Circumstances: As part of normal gameplay, I opened up an ancient ruin containing mechanoids at the same time as a ship part crashed into my base. Whilst dealing with the ship part, an undrafted colonist went to get the material from the wall, and was shot. Trying to get to her before she bled out, I redrafted my snipers (without a break!) and sent them to blast the mechs. Whilst fighting the mechs, critical needs started to kick in, and I had to undraft some of the fighters.
One fighter had a soft break before I could undraft him, and subsequently fell asleep in the fighting area. I noticed the last centipede taking shots at him, before it died. Then, as I took it down, a tribal raid turned up on that side of the map and attacked immediately.
What I expected to happen: I attempted to have my sole remaining fighter rescue the exhausted, sleeping colonist.
What actually happened: I was unable to rescue this "downed" colonist. The oncoming tribals did not respect this state of affairs, and he was attacked and killed in his sleep.
To duplicate: Force a colonist to work/fight until he is exhausted (or force exhaustion), then attempt to rescue him with another colonist.
Not sure why this is a thing, to be honest. Do people with no energy tend to fight back more than prisoners?
