Releases / [1.0/1.1] Smart Rats
March 04, 2020, 10:51:13 AM

Changes Rats' Trainability from Simple to Intermediate.
Meaning you can train them to guard and attack now!
That's all.

(The mod uses a patch operation, so it should be compatible with all other mods)

License - Do what you want with it. Feel free to not credit me.

Mods / Great Helm mod?
March 03, 2020, 07:44:42 PM
I can SWEAR there was a mod that added Great Helms, and nothing more (so it's not Medieval Times)
But i can't find anything about it, whatsoever. Am i going insane, or did the mod get wiped from the face of the Earth?

If it really never existed, then It'd be neat if someone made it. The helmets in Medieval Times are kinda meh

They used to, now they don't. Was it simply removed (and if so - why?), or do they give milk only after giving birth, for realism's sake?

General Discussion / Rats, we're the rats
March 01, 2020, 11:17:29 AM
Rats should have intermediate trainability
Those lil guys are highly intelligent, so seeing "Trainability : None" seems so off, and disappointing too

Edit:
Made a simple mod for it, but I still hope it becomes part of vanilla one day!

General Discussion / Sandbags nerfed?
November 12, 2018, 11:11:29 PM
I just noticed that if you place sandbags (or steel/stone chunks) next to each other, the pawns will be slowed only by the first one and walk through the rest with normal speed.

I think it's a nerf to kill-corridors filled with sandbags, but, if that's the case, that's one of the most backwards nerfs i've seen in a while, cause if you leave a free space between the sandbags, pawns get slowed by both. So kill-corridors are as viable as before - just have to be 2x longer.

Meanwhile, i use chunks and place them around my base to slow enemies, but, they don't get slowed at all (only by the first chunk) because of this bizarre mechanic.

To be honest, i really despise this kind of nerfing. The nerf done to traps really itches me too. Why go for these wacky nerfs instead of just improving the AI? Giving the players means to defend themselves and then nerfing them all (can't control mini-turrets, walls and especially doors are weaker, this pass-through nerf, traps can't be placed next to each other and get destroyed) in one way or another because they just take advantage of AI's dumbness is, well, dumb.

Mods / [Mod Request] Brain transplant
October 27, 2018, 03:41:38 PM
This would require some really heavy modding, but, if done right, you could grant your few colonists essentially immortality (especially if combined with Death Rattle mod).

I'm talking about more than just replacing one's brain like every other body part. Essentially - all skills and everything about the pawn gets replaced with the brain transplant. So if you take Jim's brain and shove it into Bob's head, you will get Jim's skills but Bob's body.

Not to make it op, it'd have to be one of the hardest surgeries and on a very limited time. I'm not 100% sure on this, but i think once a person dies, their memories are gone forever, even if you magically ressurected them. But, considering mecha serum is vanilla, a lil bit of unrealistic won't hurt anyone as long it's balanced.

Another matter - i bet some people will say that some skills are more about the body of a colonist rather than their mind (like mining for example). But that's just the limitation of vanilla.

It can't be just me who finds it ridiculous that among those hundreds of t-shirts you have stored, your colonists, even the ones who just happened to wander on your colony and join **will know that it belonged to a dead man**

Pretty smart, aren't they, i wish i could say the same when it comes to their mental breaks during battles... Anyway, my idea is simple - make all clothing from corpses and badly injured people bloody (so there's no *you're not dead yet so i'll strip you and look, it's all new* mechanic which is kinda goofy), bloody clothing could be washed using washing machines (and optionally washing powder that you can only buy, so it's not overpowered).

Also, i think that should only apply to clothing made out of textiles... **imagines shoving your power armor into a washing machine**... Yeah, that wouldn't make much sense and be very annoying, so armors shouldn't be able to get bloody.

Ideas / Armor and shield belts for animals.
July 11, 2018, 08:47:18 PM
Self-explanatory. I feel like animals are pretty useless in combat, for example they are bad for defending your ranged colonists because they wander around, often into the enemies' bullets. The only real use of animals that i can think of is using them as meat walls or for flanks with your brawlers - which requires a pretty specific scenario.

We can't control animals so adding such a feature would be tricky, but my idea is to add a button either on Animals tab or when right-clicking a specific animal, that button would open an interface similar to trading, but only with armor suitable for animals. You drag the pieces of armor you want on that specific animal and then colonist comes and puts it on the animal, which i guess would also be a bit tricky, because pawns can't equip stuff for other pawns, but still, i think it would be a pretty fun addition to the game.

A bunch of fully armored wargs equipped with shields... That's the idea. A scary one. If i was a raider, i'd flee right away.

Help / Question about Infections
June 26, 2018, 06:27:51 AM
I'm using a mod Diseases Overhauled, i don't quite like that necrosis or secondary damage equals having to amputate the body part (or death if it's the brain or torso), but i don't wanna remove it altogether. I tried making it into an infection, but what i noticed is that if two different parts have the necrosis hediff, same value of Immunity counts for both (for example, necrosis on left arm, develop 15% immunity, then get necrosis on right arm, that right arm has 15% immunity, from the start, as well)

Is there a way to make each body part have their own respective immunity?

EDIT

I was really confused as to why it didn't work, so as a test (to check if i'm just really dumb or just a lil dumb) i copied the entire vanilla WoundInfection (which works exactly the way i'm trying to make it) def, but just changed name of the def itself, and it doesn't work the same way as the original. I guess there's C# at play here. It's a shame that i'm dumb for that.

EDIT 2...

Wait... I've got a clean copy, and i tested it on vanilla. The infections actually work that way... I've been playing this game since 2015

And i never realized that. Wow. I'm a special case.

Welp, every day is a school day.

If anyone has a way to do what i'm trying to do, though, that would be welcome.

