I had a refugee kid show up chased by tribal bandits.  I killed the bandits no problem and took the kid in.  He had decent shooting skills so I sent him out hunting and unfortunately picked a wild boar for him to kill.  He lost.  It took numerous gorings to put him down and its doubtful he'd have been worth salvaging after the 1st couple.  When somebody else showed up and killed the boar, it was too late for the kid.  So we cut him up and put him in the pot with the boar meat.  Seemed fitting.

Say as much or as little as you like.

I'm old.  I learned programming with punchcards.  I've had an interesting life although it's never amounted to anything.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
One of my nephews gave it to me for my birthday recently.  I've played a number of games kinda like this over the years but nothing so twisted.  And I mean that in a good way.

-What's your favorite other game?
For the last few years it's been Kerbal Space Program, although I've recently gotten heavily into Kingdom Come Deliverance now that it's finally out.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
Spilling half a gallon of beer on my keyboard at an Aces High convention.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Oatmeal.

Stories / First Game - BOOBYTRAPPED

Howdy all!  1st-time poster.  I just got the game last night and spent most of this afternoon watching how-to videos as the in-game tutorial leaves much unexplained.  Anyway, after several hours of watching videos, I felt I was finally ready to give this a go.

So I spent a good long while setting things up.  I re-generated the world several times after scouring the maps and not finding places I thought were inviting.  Then I spent a good while re-generating my 3 starter castaways until I had a good mix of skills.  Then, once the game started, I spent a good deal of time looking over the map for the best place to start.  Finally, I was happy and got my gals (all 3 were women) stockpiling supplies, planting gardens, and digging out living quarters.  Things were working rather well and the colony was starting to take shape after a couple days.

But then they ran out of steel before they could get any electrical power, and they hadn't found any while digging out their quarters.  What to do, what to do?  As it happened, not far from where they were tunneling, an "Ancient Marble Wall" stuck out of the side of the mountain, like there was a partially buried room there.  One of them had a really bad feeling about messing with this wall.  The others, however, were desperate for steel and figured their best chance of finding any would be behind this wall.  So they decided to make breach it on Day 4.

They were all correct about what was behind the wall.  There was plenty of steel behind the wall.  It turned out to be a large room full of "Ancient Cryopods".  Unfortunately, these cryopods were guarded by about 8 fully functional, 2264-year old Scyther deathbots, who all had a clear line of fire to the hole in their wall.  My colonists were immediately shredded by converging megadeath beams.  2 fell immediately, the 3rd crawled on stumps a short distance before bleeding out.

Well, that didn't last long :)  I'll heed the warnings next time.
