Bugs / Can't put out fires!
April 26, 2014, 05:58:35 PM
I just had a Randy Random game come to a sudden and rather unfortunate halt. My base was on fire, and I could not put it out. Two colonists were assigned to firefighting, but they refused to do it just letting the entire base go up in smoke. I couldn't manually tell them to go to the fires, and even though it was the #1 priority, they just wandered off doing other things. Grrrr!

Every time the cavemen decide to attack me I groan a little bit. Inevitably, it will be yet another raid with twice as many bodies and basically zero loot to show for it. I gave up on trying to be friends with them because it costs like 2000 silver per tribe and one stray bullet nullifies all previous goodwill. Just before quitting for the day my 9-person colony was attacked twice in three days by tribals, and I was left to go through the tedium of disposing of very nearly 100 corpses. Not fun.

I haven't exactly scoured the Internet, but so far most of the people I've seen show Rimworld content are new to Rimworld and have difficulty with the basics of the game, maintaining food/power supplies, and surviving small raiding parties.

I'd love to see more from players who are at least where I'm at (can consistently survive Random/Tough difficulty...not that its all that hard once you've played as many hours as I have). I'd love to see some advanced strategies and some really impressive base designs or even ideas I've never thought of. I know there are plenty of players like this from reading these forums, but I'd love to watch them in action. Thanks in advance.

Right now the ways to improve morale are few and only provide relatively small amounts of joy to combat the rather large negative factors. It would be nice if we could trade resources/time to improve this.

To me one of the most obvious solutions is the choice of how hard to work the colonists. Work them hard and get stuff done faster at the cost of happiness or take more breaks (even days off) to put everyone in a good mood.

Beyond that, maybe let us provide alcohol (oh no, Mike is having a drunken rampage) or snacks, better furniture, and exotic dancers!  ;D

General Discussion / Population Issues
March 06, 2014, 02:03:36 PM
After a couple of very successful runs (80+ days on casual and then 100+ days on classic) I've gotten the hang of most of the game. However, I consistently have one big problem. I can't get more than about 10-12 colonists. I can get that number by day 30 or so in most runs, but then some hidden mechanics almost entirely prevent further additions. Slavers stop coming around, wanderers don't appear, and raiders are just about fully immune to incapacitation.

I've managed to get by despite this because lately I've avoided catastrophic losses to raiding parties, but its still frustrating to be stuck for seemingly no reason.

So I guess first I would like to ask if anyone has any strategies for recruiting up to the limit consistently?

If not, is there a simple way that I mod the game to make this aspect more reasonable?
