A huge part of the games inner workings is built on KILLING a colonist every now and then.
It is also built around recovering from that death... You can lose all but one colonist and if they pull through the game will weight the next events to recovery.

Good work.
Also, this topic could only exist on this forum.
Thank you rimworld for being what you are.

"Not buying"(read: pirating) rimworld at this point is on par with drowning kittens in the level of terribleness.

...

Maybe we should have a nice cup of a tea and a sad wander instead of a murderous rage?

Also, that person who posted about defending the cat hidden in the heart of the fortress to the last man might disagree with your valuation  ;D  Goodness, but this is an awesome game :)

My friend... I once murdered an entire game map over the loss of twinkles the cat. The first rule of my colonies is "The cat lives in a fortified bunker" and "if the cat dies to reload. If reloading is not an option Death.

Rimworld is...:
1] 99.9% bug free.
2] Is exactly  100% what it says on the tin.
3] Probably the highest-rated game in the last twenty years by aggregated average.
4] Has almost as many mods as Skyrim... and rimworld mods are not all duct tape and a prayer code wise.
5] Tynan and the team earned every ounce of praise they've gotten for this title by the quality of their product.

"Not buying"(read: pirating) rimworld at this point is on par with drowning kittens in the level of terribleness.

Honestly, if a single title ever deserved dollars to be spent rimworld is that poster child. Any other purchase you make game wise is going to have some level of "you got screwed".

If you want an entirely hands-off combat system try doing a melee only game(various mods for this) and only use the "search and destroy" mod for your part in the fight.

Because it's melee there isn't much you could really do anyway besides positioning(which you can still do if you want) and they'll do a pretty decent job on their own.

Okay, Nevermind Just kidding... Maybe not a Cooking game. :P

Cutthroat Kitchen Rimworld Edition.

I'd watch it.

If you play rimworld as a city builder or top down RTS/adventure game you will get bored and quit. Rimworld mechanically can be boiled down to tiny rooms and extreme efficiency. If you like that go for it.. its challenging in its own right.

The fun of rimworld is in the absurd. Tell a story... and then let it play out roguelike.

An example I can give is my last mountain base. I had a map which had the entire middle N>S entirely open as a valley with darn near solid mountains E/W. I setup on the east mountain and let the insects in the west do whatever they wanted. Eventually, I walled in the insects and made the area almost shrinelike. Then I made a self-rule that any new recruit had to immediately run naked through the insects to collect 3 stacks of insect jelly or else they would be locked in with the insects until they starved, died, or completed the task.

Made the game fun, absurd, and interesting. Plan to be absurd and tell a story.

General Discussion / Re: Should i buy this game?

Rimworld has not had an update since January because Tynan released the game and took a well-deserved break. Considering the product he released has a 97+% approval rating and sold over a million copies... well I can say he earned it way more than most developers :D.

The game is arguably even better now that it's finalized because mods finally have a chance to grow without interruption. If you liked the game before you will still like the game today.

As to future updates... well Tynan said he isn't "done" with rimworld but that doesn't mean you will see updates at the same pace as before. He spent 5 years on this game alone which is a pretty hefty time investment for a developer. Just remember Rimworld is now a "poster child" for how indy early access games should be done. If it never receives another update at all it is STILL better than 99.9% of the garbage even triple-A developers release today.

Don't feel terrible about "borrowing" a friends account. Again rimworld has probably converted more "pirates" to "payers" than just about any other game out there. Only the hard cases are going to judge you for trying before you buy. The only time its ever really "bad" is if you do something dumb like play 500 hours and never give the devs a dime for their time.

There was a post a while back by Tynan that(and I'm paraphrasing) went something like:

Player tells a story about how their pawns had a really hard winter and they resulted to cannibalism of burried colonist corpses after eating everything else living on the map.

Tynan said, "You can't know how happy this makes me."

It was one of the best examples possible to explain how Rimworld touches a player and tells a story. It's dark.. but that's not the point. It shows how insanely deep the game can be on a psychological and gameplay level when it's not just an "oh no food you die>reload" and rather you actually CAN survive... if you choose to and have the gumption to do so. I've always kinda wanted that kind of trailer. The steam one just really doesn't explain this element of the game... it comes off as combat mostly.

why did you vote nothing new?
I didn't vote. I disagree with the design of the poll as you do not include any option other than "rimworld>rimworld like".

