General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!
January 27, 2017, 11:50:40 AM
- What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
Pretty easy to answer, positive steam reviews. Also seemed to fullfill my need for some more relaxing gameplay (well, I guess everything is relative).

- What's your favorite other game?
I used to play Warcraft III and Starcraft II on a pretty high level so they win out, even though I rarely play SCII anymore.

- Most embarassing gaming-related story?
Breaking my keyboard in public after losing in a Warcraft III event many years ago. I am by nature a sore loser, but I was way worse in my "youth".

- What kind of breakfast cereal is best?
I look at cereals with utter contempt, I find no joy in consuming them whatsoever.  However if fictive cereals are to be included I would definitely go with mint-berry crunch.

Other stuff:

- Finding that buying the mercenary pack before actually having a good character name and backstory was probably a mistake. I am using way too much time trying to come up with a good character these days.

General Discussion / Re: Mortars: Useful or not?
January 27, 2017, 11:37:46 AM
Even though feedback is probably plentiful by now and mine doesn't bring anything new to the table I will just drop my quick thoughts.

- They seem to be one of, if not the least cost efficient way of defending your colony.
- For me, I can never find the time to prioritize the research early enough. Hence, they become available later in the game, when they are even less useful imo.
- That being said, I dont find them being bad or terrible in any way, but they are the "lesser" option.

Ideas / Re: Appointments with a doctor
January 23, 2017, 02:04:22 PM
Quoted this in another thread as well, but I agree on this being a solid suggestion. You could always tweak with the percentages to make it more or less "balanced". You could alternatively make it such that it reveals disease probability etc. It would at least make it somewhat easier to plan ahead.

When disease strikes, pawns don't start at 1% disease progress. The disease has been developing for a while, and you only just now got symptoms.

What if you could set a medical bed and in the "operations" tab schedule regular medical exams ? The ability of early detection of a disease would depend on the Medicine skill of the doctor. Many diseases should be avoidable if detected sufficiently early. The better your doctor, the earlier you detect.

Ideas / Re: Write an event!

I agree on this being a good idea. Diseases can be extremely hard-hitting, especially when only having one good doctor in your colony (which happens quite often). When a disease appears on your doctor with 65/50 %-rates you are basically fucked. Which is OK I guess, but this would at least open for the oppurtunity for a second-rate doctor to actually save the day.

Circus
Why not a good event to change.
A circus comes to your base, you can either let it pass, or pay it to make a representation giving mood bonus to all colonists watching the show.
The circus is composed of five-six pawns, some bears, dromadories, one rhinoceros and other typical circus animals. It builds one tent composed of one wood wall in each corner, one in the center and roof on the designated area.
They have enough food for them and their animals and belong to a already existing foreigner faction (to avoid to let the player pay them then kill them without penalty).
