudimentary sanitation system. For example you could zone areas for the 'dumping' of unspeakables, and have that filth flow through some sort of sewer system. This wouldn't just be an extra burden on the player however, you could use the filth for explosives or even for some sort of disgusting trap system that will break pirate morale before they even reach the base. But, if you don't keep up with it you can spawn anything from roaches to rats...just a thought.

Hahaha! I play nothing but permadeath, and I have never seen a name like that. This game has a sick sense of humor.

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!
August 04, 2016, 02:16:23 PM
Hi everyone! My name is Mitch, which is short for Mitchell and has the unfortunate setback of rhyming with several other awful words. Anyways I am new to Rimworld but not city management sims. Right now I am hooked on Rimworld like you would not believe, especially since it happens in space. Currently I am prepping for graduate school, where I hope to attend a program in Astrobiology.

-What introduced you to Rimworld? Or to this style of game in general?
I started playing management sims after watching an excellent lp youtuber named Aavak (phenomenal btw...truly a must see). I delayed on getting Rimworld because life threw other things my way until just recently however.

-What's your favorite other game?
I know its probably to 'mainstream' to be cool, but I love Skyrim and feel as if it has given me the highest level of immersion, enjoyment, and down right entertainment value of any game out there. Although Rimworld might be a competitor :).

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
So I was playing Farcry 3 when the most embarrasing thing happened. Keep in mind that I have never played a Farcry game before. Anyways here I was collecting pretty blue flowers from a stagnant pond when BAM!!! A massive set of crocodile jaws blots out the tv screen. Not surprisingly I sprung off my couch screaming bloody murder. The only reason I survived in game is because I was so pumped with fear-induced adrenaline I went into the flight or fight response. Long story short I was in a full standing position and one step away from a panic attack.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Well my mom had the awful notion that oatmeal was better for us...so I didn't really develop a favorite as a kid. So I am gonna go with boring old Life cereal, any kind.