LIES!

I see no cups of coffee.
I see no pizza.
I see a clean desk.

WTF is this sorcery? This is not a devs desk!

Just because someone might be curious I want to expand on something Jibbles said about game size.

Most games are actually pretty small "code" wise. What causes "AAA" titles to be gigabytes is sound and textures. If its an internationally released game any video or voice overs are duplicated for localization purposes and can balloon game sizes in a hurry.

Rimworld... has none of those issues graphically and as such it can be both technically very complex and feature-rich but also very small in file size.

The.  Movie.  "Kids".  Was.  And. Is.  Perfectly.  Legal.  Haven't seen it, have you?  Because yes, it depicts underage sex.

Sorry, no.  You aren't as well-informed as you believe you are.

Shits and giggles time. I just finished watching this movie with the aforementioned mental health professionals I used to work with.
Explicit talk. Limited nudity. No minor nudity. Actors above the technical legal sexual age. All scenes explicitly crafted to ensure they did not cross the razor edge into CP. Suggestion is only act when explicitly depicted. Explicit description is not act without nudity. We also actually checked the related movie laws of GB, Canada, and america. My previous statements still stand as accurate.

Yes. I do know exactly what I'm talking about with this subject. I know it well enough to know how the people who do this kind of garbage have to tread a fine line for their perversions and how they continue to lobby to legalize their perversions. I also know why its the one issue that will make war hardened agents break down into full blown sobbing tears... and I know this fact very intimately.

As this is a video game forum though and all possible information on why a masturbation mod could have been incorrectly moderated as CP or automatically moderated by complaint of uninformed individuals this will be the last post on CP subject matter by me. If you want to further educate yourself with how to spot, handle, and prevent CP contact me via PM.

On a pure feature count Rimworld is probably more feature rich than BFV. The only real downsides to rimworld are its graphics(and some of us like the graphics).

On the other coin remember Rimworld is also one of the highest rated games on steam and has been its entire development cycle. I know it seems like a lot of money but it most certainly is worth it if the gameplay is in your interest. Go look at some youtube videos or twitch videos and see if you like the game before you buy it.

Also remember.. mods mods mods!

Um, no.  Again, if it doesn't show *an actual sexual act* (literally showing penetration, NOT just suggesting it's happening) yes, it is legal in depiction.  You don't get to gainsay SCOTUS, sorry.

Ever seen the movie "Kids"Legal.  And that's live action, to boot.
The Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 was struck down on only two points. The original wording of CPPA could have been construed as anything remotely resembling an underaged person which would, in fact, restrict freedom of speech without actually engaging in anything nefarious(Romeo and Juliet comes to mind). The strike did not convert any aspect of CP laws to allow CP of any kind and it remains fully illegal in America under the previously listed points.

It again boils down to the on the spot definition of what constitutes an underaged person and what constitutes a sexual act. This is explicitly  not defined very well and is considerably different between states. One state may suggest dry humping is sex. Another requires penetration. Age also varies between 14 and 18. Due to free trade with Mexico, we also have to consider it can be as low as 12. In the event of a federal crime(such as CP) The general stance is to take the least extreme starting position. Especially with media which travels across borders state or national.
Its the "sims" category again. If you explicitly describe or display the act it is considered the act. If you just have two actors above the age of 14 grunting and groaning in the back seat of a car with no physical nudity displayed that is NOT considered a violation at this time. The supreme court decision was NOT in reference to this interpretation of CP. It was EXCLUSIVELY in reference to the CPPAs wording being too ambiguous as to allow situations in which someone who APPEARS young to be considered as REPRESENTING a child.

Even in the film being discussed before it was allowed to begin filming the MPAA required the age be altered to comply with CP regulations. These types of films are always treading a very fine razor's edge. Hell, the only reason the book is allowed is due to its historical status similar to Romeo and Juliet.

If you are wondering about my references to this... I once took a long stint helping PTSD victims as I've suffered from the condition myself and didn't eat a bullet getting over it. I didn't know when I agreed that two of the victims were children. I've since ensured any who ask are fully aware of their rights and obligations concerning this topic.