General Discussion / Another topic about scars
August 24, 2016, 11:41:45 AM
I was wondering if scars in real life really cause pain and if they weaken the tissue that much (in-game, scars are lowering HP of body parts and always cause pain).

After googling it, it seems scars can in fact cause pain, but it seems like its rather an exception, not the rule.

I'm just really annoyed because pretty much my every colonist has a scar and gets -5 or -10 (medium pain mood debuff) because of them. In my opinion there should be scars that cause pain and scars that dont (which could be random or based on more complex medical knowledge).

Also, i just noticed that a colonist with a scar on her head has lowered consciousness to 96%. I can understand scars lowering moving or manipulation capacities, but consciousness? There is really no connection between a cut scar on your skin and your consciousness.
#12
So basically, i have a colonist who have +X to research and art disabled, it comes from his childhood backstory. His adult backstory adds +Z to art and disables research. So in general, he get like nothing from both backstories. I think this should be patched, at least to the point characters wont be able to have + to something they couldnt do because of their childhood. This makes no sense, really, how can you be a scientist for example if you couldnt do research *before* becoming an adult?

General Discussion / Prostheses for animals?
April 10, 2016, 03:32:15 AM
Sooo... My poor dog lost his leg during battle with Thrumbo (and my two colonists lost their arms, but thats not a big deal :D), and my question is, are there prostheses for animals? And if no, then is there a mod for that? It would be for sure helpful, because its my new colony and i wasted so much time training that dog. And yes, its my first game for a long time, i didnt know this son of a ***** is that powerful, when he rushed at my last colonist i was like "no, no, no, no" :D ,but luckily he got him before Thrumbo even reached him.

And i play on permadeath so i couldnt just save the game before attempting to kill Thrumbo.

I think i'll create a very simple mod for that (mostly just for myself, without graphics) if there is no option to put him at his legs again. I could use developing mode, but thats kinda cheatsy.

EDIT

Oh, animals can walk without one leg. But still, he is slow (50% of original speed), so some kind of bionic leg for dogs would be helpful.

Off-Topic / I love this community! :)
March 07, 2016, 11:25:46 AM
I just had a thought to make topic like this one, i dunno, just some random improvement of mood, i guess :D

So, i just wanted to say, it's amazing how clean and healthy this forum is, it's not that easy to get banned or so here, because most admins (welp, i got some warnings i don't really agree with, but i never got banned for them, so that's ok) are generally nice people, from my experiences on other forums/games etc it's not really a common thing, most moderators think they're above the most important rule - don't be an asshole, just because they're moderators, they throw bans and warnings left and right instead of saying a single word, not to mention trying to solve a problem with a nice talk.

So props for you, admins :)

Especially props for Ramsis, when i was acting like an asshole (i don't remember what happened, honestly :D) instead of just banning me or giving warnings he talked with me, and not even in a moderator-user way, but just like a regular guy with another regular guy.

So well, love ya, everyone <3

No homo tho, haha :D (but full hetero, if you know what i mean, girls ^^)

(reader, if you're homosexual don't take my jokes seriously, i honestly don't care how someone look or what he is doing as long he is a nice person and doesn't hurt anybody ;) )

What i'm saying is a really good example of what you can do if you'll simply stay positive and try to solve the problems, by just talking, instead of ruling the forum with an iron hand and a banhammer (and then people are salty about that, they get banned too and on the end, forum is kinda dead). So even if someone is acting like an asshole, try to stay positive, after all, everyone is a human here (i hope so at least... I'm pretty sure StorymasterQ is some kind of an alien or part of illuminati, he is all over this place and Q stands for Quote, most people quote him, it's a true mystery, people, no joke...), we all have worse and better days, all what we need to do to make world a better place is reach out to people, help them even if they don't want your help, talk about problems instead of making even more of them. From time to time there will be someone whose only goal is to troll and make people mad, but it's not that hard to distinguish such people from people who are generally nice but they just have a worse day.

And if someone is simply too aggressive in controversial discussions, better talk with them about that, say "hey, dude, even if we don't agree with each other, that doesn't mean we can't be friendly" or something like this instead of throwing your two cents in whole discussion and arguing about him arguing. Tho, that being said, in practice, i'm not that wise and friendly when it comes to such conversations, but i still have time to learn how to control my emotions, so well, it doesn't matter if we fail, but it does matter if we try.

Seeing "You're banned: Cool down" have rather opposite effect, i would say, and after all, being a moderator isn't about banning people because they broke the rules, but about making forum a better place, place which people want to visit really often.

Have a good day, and if you've read all my bullshit, then i'm really proud of you! :D

Peace! (fun fact "peace" and "room" is a one and that same word in Polish)

2. Wait! It's not the end! You must actually know about what i'm talking about.
3. Enjoy.

I came back from long vacation from Rimworld and i'm unhappy with new toolbar.

Is there any way to change it? Even through modding?

See "Pale Blue Dot" By Carl Sagan here

This is a version with HD pictures, because original pictures was low quality (the images are from 1990 year and some people don't watch videos if they aren't at least 720p. Ahh... That generation ;d). But because autor removed original image taked by a sond Voyager 1 i will put it here:

What do you guys think about it? Also, remember that his speech was made in 1990-1992 (i can't find exact date, but i know when sond made pictures) - in that year people on Mars was just Sci-Fi :)

Also, he made a book about it, so check it out if you want - i really need to read it someday.

Help / Question about <tags>
June 18, 2015, 10:14:12 AM
In Apparello mod (in ThingDef) i found this:

      <tags>
        <li>SetTalker</li>
      </tags>

But i not found anything that can use this tag. I even used Grep for this and i serched in Core files (ps. Apparello don't have DLL's files).

My question is, what this tag do or what it can do when there is no files using this tag (or i'm blind and i can't find them)?
