Ideas / Re: Don't eat the whole grass!!!
March 01, 2019, 07:07:41 PM
Oh yes, please! My thrumbo ranch consumes an awful lot of haygrass. I pasture the beasties away from the growing areas, so that the plants are harvested only when 100% mature. But that also means double labor (planting and harvesting). If animals would graze properly, like most every earthling ruminant does by instinct, that would make any ranch more realistic and fun.

Releases / Re: [1.0] Prepare Landing (v0.9.2)

Wow, this is so useful! Thank you!

I enjoy the early game, so I'm constantly starting a new colony. Highways and rivers are cool, and I always want granite and marble... Yeah I'm kinda picky about my starting tile. You just saved me a lot of searching.

My in-game mods list says this is for [b19]. Did I get the wrong version? Seems to work just fine though in [1.0].

Releases / Re: [1.0] Terrain Zone Selections

Sorry, I posted in your thread by mistake. Your version number matches, just fine. Very handy tool, too! I'm so tired of dithering around the edges of the rich soil, etc. Thank you for making this!

Same thing with doors. It drives me crazy when baddies can just wander through because something dropped there.
Workaround:  put a stockpile zone on that tile with no allowed items.

I would use this all the time.

I agree with you guys. Hopefully this becomes possible.

Until then, what I do is launch a couple of pods to a nearby tile with the requested items and one constructor pawn, plus enough materials to make another pod and launcher for the return trip. Upon arrival, the landing tile becomes an outpost. The constructor then builds their return vehicle, walks over to the requesting faction, makes the trade, then returns to the new outpost to be launched home. That seriously cuts into profits, but it does kinda work. Also, the constructor can mine/gather a few things in their outpost before returning.

Ideas / watchtowers and turrets
September 23, 2018, 01:06:58 AM
Two ideas I've been pining for:
• Watch Towers
A simple tower which a pawn might "climb" above obstacles to get line-of-sight and a range bonus for their ranged weapon. It could be just like the watch towers in Stronghold. Construction costs some wood, metal, or stone blocks, perhaps about the same cost as a wind turbine but no components. The range bonus would depend on the height, so proportional to the cost. It would be operated just like the mortars are now.
• A change to improvised automatic turrets
Why are colonists able to build automatic turrets while still unable to build equivalent handheld weapons? Instead, i propose the improvised turrets should be more like computer controlled tripods, which can aim and fire whatever ranged weapon you attach to it.

Ideas / Re: Handheld Shields

Reminds me of the Assault Shield in Xenonauts.

I would love to see this become available in RimWorld!

Ideas / Re: Thrumbos should grow up faster.
September 23, 2018, 12:49:53 AM
Hopefully this post is helpful, and not just an annoying necro. My b18 colony is a Thrumbo Ranch. Basically I used Prepare Carefully to modify the "Rich Explorer" start. (Same points value, with less starting resources, no pet, and a mating pair of thrumbos.) Obviously we still have only the original pair, but Snuffy has become quite the melee weapon! I've kept a few screenshots for a future report. If anyone is interested in observations, just let me know. I'll be happy to share.

Ideas / Re: Written Story Capture in Real-time
September 22, 2018, 03:32:54 PM
I really like your idea of weighting events by mood impact. The result would be not quite a proper work of fiction, but more like an AI-generated story. The player could then fill in subtleties if they want.

We all love the stories that come out of each RimWorld scenario. By automating some of the tedium, more of these stories could be shared.

Releases / Re: [B19] Crash Landing (v12.00) (02-09-2018)

Just another fanmail. Crash Landing is awesome! When the scenario editor came out, the first thing I did was attempt to make a (lame version of a) crashed starship scenario. So thank you for making this! Saved me a lot of time, and you did a much better job too.

While a neat idea, it would require a near complete overhaul of the vanilla map generator. Unless it were a commission, I'm steering well clear of that :)
Yikes! Ok I agree, don't do that. Thanks for the kind and swift reply!

Hi! Thanks for making Map Reroll, I'm really enjoying it! Usually I play vanilla, but sometimes I want to set up a specific situation. So having more control over the terrain and geysers is very handy.

Would it be possible to add a button to recenter a map around the home area? I keep finding good situations located close to the edge of the map. They would work, but I hate it when raids appear right next to my wall, and also some resources are a long walk away. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a tool to "Recenter Map" around the home area? The tool would delete cells far from home, and generate the same number of cells on the opposite side. In effect, the map edges would move, putting the home area dead center.

I originally put this request in the general forum, but the idea would fit nicely into your mod too.

Mods / Re: [mod request] Recenter Map

Thanks for the responses. Yah, map reroll is real nice!
For a moment there, I saw its button for "change map size" and hoped it would shrink my map and recenter in the process. But no, that's the default size for future maps. Drat. But I'll request in the Map Reroll thread.

Mods / [mod request] Recenter Map
September 05, 2017, 01:49:53 AM
So I've been spending too much time lately trying to find a good spot to build. I keep finding good situations located close to the edge of the map. They would work, but I hate it when raids appear right next to my wall. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a tool to "Recenter Map" around the home area? The tool would delete cells far from home, and generate the same number of cells on the opposite side. In effect, the map edges would move, putting the home area dead center.
