Could you make it so that colonists can't pass through them, but enemies can? If the proximity range is only directly on top of the device, that should keep them from pathing over it.

Bugs / All power in use = No power
June 18, 2014, 09:39:01 PM
So I was messing around with the perfect optimization of power, and got it down to 1 thermal generator = exactly 25 lights.

So I build 25 lights hooked them up to 1 generator and... Nothing turned on. They all had the right power flow, but nothing came on until I removed 1 light from the grid.

It seems you can not consume every last watt of energy to power things; you need at least 1w unused.

Ideas / Advanced Starting Colonist Options
June 18, 2014, 06:38:59 PM
Since we can just hit random until we get something we want, I don't think it would be too much to ask for an advanced system that will allow using a point buy type system to create the first 3 (or more or less) colonists manually; sort of like Dwarf Fortress's advanced embark.

Ideas / Re: Colonist wandering zones

Kill two birds with one stone: Set up watch posts and sentry zones, where they can idle and still be useful by engaging any hostiles on sight in the designated areas.

Just have the zones only in use when a settler has no other jobs to do. The only people who don't (even if idle) would be those incapable of violence. Those hippies can wander around everywhere, smelling flowers or whatever. :P

Ideas / Re: Prisoner Zones

I've been wanting to do the same thing. I have a prison area with a closed in yard, but it would be nicer for aesthetics (and security) if I could have the sleeping area seperated from the outside yard with a door.

Ideas / Seperate the Repair Zone
June 16, 2014, 06:12:16 AM
Having the home area automatically designate reparing and cleaning is great for interior areas; but not so much for exterior areas.

There are things like outside walls and turrets I want to keep repaired, but I don't need my cleaning ladies sweeping up the sand around them, too.

Just having one or two more zone choices would fix this. Keep the home zone to have both, and have either just a seperate repair zone, or have both a seperate repair and cleaning zone (though I can't imagine why you'd want to clean something you wouldn't also want repaired).
